DIY Winter Tight Line Nymphing on the Yakima River

Спорт

Join Joe Rotter @ Red's for a short wade fishing trip near Ellensburg, Washington on the Yakima River. Warm winter days can be good fishing, especially since the water is low and the trout are holding in fairly distinct holes.

Your fish along videos are definitely my favorite ones. I’m on the wet side mostly sea run cutt fishing but love seeing these videos. Gets me eager to head over to the grill and get one of those wagyu burgers and maybe even land a few trout.

Thanks Joe! Merry Christmas to you and your family. What about using a 3wt trout spey and flymphing or dead drift that sweet point fly and leisenring lift at the end of the drift? I’m gonna play with that with my 11’7” 3wt ACR on the lower Deschutes Christmas week

  • @redsflyshop

Give that a shot. My experience has been that these presentations are so touchy and delicate, even with large flies, that a trout spey rod would be overkill. Handling 5X tippet (which is almost essential to slice through the current), is a job for light rods.

On this rig it's a RIO 25# Slick Shooter. There are pro's and con's to all lines on Euro rods so I'm not loyal to this. It makes a good spey shooting line when I put a Skagit head on that reel and is a very stiff line and handles really well as far as mono is concerned.

@@redsflyshop , I used to run all mono but was having issues with it slipping through my reel (even though mine is closed cage) so I bought a Euro fly line from you guys, which has worked well but it doesn't cast as well as full mono. Might have to try this slick shooter
