Browning Trail Camera, YOU LET ME DOWN! Why a NEW Trail Cam Failed in 91 days!

Спорт

The Browning Recon Force Elite HP5 Trail camera has many awesome features, but it appears to have a design flaw that caused my trail cam to stop working! I think that I have recognized the flaw, but I'd like to hear some feedback from Browning Recon Force Elite HP4 and HP5 users.
I made a trail camera review for the Browning HP5 but could not field test it in the jungle, but I suspect this camera needs to last more than 13 weeks. Here is my original trail camera review of the Browning Recon Force Elite HP5: • Browning Recon Force H...
The Browning ReconForce Advantage was by far the best Browning Trail camera produced.

Terrible that this has happened! Brand new camera! I wonder if it has a bad seal or what. I hope you will share Browning’s findings with us since it is under warranty. I’ve had mine for about the same amount of time and it has been through several thunderstorms with heavy rain. Thankfully, no issues yet. I also have the Spec Ops version. I wonder if others have had any similar issues. Thanks for posting this. I look forward to any updates. Char

I wanted to add that there are other models that also have grooves on the top as well. I don’t think it is a new thing for the HP5 cameras. The Spec Ops Edge cameras have them as well as do the Recon Force 4K cameras. Now I am really wondering what the issue might be!

I went back and looked at the hp4 on Amazon. It’s looks to have the housing as the hp5. One review mentioned water damage. Here in Costa Rica, we are over 90 inches of rain for the year. The rainy season started in mid April. 😳 I’ll probably have to make some type of mini roof over the HP5’s going forward.

Good Morning. I bought one of these but it still hasn't arrived for me, I'm worried now. To save on batteries, I'm using 1.5V lithium rechargeable batteries, they accept up to 1000 recharges. I bought it on aliexpress at the official XTAR store. After a look, I really liked the batteries and they manage to last around 8:04hs of recording on my spec ops elite hp4. I say this because I left a bag of corn in the woods and my 128GB SD card recorded 84.1GB and 815 files. I'm subscribed and I follow all your videos, I really like your videos. Regards. Erik sorry for my english, i'm brazilian and i use google translator, both on youtube to see your videos and now to write to you.

Hi Erik! Obrigado! Don’t be worried! They are great cameras. Place a roof over the top of the camera to protect it from rain. I did not do that, but I will in the future with model camera. I would like to use rechargeable batteries. However, I don’t live in Costa Rica all the time, but can only come visit 4-5 times a year. Most won’t last that long. If your last over 8 hours then I will certainly look into them. Thanks-Frank.

I use an old plastic cranberry container that is cut out and fits perfectly over mine to act as a umbrella, so far so good? I did have my first battery tray split out because of the battery’s force pushing out, but Browning sent me a new one.

Not sure yet. If this was just a flaw in this camera or if it is a model wide flaw. Perhaps this camera in a bear box, roof, or silicon to keep water from seeping in. The camera is great, the housing seems like a problem.

Uh, that's bad indeed. Do you know Ticos Wild Studio, another channel showing trail cam footage? They often install a small metal kinda roof above the cameras to let water just flow over it and down! So they keep them quite dry. Maybe this could help a bit

I do use a roof for the cell cameras which leak around the antenna screw in connection. I’ll probably have to do the same going forward.

Hi Frank - sorry to hear you've had a water ingress issue. Browning should just sort that out pretty quick and send you another. On the moulding - thats nothing to worry about, and not the cause of the issue you've had. It doesn't channel water into the camera as the seal stops that. It would also mean you'd have water pouring out of your camera! If you undid the 6 screws on the back, you can see where that seal sits and how the mould works. You can see the seal in this video from Bob Zak; kzread.info/dash/bejne/lap-udyhaaWtm6Q.html&feature=emb_title&ab_channel=RobertZak This back mould has been in use since the Edge cameras in 2019 - so the Edge, HP4, Edge 4K, and now HP5. The gasket position changed slightly from the older Advantage to be fully internal - which is why the screws on the Advantage have rubber plugs over them (because there was no other seal below that point) and the Edge/HP4/HP5 cameras do not have rubber plugs on the screws (as the seal sits below this). The issue you've had is definitely unusual and you shouldn't see the same occur on the replacement - providing the DC plug on the base is fully closed. Hope that helps a little - always sucks when a camera stops working, but should be sorted quickly!

I'm not too worried as far as a replacement camera from them. They are great on warranty. We have had almost 3 meters of rain since January, but this camera was nowhere near a stream or creek. I'm hoping it was just this one camera.

I just purged the last Browning camera from my lineup. I've had more problems with them and will never buy another. Water ingress and ants gets in them. I currently have 8 Stealth Cam/Muddy from GSM and 11 WOSPORT cameras and other then a battery tray being down letting in moister and bugs, I've had no real issues. I also would NEVER buy another MOULTRIE camera. Just complete junk!

I hate to hear you had so much trouble. A Browning rep told me recently that they thought water was coming through the microphone port. Myself and many others are awaiting the new browning cameras that will hopefully stop the problems. I have never tried muddy. How is the video quality? Browning has the best quality video I have seen in a trail cam and records at 60 frames per second. While wait for the new camera line, I’m experimenting with the low and high end models of GardePro, with mostly decent results.

Well, I'm not quite sure they are quite that bad(compared to other cameras). Almost all tech companies hit on one great product, yet when they they try to make 'improvements', they fail. It kinda goes with cutting edge. These cameras in the HP5 body is excellent, but (at least in my case) the body is to blame. Lest hope it s a one-off bad apple problem. However, since the Recon Force Advantage, almost every camera since then has faileddd
