Bruce Springsteen - Paradise live

Музыка

Paradise
Where the river runs black
I take the schoolbooks from your pack
Plastics, wire and your kiss
The breath of eternity on your lips
In the crowded marketplace
I drift from face to face
I hold my breath and close my eyes
I hold my breath and close my eyes
And I wait for paradise
And I wait for paradise
The virginia hills have gone to brown
Another day another sun going down
I visit you in another dream
I visit you in another dream
I reach and feel your hair
Your smell lingers in the air
I brush your cheek with my fingertips
I taste the void upon your lips
And I wait for paradise
And I wait for paradise
I search for you on the other side
Where the river runs clean and wide
Up to my heart the waters rise
Up to my heart the waters rise
I sink `neath the water cool and clear
Drifting down, I disappear
I see you on the other side
I search for the peace in your eyes
But theyre as empty as paradise
Theyre as empty as paradise
I break above the waves
I feel the sun upon my face

I had my eyes closed for the entire video, and let the words create a visual for me, this is so beautiful yet all too heartbreaking. There ain't going to be another Bruce, ever.

I thought it was about the surviving family members of the people that died. How it must have been for them to have to deal with the grief of losing their loved ones in such a tragic and senseless way :( Maybe they were thinking of killing themselves to stop hurting so much from their loss and at the last minute decided to live. :( Either way it is a VERY moving song! Thanks Bruce for writing it and thanks MatMc001 for posting it!!

The first thought that comes to mind is haunting. The other comments confirmed the same feeling. Bruce is an exceptional talent and has/ had a fantastic band. I have never seen a live concert that delivers what he does. OK Better Midler does too . She puts on a Fantastic show. Beautiful ! Springsteens album Nebraska got planned in Rolling Stone. I think it was superb. My only slight dissapointment in albums was Born in the U.S.A. It sounded like a forced and cranked commercial job under the whip of contract. It shows. Not saying that it was bad album, it just seemed that he was creating through a contrational noose. I found it interesting that it was one of his most commercially successful albums. Go figure.

The winter sun shot thru the black trees I told myself it was all something in her But as we drove I knew it was something in me Something that had been comin' for a long time And something that was here with me now On highway 29 The road was filled with broken glass and gasoline She wasn't sayin' nothin', it was just a dream The wind was coming silent thru the windshield All I could see was snow, sky and pines I closed my eyes and I was runnin' I was runnin' then I was flyin'

A female suicide bomber... walking through the crowded market, eyes drifting from face to face... closing her eyes, she puts her finger to the trigger and waits for Paradise... The Virginia hill have gone to brown... United Airlines flight 93 and all aboard.. bot now all that's left is their memory, as in a dream... But we do not drown in our sorrow; we continue on. Probably the most poignant song ever written. God, it makes me cry every single time. :'(

I don't know the official reason... The Rising album is centered around Springsteen's reflections on the September 11, 2001 attacks. While most of the songs were written after September 11, 2001, a few of them pre-date the attacks.

I know we all have different perpestives, but when I hear this line it reminds me of a young girls first kiss, and the line plastic and wire make me think he is singing about her braces, maybe I'm too naive, I can see where folks think the worst case scenario but you know opinions are... opinions, my compainion native NYer's ( not me) thinks that's all it is.

I could be totally wrong about how I interpreted this song. When you listen to it...it just seems like someone is planning on ending their lives and then decides against it. Although with the other people's comments...it makes you see a different view and think that yes it could have been about a suicide bomber. I just know that to me it is a very thought provoking/moving song.

@SuzzyStohelit Hi Suzzy, I agree with you although I never experienced any circumstance like that... and I think this song is meant to give you chills, I love the melody but it makes me uneasy. I think it's meant to thrill people and make them doubt absolutely every belief they might have in this religious paradise some people are ready to kill or die for. I had to read many comments in order to start to understand what it's about and all I'm sure about is that it's intended to make us think.

You are very perceptive, Yes, it could have happened just as you write, the loss and sudden death of a loved one can push people over the top, I know 9/11 was hell on earth. Words can save lives, and you have a way with them.. Peace...

I was there.. and it was hell on earth ! .I am most likely in denial about this song, because I don't understand how he can romanticize an act that has caused me and so many others so much pain, I left the city only to.... Someone explain that...and please I adore Bruce but this gives me chills
