The most beautiful and most exciting Porsche ever!!
I'm adding one more comment: this iconic car is not only looking great but the so famous air cooled flat 12's sound is magnificent and a memorable emotion. Thanks again to Bruce Canepa and his Team. And to Helmuth Bott, Hans Metzger who engineered the engine, based on the 908 flat 8 3liter. Let's not forget the late Ferdinand Piech at Porsche who headed the design and took the risk to build the requested 25 units of it, and John Wyer at Gulf Porsche Wyer Team in UK who definitely defined the highest standards of maintenance for this legendary car. And won many championships in 1970,71,72. Actually a total of 70 (78?) cars were built including Constructors, Interserie, Non Championship and Can Am championships; 73 victories in 3 years. Respect to all of you today and to all of yesteryears, from my deepest heart.

Also Piech said that the driver who better understood the 917 was the Mexican Pedro Rodríguez

Can you imagine seeing this on the street! This is so freaking cool!

I live on that street and see it and others quite often… sometimes i here them in the middle of the night getting wound out… it never gets old.
The toys... The sound, design profile and ultimately, the je ne sais quoi of owning a 917. And driving it! Thanks, man.
Who else was hoping he’d take a right and get on highway 17? 😆🏎 💨

Ha ha. Yeah imagine ripping this thing through SLV on Hwy 9.
I'd be scared to drive that among the sedans and SUVs... It is low enough to be nearly invisible coming up beside a car. Very cool.
The Porsche 917. To this day it's still the ultimate race car! R.I.P. Mark Donahue.
This is the damn coolest thing i've ever seen. You sir are a legend
That car is downright insane. On the Street? Whoaaaa!!!!
I spoke to Bruce at Monterey. He didn't know how popular this video was. See his shop..Museum..incredible
Lol's. He can barely get out of first. 4 speed transmission of top speeds over 230mph. The best looking and sounding Lemans Prototype ever. And the Livery? Well that Gulf Livery is Iconic. The millions this original 917 is worth is amazing. I'm sure it goes up every year. My favorite car ever. Lemans with Steve McQueen is epic. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for this unbelieveable Video ! A 917 on a normal road; unbelieveable. Thanks again !
Oh man, that car is nuts. That was wonderful. Cheers 🍺
Wow! I would have had to pinch myself if I saw this pull up next to me at the traffic lights :)

Some difficulty if reaching up to pay at a toll booth. Other than that, an ideal commuter car.

Must have seen a cop coming. Quick into the garage and throw a tarp over it. " A Porsche out on the road? Couldn't possible be one of ours. You must be mistaken officer "
That car is Ultra Low and Ultra Cool.... the sound is Magic. Thanks for sharing this video.
Porsche Porn. No other way to describe it.
I bet the neighbors love seeing different race cars all the time.
Fantastic maintenance job, Ferdinand Piech, and John Wyer might be very happy to see this beautiful 917 K; Congratulations Bruce and your Team
That sound and the look, amazing. Thank you.

Fantastic but very, very easy ride... Real joy would start way above 6k rpm.
Vicious, brutal, visceral living moto art. I was smitten when I first laid eyes upon and heard it at Watkins Glen Can Am 1973 with the likes of Mark Donahue and (crazy) Jody Schecter at the wheels. Those were the 917/30 Spyders with twin turbos too! Unreal!
Mr Canepa is by far the consummate car guy .Always in awe and appreciation for what he and his crew do at his shop. The cars and the craftsmanship done is top rate. As a mechanic myself I what it takes not miss a step or it shows. Nothing else to say but right on!

Driving this dream car on the road. What a treat!
Very quiet...smooth and durable motor....PORSCHE AT ITS AIR COOLED BEST..!
That's one entry on my Bucket List that'll never happen!

See 917, watch 917, thumbs up 917. It’s all automatic. Fantastic, thanks for sharing!!!
How SWEET this is!!!
Had one show up to Wichita cars and Coffee last spring. A pal brought his vintage GT40 along to keep him company. There’s a KZread video of him running downtown, good long video and interview.
LOL, that shop is cleaner then my home!
What a awesome car.
I drive this street regularly. How I wish I was there that day!
+1 ...This is hilarious! ... A Porsche 917 tooling down the boulevard.. Gotta luv it. .. Life is too short ... "Rev up the 917 I'm heading out for a spin." .. I'm goin' old skol .... We don't need no skink'in monocoque chassis .. Let's ride!
" When i drive that slow you know it's hard to steer, and i can't get my car out of second gear!!! " Sammy Hagar, Bruce Canepa.

