Brutal Weather Mountain Camping on Glyder Fawr | Gale Force Wind, Heavy Rain & Hail! MSR Hubba NX
I made my way up the Devils Kitchen from Llyn Idwal in beautiful weather, although there had been so much rain in the days before that the route had turned into mini waterfalls in places! This route up is a really fun scramble, but the slipperiness made it precarious
I made camp up at 700m on Glyder Fawr, close to Llyn y Cwn. I saw the stars & milky way before the weather turned. The winds actually got over 60mph gale-force gusts, although I didn’t know this at the time. I was sheltered by the rock buttress behind my tent at camp, but you can see how my tent still takes a battering. Without the shelter of the rock buttress it would have been pretty hairy indeed and may have been a pole-breaker
The next morning I made my way up to the 1000m summit in the crazy wind, rain & hail. The last 300m is a gentle ascent so there's nothing to get blown off of. Unsurprisingly I had the mountain to myself and didn’t see another person until I’d descended back down to Llyn Idwal. The weather continued to worsen as I made my way back to my car
Apart from the unfortunate wrecking of my filming gear again, I loved this lil trip and I’m super excited for more wintery weather & scenery :D

Whenever I feel negative and gloomy I watch one of Claire's vids to snap me out of it. Her positiveness and optimism are an inspiration.

I love watching Claire’s videos when it’s too hot to do anything. Adventures by proxy 😊

I agree it has personality and real. Unlike ame in a van that relies on her charm and glamour to gain views as much as she's lovely it gets but samey and not real id imagine her in air b and bs the rest of time not filming
Outward happiness is always a sign of internal anguish... I see you...... I can relate!

great shots awesome location good viewing
My god that's some serious guts and tenacity there Claire. Shame about the lost footage but you've still crafted a beautifull video out of what you still captured, thoroughly enjoyable!
Well done Claire for achieving the summit in atrocious weather. Was worried about you descending on those slippery rocks, especially holding a camera in your hand. Don’t worry about getting footage, Safety first yeah? Much love

Heyy thanks :) anything sketchy is filmed on the go pro, which is hands free attached to my rucksack, no need to worry about me :)
Sometimes, when I watch your videos, I have to remember to breathe!
Breath of fresh air, what a precious soul you are Claire.
Why would two people give this inspirational video the thumbs down, strange... Keep 'em coming WILDBEARE..

Probably because of jeaulosy pal.
Great video. I love laying in a tent, listening to the rain.
Hello. I find it fantastic when a woman is traveling alone. More courage than many a man
I really envy you , you live life close to nature and the elements , I really think you have your priorites right with your lifestyle choices well done .
This woman is amazing. She's like Laura Croft.
I'm so proud of you for making this video you are so brave
Claire, you are amazing.
Her pronunciation of the Welsh mountains always makes me smile ☺...She pronounced Glyder as Glidder...pronounce it Gludder..also Fach as Fack..pronounce the F like V and the CH as in Loch (Ness)..Tryfan as Truvan..Despite that I still think she's awesome 👍 👌 😁 ❤🌳🌲🔥🗡️xxx
Your tenacity is infectious, that weather would have had most of us calling for back up and you even manage to get those class night photo's.

Aw thanks, I enjoy a bit of bad weather, bad visibility puts me on edge more than wind & rain. I was sooo glad to get those night sky photos! I lost the evening camera footage when it broke but it recorded the star images 😍 thanks for watching :)
You are an amazing inspiration to me, an incredible happy joyous human, we could all learn a hell of a lot about how to keep smiling through this challenging thing called life. I wish you nothing but happiness. Thank you so much for these wonderful dream like vids, love the music too. Bye. Si, in Bristol x Aloha
Maybe that's a silly thought, but it was a good way for a camera to go. It helped you capture a ton of beautiful shots and didn't rot away on some shelve. I'd choose that! And this last shot? That so poetic.
Lovely video - again. So glad you have got yourself a Garmin Inreach!
You're beautiful and crazy creature, Claire! I really enjoyed this video 😊
Great scenery and camera work , thank you .
such a nice place, and so much water! lovely
Those photographs were spectacular
What fun, except for the camera. Enjoy your videos. The beauty of the scenery and you make it fun to watch.
Greetings from USA. Just found your channel. Your videos and story telling are excellent and fun to watch! Cheers.
i think you may be some sort of rain goddess, jeepers the weather you go camping in!
You certainly have balls climbing up that slippery slope.. you have earned my utmost respect. You are one amazing lady.

