"Yo Vince!" "Hey Random Dudes from Creative. How goes it?" "We want you to fire Stacy Carter." "Oh really? Is she refusing to do something?" "Nah, she's just generally a pain in the butt -nothing specific." "Well, say no more. I'll fire her immediately. Even though she's in the middle of an angle that will have to be cut short with no explanation. Also, firing her with no clear reason will probably make her husband, one of our two main commentators, quit before we can establish a replacement. But that's OK. Never let it be said that Vince McMahon let making good business decisions get in the way of being the bitch of Random Guys from Creative." Something about this doesn't ring true.

Bruce's story doesn't line up exactly to JRs. I believe JR personally.
@TheJohnnyCotts

According to Jim Ross, Kitty was more "business savvy" than "difficult to work with". He said she would question storylines, as to why she (her character, that is) would do something and how it would benefit her. One of the creative team got fed up with her asking questions and went to Vince, who fired her. JR wasn't there when it happened, as he has said if he was, he could have tried to smooth it over or just send her home for a few weeks until everything had cooled down.
I think The Kat was the first woman I ever found sexually attractive, although I was too young to process, understand or act upon those feelings.

I mean... what dude would sit there and keep working while your wife gets fired? That's a no-win scenario for him. He stays there, she never forgives him, it eats away at her until she leaves him. He quits for solidarity, he loses his income, and no guarantee she'll even appreciate what he's done for her. Has there EVER been a good, happy ending type story when 2 married people work together? I guess the bottom line, the takeaway from all this is, do not work with your wife. Period. Also, if I was Lawler I'd absolutely think they wanted to get rid of me, and this was their way of making me quit. Even if I stayed, I'd never be able to trust them again.

Owen Hart was forced to do the Blue Blazer character again after he told Vince he didn't want to be involved in another angle that was thought up for him. And it's because of the Blue Blazer act that Owen ended up losing his life

Fair point. WWF/E is a strange beast in that they publicly say they will entertain your ideas for characters and they "encourage new wrestlers to be creative" and ultimately it's on them to get themselves over. But then they turn around and force you into a shitty gimmick and if you don't entertain it, you're gone. Only a few guys made it past that to become worthwhile.
@melissawright1979
3 жыл бұрын
@@velvetpilot2008 Oh yeah. At the end of the day WWF/E isn't just a business. . . It's sports SHOW business. It's just as cut throat as it is for, let's say, musicians, models, actors etc. You are there for your talent, but your talent is used to make money. If you don't generate enough revenue or do what you are told, they will kick you out and get someone younger, more attractive, more desperate and gullible to come in and replace you. It's as simple as that x

@@melissawright1979 They're hypocrites in a way and I'm sure it's worse now than when Owen wrestled there. Does the talent (not counting main eventers) even make enough money anymore? The PPV business is dead and WWE had to sell their network to Peacock. Which tells me it's no longer the money maker they thought it would be. Remember when the network started in 2014 and ex-wrestlers were on podcasts talking about "how do they get paid anymore if the network is sold at $9.99/mo?" What are ticket sales these days?! I know NOBODY watches RAW anymore. Sorry to go off topic but it sucks to see a business you loved as a kid go down the shitter. Edit: the way you framed your original question is poignant. Owen Hart, lose your job or lose your life. Dramatic I know but it's essentially the choice he had looking back and the guy was probably the greatest employee WWF had at that time outside of Austin and Undertaker.

Hey Conrad, let's get an episode on Rick The Model Martel or Bam Bam
And still the most obvious question isn't addressed; if they knew Lawler and how he'd react, and since he and JR were such good friends, etc, why didn't they simply call a meeting with both Lawler and Carter and address her behavior and give them a chance to fix the issue? It was done so swift and WWF wouldn't budge on their decision to let her go. If I had been Lawler I probably would've reacted the same way. And I love how Vince played coy and acted like he had no idea what happened or "why the decision was made", like it was too late. You're the F'in boss. You could've easily called an audible that made both sides happy. Seems like they wanted Lawler gone.

1) We always known Vince never lets sentimentality cloud his judgment when it comes to business decisions, so Jerry shouldn't be surprised with Vince's reaction. 2) This situation says a lot about the unknown consequences of "workplace" relationships(dating/married to someone working in the same company) and WWE is a probably a company, more than most, where such relationships should be avoided because its more likely to produce catastrophic results when those consequences appear.

Its only a theory, but it would explain the sudden dismissal!
There's rumours she was screwing around behind Jerry's back and management found out about it. I think they fired her knowing Jerry would quit but then would learn the truth for himself later and then want to return. Had they just told him the reason for it at the time he probably wouldn't have believed them, he was madly in love with her. Poor guy but glad the story ended happily in the end.

Omkar Kulkarni JR and Conrad did discuss on his podcast, and JR said he never got any complaints from anybody about The Kat. Vince McMahon told him he was getting a lot of complaints about The Kat, and he wanted JR to fire her. JR wanted everyone to sit down and discuss this, but Vince's mind was already made up.
Lawler to WCW. LOL he should have gone there to only then be employed by WWE anyways.