Good lord! I continued to watch the screen even after the vid was over.
Fires right up with zero drama. Definitely a Porsche.
INCREDIBLE !!
lovely sound :)
I'm reminded of a wild captured animal pacing back and forth in a cage, dying to get out and run free
The sight ! 😃 The sound! 😃 The intensity! 😃 I think I just soiled myself!!😩
I'm just amazed at the turn radius. Many street cars can't turn that tight.

I think these have a spool in the rear too. i thought the only way to make a u turns was doing half a donut
Nice to see this car used occasionally to keep everything supple and the cobwebs at bay. Fierce clutch and that 1st gear seems quite tall. I'd love to drive one of these. Two reasons. 1/ built for speed no compromises. 2/ rawness and noise of that air-cooled motor screaming at the top end. One of my all time (iconic) dream cars. 917, 959, F40 in that order. Nice video was little nervous of all that traffic still, nice to see it's let out of the barn to stretch it's legs...

4 speed transmission. First gear goes to 60 MPH, depending on the ratios installed. I noticed he got into second.
Those lucky lucky folk that saw that from the side walk or from their car. Lucky people.
Seven minutes of pure joy.
I would totally lose it from shock if this rolled up next to me at a streetlight. And even the windshield wiper looks like a technical marvel...
What I'd do to experience this.
I wonder how many of those other drivers knew what they really saw. At least a couple moved to free up a lane. Reminds me of the 289 Cobra rides. Great job keep exercising that beauty.

If any recognized it as a 917, they would have automatically assumed it was a replica. Not a bad assumption to make given the value of the original.
That's just sick as fawck man.
Nice shop by the way!!
So I told my friend.... "I was at this stop light and honest to God a 917/10 pulled up next to me". Then he called me a LIAR!!!!!
Just out for coffee. Nevermind me! Pardonnez?
Car of true beauty.
What a total gentleman...courteous safe respectful..I can’t do that in my Beetle. :-)
What a beast...
Many years ago, Steve McQueen’s 917 went through the Monterey R &M auction. Chassis number 917.022. A buddy of mine was a partner with the auction house. Several days later when I heard the car had been there and expressed excitement, he told me , “Gee, if I’d known you were that interested , you could have driven it through the auction!” 🤯😱🤯😱🤯😱 I said “ That’s a hell of a thing to tell me AFTER THE FACT!”😭😩😭😩 If my memory serves me correct, I believe it sold for$2.2m. How times have changed!
Nice music. I love it.
What an awesome sound
I want it! Your sitting in the middle...of the car - man...love it.
Well, that's suitably crazy---nice Mr. Canepa
EPIC ! nothing less than Epic !
What can I say other than AWESOME !
Simply Sensational!
I don’t mind doing my food shopping everyday in this beast! I love it!
Wow!. That is great! i wish one day before I die I would have the opportunity to get behind the wheel a Gulf Porsche 917k. My childhood dream.
Restoration par excellence!
Perfect daily I’d say 👌
Love it!
MOAR! MOAR OF that please! If I saw that on the street next to me I’d probably have to pull over immediately, to find my mandible!
Looked like an RC car next to the big guy in the garage.
This is so f’ing insane, wish this was my town and we’d get to see and hear such a fabulous piece of history and one of the greatest cars ever made, IMHO, along with the Ford GT40 and 427S/C Shelby Cobra
Is that a car, or is it a skateboard? You're looking under all the axles of all the other cars!!! FANTASTIC!!!
Can't wait to build one
I’ve driven many many different 911s but this would be my dream drive. But got to admit a modern GT3 isn’t bad
Wild!
My dream car !!
So amazing, especially next to a Prius! A 580hp go cart.
And a bonus Eb110!! NIIICCCEEEE
Gulf Livery Porsche 917 K, takes me back to 24 hours "LeMans"👦🏻👍🏻🏎🏁
I have seen this car to Monza in 71 driven by Siffert, Redman. I was an italian boy aged fourteen .
Your my hero!
👍👍👍
Legendary.
IMO, every LMP car should be capable of doing this. Make Le Mans start in Paris and drive a predefined route to Le Mans obeying the speed limit.
Imagine - u drive home from shopping and all of a sudden a 917 KH drives by... :)
I think there was a video of Bruce driving the 917/30 on the street as well!
Wow now that was a fun drive. 👍
Bruce has some really big balls taking a917 out on city streets. A CHP cop would love to get their hands on one of those unlicensed and uninsured.
i didn't see him put on his turn signal when he brought the car back to the shop .. wait .. does the 917 have turn signals? if not, proper turn edicate would be hand signals out the window .. wait .. can you open the left window on 917 to do a hand signal? bruce, thank you so much for the tour of scotts valley :)
@fletsepopje

It has turn signals at the rear of the car. There's a small part of the side windows that can be opened, but only a little bit. I doubt you can put your arm or hand thru it.
That wiper arm is a work of art