I don't think it's slippery there tbh, not sure why she's going up the waterfall parts which are dangerous when there's no need.
Wow again! Great images! The stars!!!!!
Fantastic video again Claire... Isn't it beautiful 🙏🤍
As much as I love watching your video's you absolutely scare me to death climbing and scrambling alone in the mountains. Please be careful
What amazing views I really enjoy watching your videos !
Your one crazy lady and I for one ….am totally jealous I’m unable to do it, Love watching keep them coming.
👏 well done and the footage amazing ...that was wild !
Excellent 👌
Croeso i Gymru! Welcome to Wales, but maybe next time show some extraordinary weather!!! LOL!! Love your vids,Den, Llangyfelach (just down the road from the 'Glyders'). X
You are very brave, this was the most exciting video!
Happy Anniversary, keep doing what you love joe
i love to join with your adventure and camping!!!
Such gorgeous terrain!
It’s such fun to watch your evolution into quite the respectable hillwalker. I can’t imagine why you had the mountain to yourself in hail, gale-force winds, and rain. 😜 Love the thrilled smiles, though, as you pressed on and endured!

Ahh thanks :D I have loads of fun up there hehe. First summit with no one else present this one I think! Yep I can't think why😄 Thank you for watching, and have a lovely eve :) Claire
That was radical !!!😳 But look like fun !!!
Great video, just wanted to add for the benefit of anyone wanting to follow in your footsteps that Llyn Idwal itself is an SSSI so wild camping anywhere near the lake is strictly prohibited under any circumstances, you were fine and far enough away, but just for anyone else looking into camping in that area. I'm a local wild camper and fell runner, you get used to the slippery rocks and high winds over time, but for short trips like this over that terrain you'd find you have much more grip with a pair of fell running shoes, or boots-wise I find something like the Inov8 Roclite 286's give you loads more grip and confidence than traditional style boots.
Claire you are a very brave girl and a great watch. 👍
When I go to summits like this, and I know I'll return the same way, I drop the back pack, and pick it up later. And with your orange cower, it should be easy to find it, if it is a monotonous terrain. And in winds, it really helps to get the weight balance down. But what a great spot and beautiful area. And no people around. That is the good thing about hiking out of the season.
Wow so beautiful and relaxing
You have nerves of steel. I would be quite happy looking at that summit from below..
Good to see the sense of adventure still lives worldwide, you definitely are brave for being in those windy conditions with very little cover. And your nightsky photos are fantastic! Thanks for sharing..
Just...amazing!!!🖤🏔🗻😊
I just can't stop watching your video adventures ❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊😊 thank you so much from a Kiwi down under
You all ways have the most fantastic views. View with the stars was amazing.
Young lady is always smiling x
well done claire top video as allways happy you got back safe and sound blessings davey
No way, I camped in that exact spot with my friend in November hahaha love the vids
Yes, had such in Western Nevada mountains. Halted amid start of heavy rain. Thought I was lucky to tent atop soft soil. Until those ants came up from below and attacked me. Ran naked into the cold wet weather wiping off what pained me. Darting in again to get my zipped-shut pack. To don a rainsuit. Did exercises to stay warm until dawn's light let me rid my gear of insects. Then, a mid-day nap, when the little horrors were elsewhere.
The view at 3:03! Stunning!
Hello, the weather is always bad in your country, but it is what a country, the hike is magnificent, you make me dream. Thank you for more. Bonjour , il fait toujours mauvais dans ton pays , mais c'est quel pays , la randonnée est magnifique tu me fait rêver.Merci a plus.
More fun in very wet and windy conditions. Its great to be at one with nature and relying on one's own self reliance. So peacefull your videos .Great.Thankyou.
I could never do this but glad I found your Chanel you are very brave but obviously very experienced how do you make it seem so effortless Regards Haley
Another beautiful outing stay safe have fun.
You are braver than me, in that type of conditions. I applaud you.

Wow! That must be your Wildest video yet! Take care. You should have some company on some of these Epic adventures!
Holy Moley! What a trooper! Thanks for braving the weather and terrain to bring us some breathtaking views! The colors were amazing and the night sky with Milky Way divine! Wow.
Hi Claire, steep climb up Devils kitchen and up, slippery when wet, 🤣opens up on to Y Garn to the right and Glyder fawr to the left, castell y gwynt ( makes whistling noises on a windy day) and on towards Glyder fach, then keep going to the scree path down to Tryfan, love it up there, hope you enjoyed it, one of my fav climbs 🤗🤗🤗♥️👍🏽
Great video Claire. A great example of how beautiful and brutal the Welsh wilderness is! I attempted a walk around the Great Orme in Llandudno a few years back. A easy walk along tarmac of 6 miles, until the wind whipped up to near 80mph gusts which nearly put me over the wall between me and a drop into the Irish sea!
Wow! That was amazing, such beautiful pics.

Amazing . The scenery's not bad either . ha.ha .
That looked gorgeous even in that weather. You can see how people get into trouble on the mountains when the weather turns like that, glad you survived intact! Great video!

