Brown Trout Eating Beetles on the Shoreline // Patagonia Day 2, 2024

Спорт

Every Sunday we'll drop another video as a part of a "day by day" series from the trip Joe Rotter @ Red's recently hosted in Patagonia. It's raw, real, and a fishing-focused documentary of a week at Cinco Rios and Estancia Del Zorro Lodges where we love fishing and host trips.
This is a 7-day series and you'll see lakes, small rivers, big rivers, and spring creeks. Filmed daily and all in a single week of fishing. Day 2 we drove to a lake in the mountains and used beetle flies to imitate the large Cantaria Beetles that inhabit the shoreline!

The gentleman in the front of the boat just couldn’t figure it out like Joe had. Casting ability in every type of technical fishing is huge and key to success!!!!!!! Thanks, I really enjoyed this!!!!!!

Some great casting in there. I love your excitement. You have caught millions of fish and when you catch your next one the excitement is like your first fish 😂

It was interesting to watch you gradually get the hang of setting the hook on those fish. Nice job. Beautiful setting. Can't ask for much more !

Thanks 👍On long casts with flexible trout rods I seemed to be more effective with a strip set and tightening the line up as the fish floated up to the fly.

@redsflyshop Indeed ! And, sometimes it's just the act of being there, no matter what happens. Again, lot's of fun, obviously.

Great video! Would love to try this style of fishing on lakes. Looked like you were using a short leader to get those beetles in those tight pockets. Were you using a standard 7.5ft taper leader for this or a custom leader?

Typically 2X, and I prefer mono in order to keep my tippet up on the surface.

Awesome video! Gorgeous scenery as well. You are using barbless so you're going to lose fish. I hope you do a video on the lodge, amenities, food, and gear you took with you. Best!

Question about losing fish on hookups like this… I had a similar issue in the Yellowstone area.. hooked about two dozen fish on hoppers and beetles, lost way more than I landed. Any advice on keeping them on or what causes the drop offs?

Barbless hooks and big foam dry flies are always going to kick loose a lot of fish. Low rod angles bent to the side will help tremendously!

The beetles hard body parts must poke the fish enough when they eat, they are used to it. Because that brown did not hesitate to eat 2x like he’s dealt with that before. Just a thought

1X is most common, 2X is ok. 3X will just spin and is pretty weak. Good question!

I thought Dale was a kid to begin with. Europeans will get it. Great fishing, but no real big big fish. Thats a pity.

The fly's you show in your videos look nothing like the fly's you're selling. Showing real beetles ans trying to sell cartoons 😆😆😆