Something isn't adding up. I heard she had a three-way with Stephanie and Randy. But that's just rumor and innuendo.
The kat got nude on multiple PPV events and didn’t look like she was being forced to do something she didn’t want to. In light of that, I find it very difficult to believe that she was “kvetching” as Bruce puts it, about what they were asking her to do. The “office got mad because we went out to the playboy mansion without asking permission first” sounds like Vince McMahon level of “I own you!” petty

Finally someone who doesn’t speak ill of Stacy Carter
The Kat was so over at the time. I think popular enough to not fire her like that! I would say at this time she was one of the most popular divas. The topless flash, the bubble wrap bikini, managing Chyna etc. She was so over.
She didn't want to do something. Sounds like they wanted to put clothes on her and she wasn't having that.😁

Stacy Carter really shoulda had the opportunity to pose for Playboy.
Stacy “The Kat” Carter had a very different version of events when it comes to anyone claiming she was “difficult” creatively. Wish I could see The Kat and Bruce talk about it directly 1 on 1 🤔
The creative team who are non wrestlers fire a Diva for acting like a Diva in the middle of an angle that she is in and she is the wife of one of your best commentators? Weird and most likely a slimy Kevin Dunn decision.

i dont buy bruces story on this, its got all the buisness is buisness bullshit excuses attached to it they usually use when they dont want to real truth out there, hes trying to convince us that she was the only person on that roster calling time out on the creative team, and was the only one fired for it! nope sorry i know she wasnt exactly headlining but the vast majority of the roster at that time would have had a run in with creative especially as the company was soaring and everyone wanted a spot

corturia In 2001, Stone Cold Steve Austin could say no to stuff given to him by creative and get away with it, so could The Rock, HHH, The Undertaker and maybe Kurt Angle, and maybe Kane. The Kat was far down the totem pole to get away with pushing back on creative, I'm pretty sure she got into with Stephanie McMahon and that's what caused Vince to fire her.
Molly Holly and Lita were my favorite.

Chris Ross listen to Conrad read from Kings book about it. He only mentions it once and they don’t talk about it again, but listen for the mention of the playboy mansion visit. Vince long has a reputation of acting like he “owns” people while they work for him and I can see him getting very upset over a talent meeting with Hefner about posing for playboy without his prior knowledge
She was one of the sexiest ones there. She had this Bettie Paige thing going on

Did Lawler really have a WCW contract or was he bluffing?
@Andysnyc

It was standard practice at the time for people in the middle of contract negotiations to throw in a "oh the competition is offering me X, but if you give me Y, I'll sign" Regardless of whether they were talking to the competition or not.

Yes.
Sorry, Bruce's story does NOT hold up under the smallest bit of scrutiny.
Question... who ACTUALLY pulled the trigger on her firing? I get that Creative didn't like working with her anymore... but they can't fire someone in talent, can they? I'm just surprised I guess that not McMahon,.Ross, Pritchard, or Lawler had more pull in the company than some writers who no one ever remembers anymore
The wrestlers have ALWAYS been able to disagree with the writers and say I don't like this line. It only buries you if you name them and do it publicly... So something doesn't add up.
@Rjensen2

Lmao...that's ridiculous. Not even close to being true. 🤣
There seems to be a bit of a disconnect. While it sounds like she was fired because Kat was a pain in the @$$ for the writers' room to work with. Okay, so has anyone expressed this to Kat, telling her that the writers are finding her to be a massive pain to work with and giving her a chance to change her behavior? Then Jerry talks to Vince and says essentially that, Should someone have told us something was going on before it escalated to this level? Vince agrees, yes someone should have told you about this before it got to this level. And? What's done is done and it's too much of a pain to undo it? Had Kat been getting talked to and she wasn't telling Jerry? Was she manipulating him and telling a different story?! I mean I guess it could've gone down as has been explained here, but there seemed to have been some major leaps going on that took it from "Kat's being a pain for the writers to work with" to "fire Kat".

So Bruce “isn’t really clear on this” and “neither was Vince” okay people are lying about this… like this was supposed to be “the truth about this” and he legit says right after being asked to sum it up… “well I THINK it had more to do with…” just stop it Brucie boy
Seems messed up to not be able to put her input on her character. Should have at least took her sat her down and talk to her about it first and then if it continues then let her go.
Imo they did this because they wanted to take on Paul as a commentator for the ECW/WCW story and Tazz came apart of that too. It's too convenient for me.
That's some bulshit right there they didn't have the balls to tell her look this is what you do this is your skip do it, sure they would have, she probably thought that was her input her way of contributing to to how the match was going to go, it could very well be she didn't except the advance ,from the right person, course that speculation but the reason he gave is some b*******
Does Bruce always say "you and I" when "you and me" would be more correct because Vince insists that things are said a certain way?
JR the smiling assassin. The biggest snake in WWF but always managed to play out his innocence
I truly can see Vince firing them for going behind his back to Playboy, I mean, they lost out. Imagine, she was bigger than ever with the Right To Nudity, and playboy, she would've exploded. It saddens me to think of the what ifs...
Life lesson: Never marry a little girl