Thanks Martyn :) yeh absolutely, it's nice to have all the overnight stuff, even though it's a lot heavier of course but there's very little I couldn't survive up there with it
You are so brave to keep pushing yourself. Amazing views though!!
Thanks for the upload👍that was wild,,
Keep safe always Claire 😊
The glyders were the same twelve years ago, I need to get back after seeing your videos, the weather is so much better than the pennines 😂😂, a little tip, carry some form of cordage, I use old faithful 550 para cord, £15 for 30 metres, that's 550 pounds breaking strain, you can lower your kit instead of carrying it down dodgy slopes, just a tip from an old guy who was once like you, ❤❤. Stay safe out there Claire. Nige 👍👍☕☕
Hi Claire. There is a far less challenging route up through devils kitchen. That looked proper sketchy. Very brave to do that with a pack on. Was up there a few weeks back with poor conditions, and it's no joke. That said, i i still loved it. Ogwen valley is my happy place

Heyy Rich, this is the route up Devils Kitchen, I was using map compass and following the route along on view ranger too. I think maybe because there's so much water at the moment, it looks different because a lot of the 'path' is running water. Glad you like it, it's a beautiful place isn't it. Stunning here in the snow ❄
@dylanwynroberts
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Claire - There is an easier route up - if you look on the OS map it is the other path shown - you cross a wall/stile on the way up and won’t encounter so much water / sketchyness as you did. The path is clearly shown on strava. 👍
@WildBeare
2 жыл бұрын
@@dylanwynroberts ahh the other path that goes up and around the top rather than straight up to devils kitchen? I like the scrambling to be fair, chose to do this one :) although the rocks are slippery as hell at the moment
Another fantastic video Lady....stay lucky
WOW. Must admit my heart stopped when your rucksack went for a trip! Might I suggest a short length or rope for your inventory with a carabiner on the end. Tie it off and lower away, that way you'll get to keep it. Binge watching your videos right now and love your positivity. Might I also suggest a waterproof cover for your camera? Maybe also an apple tag tracker for your electronics when your not using it. That way if it falls out you might be able to track its location? Keep staying positive, your an inspiration!!👍
Great adventure by a great adventurer!
That orange rucksack cover is great. You are all but invisible without it !
New Sub here. Enjoying the ambience of your camps. Cheers, Tony
Highest winds I was in was in a storm with 90mph forcast winds. The tent got ripped out of the ground due to my mistake; grabbed a guyline as it took off, getting dragged along the ground till the gust died and my tent which had become a kite came back to ground. On my knees whilst packing the tent away, would get blow over by the gusts. Whilst making my escape would get on the ground when I heard a gust coming as too strong. Eventually whilst using gorse bushes as cover, the wind came under the bushes and took my legs out from under me making me land on my bum. I had gone up for the storm , returned with a big smile on my face. The tent, a hilleberg Akto suffered no damage other than a bent pole.
Wow. Hats off to you Claire, you're tenacious! Sorry about your camera. That sucks.
That was a adventure for sure well done.
Loving your videos. Live not far from these places often go to dinorwic cave camping or around llanberis Snowdon betws y coed chapel curig etc etc. Got to love ❤️ north Wales looks like your having a great time. Keep on enjoying it, it's what the outdoors was made for.
Wow, brave girl 🙌
You are good at managing bad weather.
Your courage is admirable
Very sound advice about the wind Claire. I had to bail at the foot of Bristly Ridge when I first attempted the Glyders, as you couldn't stand up braced with two trekking poles, one second it's relatively calm and in a matter of seconds it just rushes in up the valley from nowhere. At least you didn't face plant and snap a trekking pole downclimbing the Devils Kitchen like me, just another Camera this time!! The conclusion I've come to is, if you are the only one out and about the weather is trying to tell you something, well done though for getting up there and back safely and for sharing your adventure.
You literally are the absolute dream 😍
Glad u got down safely. I was chewing my nails. 😂
Well that was adventurous , was a bit affraid for you for a second ! 😳
Glad you are okay!!!!
Fab video Great conditions to test you and your kit Enjoyed it
Depuis la France. Un grand merci pour vos superbes vidéos. C'est toujours un grand plaisir de les visionner. Bravo.
Great adventure filming really great quality!
OMG I didn't think that someone could be crazy, courageous, entertaining and beautiful in equal measures until I started watching your videos Claire. I love your videos and you are a truly amazing lady and outdoors adventurer!
wow Claire that looked well scary with the wind but what a Awesome adventure you had there and can't wait to see your next adventure Claire Lovely❤👍👌🙂❤
A younger me, would have lived this life.
Lady your amazing. We have hurricanes in Florida but we usually stay inside and have a few pints. We don't climb mountains. Wait, we don't have mountains in Florida. They must have all blown down. Anyway, just another epic adventure for Claire. Hugs from Florida! 🌹
When my world gets crazy, I watch one of your videos. Thank you for all your cuteness and journeys !!
Weather's not looking great understatement of the vid : ) beautiful night sky shots. I bet you felt so alive when you got back down
