A lady I worked with had a husband who was a captain in the Philippine army. He served for 20 years and when he retired, he kept (?) his service M16A1, Colt 1911A1, and a S&W .38 special revolver. When he passed away, she gave the assault rifle to her husbands sister and the handguns to her own family members, because she was migrating to another country, that restricted civilian ownership of firearms, especially those ones. She told me, the reason she gave the guns away to family, was because the local scumbags knew her dead husband was a career military man, and was willing to risk getting shot, to steal those guns away.

The AR-10/15 variants have been in military and civilian use for almost 60 years now. Regardless of the initial teething issues it had, it's a brilliant design - a testament to Eugene Stoner's genius. Lightweight, simple, mostly affordable, smooth firing impulse, and dependable - as long as you keep it clean. Shoutout to Brownells for giving us these retro editions. Wish car manufacturers did that - although that's just not possible considering today's litigation and safety hurdles, not to mention shifting consumer demands. I'd much rather have a '69 Camaro then a '19. Just sayin...

In May of 1964 I walked into a local gun shop and there was a black AR15 on the wall. After growing up listening to vets from WW2 and watching Korea take place in the newspapers I was shocked It looked like a space gun back then. I bought that rifle and a like new 9mm Luger that day. The luger cost me $34.95 I still have both to this day.

back in 1969, during WEAPONS FAMILIARIZATION in SERE school, we were introduced to the M 16. I have no idea which version it was. immediately i realized why the name became the MATTEL TOY of guns. it did NOT look like or feel like a GUN, but did the job just fine.

Actually Mattel made all the "plastics" for the rifle. Usually the quantity of rifles ordered is larger than the ability for just one manufacturer to make in the time needed. Just look at the original jeep made by Willys was also made by Ford.

In my early days the 5.56 had the rear charging handle and the 7.62s the charging handle was under the carry handle. The NZ military had both the AR 15 in both nato rounds as well as the FN-FAL & SLR in 7.62. I prefered the FN over The AR.

Maybe it's just the mic but the trigger reset on this sounds loud as hell.

I admit to taking part in the retro kick right now. I un-built a flattop, modern gun and turned it into an M727ish gun. Classier, handier, simpler. Also: Would love to see you guys run a course of fire with these guns (and others). Maybe similar to TFBTV's Run-and-Guns?

To cure the flash hider prongs from ringing, just slip a curtain ring over it. It stops it cold.

My god that ringing is annoying. Is that something just picked up by the mic or is that as audible when actually shooting it?

Toxicmatrix it’s the 3 prong flash hider. It’s basically just a tuning fork and was quickly replaced.

When I'm just shooting (not training) I prefer an iron sighted AR. My '80s H-Bar is just so ridiculously accurate. And yes boys and girls, there was a time when Colt made a high quality product. :-)
