Ive been running your trailmaster sport 27t for about two years run it in mud and water all the time best i do to it is try n run through a "clean" mudpudle and its still going strong

I'm drawn to creeks like flies to manure so for my SCX10ii RBK I bought the Trailmaster Sport solely on your recommendation--no explanation, just trusted your judgment. Now I know why it continues to work so great. Keep up the awesome service you provide to the hobby community. Cheers and thanks.

John keep up the good work with the video's. I'm running a Holmes sbm and mamba max pro esc. In my k10 vattera. The motor and esc. Are water proof but i only run in shallow water never above the axles.

Thanks, plastidip on sensor harness and all connections does a good job and stays in place for quite some time before peeling away and at the same time, exacto knife or even a steel pick will quite easily remove that stuff for maintenance or diagnosis inspection.

Ok I use to race back when the jrx2 first came out donuts been a few years sun I’ve raced. So I’m getting back it into it again but I’m playing catch up on technology saw your video on brushes vs brushless motors very helpful. And I’ve seen vids on batteries. But why did they stop running nicad batteries and can you use nicads in a rig that uses Lipo batteries

If you try and shoot a gun underwater it will blow up. lol.

Do you use water proof synthetic grease on the bearings? There are many brands of marine grease that work well in water. Also wouldn't you just change the battery and load up your motor so it gets how and evaporate all the water then clean the motor with rubbing alcohol and regrease ?

I have run my R/C trucks in salt water. Ocean water is very destructive to almost everything in your R/C truck. I use the cheap Tamiya Mabauchi non-rebuildable brushed motors. I can usually get several runs out of them before they die. Ocean water also destroys all the metal parts in my R/C truck too. I spray WD-40 in my motor and on all the metal parts. This seems to slow down the damage done by salt water. I will do a complete tear down of my truck. I clean and re-lubricate my motor and all the metal parts. I also lubricate the bearings too. This is a lot of work but necessary if you want to keep your R/C truck going. Motor spray can also be used to clean parts too.

What if you run in dust? Like sand? What would you recommend?

I bought my tamiya CR-01 kit 9 years ago. Put it together and never ever did any maintenance on it. It is not used very often but alwaus take ot with me every year on wimtersports holidays, summer holidays and just wil drive it now and then in the house or the garden. Drive it in water with the transmission and motor totally submerged. also drive it in loose sand and mud. But never let mud go up the motor or gearbox. after the drive I just make sure there is no mud left that will keep the metal moist. Just hose the wheels and axles. But it is still going strong. Only the motor barrel bend lips get light rusty and nothing more. To be honest, the rigg starts to ride a little louder than ot used to when it was new. But again. never ever did any maintenance on it. So I think just try to not get mid in it bexause that will damage ot more easy. Just water in my case not so much

I got a Leopard 4082 1600kv motor wet in salt water, lubricate the bearings but I don't know if I can pour 656 or oil into it through the grids that you see, what advice do you give me?

What is the best ‘motor for running in water?

I tried hooking a tater up to my rc. It would do anything! What am I doing wrong?

Super old video obviously, but I have had extremely good luck running my brushed motors in the mud and dirty water. It seems that the trick isn't keeping the water out it is making sure it can get out once it is in. I had tried a brushless system in my trx4 because "it would last so much longer" I was told repeatedly. Well it didn't I found that I had a false sense of security since it was "sealed" well just like you said the water found it's way in and then it couldn't get out. I am awful with maintenance on my vehicles, I tend to wait until a can't stand the squealing and squeaking and do a mass maintenance all at once. My current motor is about a year old I have never pulled it out, never oiled it, never done anything for it and it hasn't died yet. It finds water or mud nearly every outing and several times it has been stuck rusted where I parked it. I am a holmes believer, I appreciate you making a motor that has withstood unimaginable abuse that it was never intended to endure. Did I mention I bought it used?

What if we open the sensores motor and spray plastidip in the sensor port. You have any experience with that?

What about using a r/c boat with a brushed motor in saltwater? is there a way to clean it out after the run? I'm not saying the motor will get super wet, but it could get drops of saltwater into it. Is there a way to clean it nice and good? or is it doomed?

Thanks for all the good info and I guess I'll be getting a couple inexpensive throw away motors. What do you think about WD-40 after cleaning the mud and grit out? It will displace any water and stop rust in the short term.

I have a Bomber that I Iove to go fast with but want to get better at crawling so I put a two speed transmission in it. I have two spur gears and a handful of pinions to play with so which Trailmaster motor would you recommend? It is a heavy beast. I have a Hobbywing brushless setup right now but we get so much rain I think I'll use it in something else.

2700 TrailMaster Pro is a good all around choice for brushless. 21t TrailMaster Sport is great for brushed.

Are brushless motor on rc car waterproof?

