Brown’s Hotel Laugharne - A Stay At Dylan Thomas’s Favourite Watering Hole

Brown’s Hotel in Laugharne, West Wales is now a boutique hotel but back in the day, Browns Hotels was the favourite pub of the Welsh poet, Dylan Thomas.
Dylan Thomas lived in Laugharne with his wife Caitlin and his family until his death in 1953. He is buried in the local cemetery. You can visit his last home “the Boathouse” which overlooks the picturesque Taf Estuary.
You can find Brown’s Hotel in the centre of Laugharne a short walk from Laugharne castle. The building dates from 1752 and became a hotel back in the 19th century.
The hotel bar is named Dylans after Dylan Thomas and the restaurant is Dexters Steak House & Grill, named after the Dexter breed of cattle.
Just to mention - We paid for the stay and all costs ourselves.

Maybe twenty years ago I did all that both. It's a superb area. Spoke to people who said(😏🙄) they knew him etc. They're probs dead now, as they were old then. He was a troubled man apparently. Don't forget he didn't find fame until USA. There are bars all over NYC with his photos. As for the weather. I read from the beach restaurant 😸 in Alanya today, sitting in 27c 🌞 😃 that UK had a bloody heatwave. (It's 29c tomorrow 🙄here) Never mind, it was nice to see both Tenby and Larne again. Great memories. Good posting both.

I did get chance to visit the White Horse Tavern when I was last in New York. The bar where he had his last drink before going back to the Chelsea Hotel.

What a great little gem of a place. I think I might just pop in there once I move to Wales. Incidentally, it's a little-known fact that Dylan Thomas was as keen on the odd Jumbo Sausage as he was of the bottle. I am surprised that the great Dylan Thomas Jumbo Sausage didn't appear on the menu. Such a lost marketing opportunity.

Dylan's unfortunate history has been cosied up a bit here but the tragic fact is that he was a raging alcoholic. Brilliant yes. Talented yes. Incoherent at times yes. Alcoholic attacks causing misery and heartbreak to himself and those around him. Definitely yes.
