12 Most Loved Towns in Wales
What are the most loved towns to live in Wales? You need to appreciate the features of the best towns in Wales to understand why Welsh love their towns and cities. And we love them too! You can gain some insight into what we are saying by considering the report by Garrington, a property finder company, on the ranking of the villages, towns, and cities in the United Kingdom based on the four categories of the physical environment, quality of living, architecture or heritage and going green. The nominated places were assessed by expert judges on the basis of factors such as schools, transport, broadband speed, and health of the high street, from all that, we present these 12 most loved towns in Wales for your consideration.
12. Porthmadog, Gwynedd
If the coastal town of Porthmadog could rank third best in Wales and 42nd in the UK as a whole, it should be loved by not only the residents but also the visitors. What brought this town to our list is its high ranks for both natural and architectural beauty. Yet, it’s not such a green town for it doesn’t rank so good in that regard. Nevertheless, you’re likely to love a beautiful town where the average family home is not up to 350,000 pounds.
11. Narberth, Pembrokeshire
The town of Narberth in Pembrokeshire in west Wales was once known as home to Pwll, Prince of Dyfed, in the Mabinogion. The excitement of its nomination in the Google Street View Awards as the home of Britain’s best shopping street is fetching it much love. Other things making it a lovable town are the Narberth Food Festival and The Grove. This is a town where you can stroll in the Oakwood Theme Park.
10. Machynlleth, Powys
Machynlleth, a market town in Powys, is surrounded by rolling green fields that make it an awesome town in Wales. It’s surprisingly a cosmopolitan center. For education, it’s loved as the Centre for Alternative Technology, an eco-hub in Europe where everyone from school kids to engineers learns about the need to protect the planet. Foodies will fall in love with Ynyshir, a Michelin-starred restaurant whose reputation goes far and wide as the 12th best restaurant in the whole of the UK by the Good Food Guide.
9. Cardigan, Ceredigion
We can’t do without this pleasant town in Ceredigion. We too love the town not because it is homonymic to our lovely winter-resistant garb, no, not for its name, but because of its features. And we possibly can’t tell you all that here. But we shall try. Cardigan ranks 5th in Wales and 47th across the UK. The most important feature of this attractive town is the average home cost. With less than, 325,000 pounds, you can own a home. But then, it also ranks well for architectural beauty and quality of life. It’s not doing badly on green rank with a score of 247 out of 1372.
8. Barmouth, Gwynedd
Barmouth, a town in Gwynedd, is the 8th most loved town in Wales. If you saw our other videos about towns to live in Wales, you will appreciate why Barmouth will always be in good companies like this. It is lovable. Of course, we agree to place it in the 4th position on the list of the best towns to live in Wales and 46th in the whole of the UK. It’s less than the best rank in green rank mars the great score of 60 out of 1372 in natural beauty and equally that score in architec

Having lived in Wales as a kid, and now near the Welsh border, I grew up calling Llandrindod Wells just Llandod, spent many a Sunday on the lakes there. I won’t comment on some of the pronunciation of the other place names, but I probably wouldn’t have attempted them without practice and research, but a nice video anyway. Love Barmouth.

Agreed on the pronunciation bit but Tenby is the winner for me. Bit surprised St Davids wasn't on the list but I am a little biased!!
On a hike through the Mount Snowden National Park we stopped at a village called Betws -y-Coed. We went into a cafe for a coffee and a snack and were discussing how to pronounce the name of the village. I said, well, why don’t we ask a local. We called the waitress over and asked her how to pronounce the name of this place. With a very serious look on her face and speaking loudly and slowly she said ‘The Alpine Coffee Lounge’. She was a bit miffed when we all just about fell off our chairs laughing.😂

