What an excellent match. Windham takes a real beating, but reminded me again how he deserved an NWA championship run sometime between 85 and 87. Brody’s one arm slam and delayed pile driver were awesome.

In '85, Brody rode his Harley up to a bar in Tampa called Tattle Tales with a couple other bikers .. Brody was kind of quiet, but you knew, don't even think about fucking with him .. and there were some tough hombres in there for real!

Both veterans got treated like they WERE rookies, though. Hansen and Brody ate them alive, barely giving poor Windham or Fuller the opportunity for any sustained offense. The heroes got only the briefest hope spots like a single move-reversal or a few punches. At times, the match felt like an extended squash. The physical execution of the moves was all great, but I think H&B's unwillingness to bother selling made the match feel less competitive and less interesting. Especially considering how the opponents are more than evenly matched in size, it made no sense for these other giants to be so easily dominated.

The Japanese loved American wrestling, very rare to see Windham take a pounding like this, i mean he's 6'5 260lbs and Brody tosses him around like a rag doll, wish he would have taken a run at the belt in the late 80s early 90s but I've heard he didn't want the responsibility that came with it, regardless, one of the best technical wrestlers EVER to step in the ring.

Many Japanese pro-wresling fans are ready to give their biggest respect to foreign wrestlers, only if they have fought well in Japan, especially against Japanese wrestlers. It wouldn't matter much to the fans whether if they were popular in the US or not. Hansen and Brody are among the ones with a perfect CV, alongside Abdullah the Butcher, Tiger Jeet Singh, Dick Murdoch, Ric Flair, Big Van Vader, Andre the Giant, The Road Warriors, the Funks Brothers and many others.

They were good friends and Ron and Stan remain good friends to this day. Ron has had Stan on his paid content portion of the Studcast, great stuff. I always appreciated the way Ron worked in the ring, stiff as hell but could take it to the mat hold for hold with the best of them. He could work "small" if need be, or with the big guys, like himself. Of course the other 3 go without saying as well, 4 great ones right here in one match

i was outside the tv studio (wbir) here in Knoxville one saturday morning and watched a Corvette pull up. wondering who it was (and if we could get autographs) we walked closer and watched Ron Fuller unfold out of it. he could barely get out. funny stuff.

Windham and Fuller looked like jobbers here. Windham bumped and sold like a champ. With the exception of the the Undertaker, I hate guys who don't sell. I mean I know Brody and Hansen were mainstays at this point while the other two were just passing through, but come on

@@shaolin1derpalm they did. Now I get it that it was part of a tournament which those matches usually suck because they're rushing to fit everything in anyway, but I'm sure that's not the reason why there was no fire from the babyfaces here. Just Brody and Hansen being...well Brody and Hansen. They did the same thing to Steamboat and Youngblood.
