As a teenager in the early 80's I sat in the cockpit of a Brymon Dash 7 from Plymouth to Heathrow via Newquay. Such a privilege and it sparked a lifelong love of aviation. Such a shame that kids today can't hitch a ride in the jump-seat and have the same experience.

First scene is 'Man Smoking and checking in'. 😂😂 Bit like Airplane the Movie. It made me chuckle.

It’s a disgrace. It was a bustling city airport with some great services. Quite an achievement for a city the size of Plymouth.

WHY!? Iwould have thought that Plymouth flights esp now from LCY (City) would have thrived!

Too quiet to make any money. Running an airport is an expensive business.

What a loss the closure of Plymouth Airport was to the area. Would never have been a big airport but was well suited to regional flights.

Brymon airways was formed in the early 70s by a journalist called Bill Bryce and the former McLaren and Ferrari F1 driver Chris Amon, hence the name Brymon.

The narrator stated the 'little' Twin Otter flies at only 2,000 feet implied its service ceiling. Wwhat was meant was 2,000 feet was the usual altitude for that particular route. Although unpressurised, the DHC-6 Twin Otter has a service ceiling of 25,000 feet.

😂The airport pretty much looks the same today. Old and antiquated. The board is digital and airlines materials & staff are new though. 😂

Ah the airlines of the 80s and even 90s were so sophisticated and classy. Food was served on plane regardless of the duration. The service was excellent. Now everything's so disgusting and extremely busy.

This looks wonderful. Take me back to the 80s .... and Plymouth to Aberdeen is pretty much unheard of now. Does anyone know what became of Brymon?

Merged into the regional part of British Airways and then later sold on to Flybe who went bust a couple of years ago.

Sadly. Regional airlines everywhere in the 'Western Would' are suffering the same fate. Aircraft smaller than A320's & B737's just don't make money. Thus 'regional airlines are in a global bind. Airliner development of smaller types is a 'no win' affair. Where they do fly smaller to the regions, cost price mechanisms measure price per nautical mile versus bums on seats. Where you have a local service, only the rich &/or business types can afford the cost. The answer is not obvious & it may be thus till mid century. So sad. But true.