Hello i am from Singapore i am 40 years old. First of all thank u so much for uploading this useful video about Wales. Honestly i ever been to UK i been to Birmingham in 2014 i went there for my girlfriend's wedding.
Awesomeness
Oh dear, much criticism and little offered by way of help... First thing to realise - and not only about Welsh I might add, is that different languages often have different alphabets. Welsh has several double letters such as ch, dd, ll, rh, th and so on - that count as single letters - though you might be forgiven for not knowing how to pronounce them all! Y and w are both consonants or vowels (plus a, e, i, o, u in the vowel category) . K is one of several letters the Welsh alphabet doesn't have - the sound is represented by C, which is never pronounced as ss.... Some of the letters found in both languages sound quite different in each! Spa towns often have the word 'Wells' in their names - even in English. e,g, Tenbury Wells, Malvern Wells, Royal Tunbridge Wells, etc. Welsh people have a fairly distinctive beat in the way they pronounce all of the syllables, the emphasis of the word often falling on the middle or penultimate syllable... Now, can you begin to understand their criticisms, yet... For the record, I am Scottish, not Welsh! But we all must begin somewhere - and life is nothing if it's not a learning curve... It's a lovely film otherwise though, you can take heart in that much, I hope!
I lith in the oldest city in wayols in bangor its thw 1500 yers old
“Llandrindod, in Wells” 😂😂😂
awesome
Please, if you're going to talk about Wales, take some advice about how to pronounce the place names. Some of the pronunciations in this series are laughable.
I would have loved to hear him pronounce Llanfair ym Muallt. Most can’t even manage the anglicised version, Builth Wells. I’m also having a hard time understanding who voted for those particular towns when Wales has so much more to offer than a few tourist traps.
Wales is probably one of the prettiest counties in england????????? For goodness sake!!!! Outrageous pronunciation.
Brecknockshire? That doesn't exist anymore.
Beaumaris would be top of my list and where is Aberystwyth?!
Need some work on your Welsh place names. Even 10 minutes worth to check out how you pronounce the places listed would make the video watchable.
The narrator is not alone in not bothering to even attempt to pronounce Welsh words correctly
Please learn how to pronounce Welsh place names and counties.
only name you got right was cardigan
What I Learned in Wales | Marcus Ward's Visions kzread.info/dash/bejne/damC14-HlbOtnrg.html
Best fish 'n' chips I ever had was in Barmouth.
He managed a 10 on Tenby. Da iawn.
What about Llandudno?
Glad he didn't try Rhosllanerchrugog or Dwygyfylchi.
He manages to get Cardigan right but Ceredigion wrong, the C at the beginning of Ceredigion is pronounced like the English letter K same as the letter C at the beginning of Cardigan so it's pronounced Keredigion not Seredigion.
Ceredigion is pronounced with a 'K' at the beginning. Not a soft 'C' or 'S' sound. good video though. polish up on the pronunciation, maybe though but understood that can be quite difficult for the non speaker. A double L as in LL (predominantly at the start of a word or name) sounds like clearing ones throat or back of the tongue. Lots of mouth lubrication helps too. Saliva is essential to pull some words off in Welsh speaking perfection. Good video tho'. Lot's of LOVE from Wales anyhow Learning Canteen'.! CARU
What about Caerphilly
I don’t think you could butcher the pronunciation of the place names any further if you tried. Terrible and made me cringe. 😢
Clicked the video for the curiosity, stayed for the pronouncistion 😅
How to walk on both sides of the street at the same time in a wales shirt at 5:32.
What about Barry ?.
Are you deliberately butchering the names here?
Pronunciation quite bad
KIDWELLY ?!? My Lord, someone who created that rank definitely NEVER been to this S**THOLE! What about Caernarfon, Denbigh, Llangollen, Conwy, Llandudno, St. David's, Holywell, Llanidloes, Aberystwyth, Dolgellau, Betws-y-Coed, Abergavenny, Ruthin, Aberareon, Fishguard, Laugharne, Monmouth, Harlech or Crickhowell?
I'm more surprised by the omissions than by the pronunciations. A strange list.
Would be something if you pronounced the Towns properly!
You need someone who knows how to pronounce the names properly

Most of the places are mispronounced. There should be more research done on this.

You should at least research how to pronounce the town names - it’s not difficult

At least research a bit of pronunciation for place names before making videos like this! Llan... is pronounced Clan for instance.
This is a terrible video telling you how lovely a town is and then showing you a carpark and tescos and don't get me started on the pronunciation 😂
Appalling pronunciation, a complete insult to the Welsh language and those of us who speak it.
Cardigan is a horrible place, rugs and crime are rampant. Twll dŷn y wlad. Kidwelly isn't a nice place either. There are far more beautiful and interesting towns in Wales

I was in Cardigan for 6 months , i must have missed the crime you are talkimg abaout . I found it very pretty and the locals were lovely . The Nature park by the River Teifi is beautiful .
C'mon, if you're doing a video on Welsh towns, please spend 10 minutes research finding out how to pronounce them. Machynlleth is a tricky one, but "Ceredigion" is easy enough, and it's not "Serrydijion". The lack of basic research on pronunciation doesn't inspire hope for the accuracy of the rest of the video.
Welsh pronunciation is awful.
Had to stop the tape. The horrible pronunciation of the Welsh names was too bad. To make no effort is an insult to Welsh people.
"Ceredigion", please do a bit of research first and learn how to pronounce! FFS!
Don't bother visiting. The country has the most wretched weather in all of Europe. Rains everyday for months on end