I will try to make this short, but this issue needs some explanation, I buy the low end vehicles, and rebuild them for durability, and hopefully more speed. I've purchased a couple of $20 ESCs for two current projects. 1/12 Virhuck L01, and WLToys A979B. The issue is with swapping out the electronics. I bought receivers, Servos, ESCs, and Motors. The A979B was already fitted for a 540 motor, so I bought a 540 4300kv motor, and 60 amp ESC. For the Virhuck I bought a 2845 5900KV motor and the same 60amp ESC. Both setups have the same issue. When I pull the trigger from a dead stop, they stutter and jerk for a couple of seconds before taking off. I've switched every component including Transmitters and it is definitely the ESCs. Yeah they're cheap, but I'm turning 70 in a few months, and only run for fun in the back yard, or open areas (empty parking lots, etc) So my quetion is, what ESC do I need to look for that will stop the motors from stuttering on takeoff. I pulled an older ESC off one of my other trucks, and there's no stutter at all. That esc is also a no name, that I'm pretty sure i paid about $20 for, There's no visible difference, and I've run the cars for as much as ten minutes and nothing heats up. Help Me Please - Mr. Holmes.

Castle and Tekin are the best ones for launch, but being USA manufatured will be 5 to 10x the cost. Probably not worth it for your use, just roll into your throttle a little slower and deal with the cogging.

How will your outrunners fair when submerged? Also very curious about when we might see a full sized Crawlmaster ESC and if it have the ability to run outrunners quietly.

I was curious if you had any tips re: your revolver motors? I'm super keen to replace the traxxas 21T in my truck with a SW4 and a revolver but I was curious about taking care of the Revolver motors? I have to admit with the 21t traxxas motors being 20 bucks a piece I typically just douse them in wd40 after a water run. from what I can see it doesn't look like the revolver motors are sealed?

They are pretty easy to clean out. WD-40 would be fine. Just be sure to keep the bearings lubed!

So you started getting into it and then you got interrupted by the tator. I have a right that's fully waterproofed and did a lot of water crawling, not when I got to crawl with it, it kills batteries super fast. Do you think that's because of gunky brush arching?

TrailMaster Sport 21t 550 for a stock replacement. Puller Pro 540 2200kv with BLE or Mamba X ESC for sensored brushless upgrade. Or Revolver 540 1800kv and sidewinder 4 for lower cost sensorless brushless.

Can chop out std bearings and e clip for sealed stainless steel replacements

man see i had brushed motor its worked in rain, and it was fine after 3 days i flip it then its worked but with time slower and slower until it stop work its meagre 500ohm and its dc motor, when i connected it to powersupply power truned of because of overcurrent is it mean that if i dry the motor it can come back to live or i lost it?

Comm is probably shot, maybe brushes too short

I noticed that many modern brushless motor leads come out the motor with a rubber boot, leaving no metal exposed. Other older motors have open connectors or tabs to solder wires onto. Is the completely sealed booted a better option for moisture or does it not matter, since you mentioned moisture being drawn in jackets?

really doesnt matter either way. its cheaper to pull the wires out of a boot. Its more expensive to have a nice solder tab

What about your Revolver Outrunner motors? can those be run under water and/or mud?

Yes, but mud can be pretty rough on them. water, no problem. Just dry and relube so it doesn't rust

Vasaline works good also (cheaper longer lasting )

We had quite the difficult time making them sensored and reliable. The new firmware on the TrailMaster BLE and the mamba X controllers have much better sensorless control though, so now it is possible to run them sensorless and still have great crawling ability!

Hi john , I have a few 1/16 scale rigs , but have been out of the hobby for years . I want to know your recommendation for an upgrading Motors an esc's for my Mn 90 land rover and others Thinking like 380 motor with good range of lipo battery voltages. Love the crawler scale driving with trails , and abilities to get totally wet n muddy .. Now I know you have the the Homes Crawlmater pro , do you have anything with outstanding performance like the Crawlmaster in a 380 ... looking for your thoughts and recommendations for this and esc.. Why not a realy waterproof brushed motor (completed sealed) for crawlers? Even water wear out brushes and muddy water wear them out quick.I think heat is no problem under water.

Water still seeps in around the bearings. Hobbywing did a pretty good job on the axe and fusion for water tightness but they still come up rusted after about a year of water use. I am working to make some more resilient motor housings, but long term it will still require occasional cleaning. There is no such thing as waterproof motors. They actually survive better in clean water when open frame. Mud just kills everything in time.

its quite easy to waterproof motors........ i have an outrunner motor, and its nearly impossible to waterproof it since the outside turns. and so far, there are NO waterproof outrunner motors.

Clean it after every run who has that kind of time I crawl through mud and water them place my car on the shelf till Iam ready to run through mud and water again and I haven't had a problem . But some people need constant KZread content .

I don't know why, but you remind me of Robert Downey Jr when he was playing Tony Stark for some reason, only you know about the wonders of clean taters, dielectric grease and lube.

Tater I never thought I'd laugh that hard to a motor video.

i know what im about to say is a big NO NO for some people ... but a plastidip bath will solve most if not all problems with water... servos and ESC included to... mud on the rigg not in the tater

plastidip doesn't adhere to the components. Part of the "removable" aspect of it. Get one hairline crack and that water will surround the entire object inside the dip job. We have seen way too many failures come through because of plastidip.

@@HolmesHobbies I've used Corrosion X spray/dip to waterproof RC and other electronics and I've never had a problem. The hard part is proper disassembly to get adequate coverage.
