Eh, her whole life was pretty dark. If you read her back story even back to when she was being turned into a Ghost in the beginning. It's called understanding where a person is coming from - maybe you don't know her whole back story though.

While thats true, Augustgrad was only established as the TD's capital AFTER the UED were defeated. The mission didn't take place in the city, so it's more likely Jim's referencing the end of HotS than Kerrigans assault on their joint enemy in the past.

Master Asia good point, but dehaka was not under the psi control of the zerg, along with the rest of the primals, they had free will. zagara was extremely aggressive throughout the whole campaign and stukov may have infested civvies that hadnt made it out to grow his forces. based on how long he spent in that facility and the experiments done to him, he prob lost all care for other people

Oh, I'm not saying Kerrigan and her allies didn't inflict damage and cause casualties(I seem to recall at her testing ultralisks in Augustgrad), what I was saying is what damage they did cause was lessened due to Kerrigan making that deal with Valerian. Without that deal, the Zerg Swarm would have hot dropped right into Mengsk's front door and the surrounding area, causing damage mulititudes greater than what was actually inflicted.

Augustgrad was the Dominion's capital since the end of the very first campaign from Starcraft 1. Arcturus gives his inauguration speech there. The city was directly attacked in Brood War while held by the UED and their Renegade Swarm by Kerrigan and her Broods. So, Kerrigan's attacked Augustgrad twice with the Zerg, and Raynor could easily be mentioning either. Also, Valerian asked Kerrigan to spare civilians. That didn't mean her attack on the palace was any less hectic.

Fun Fact: Some believe a handshake is a customary sign of trust because in ancient times people wore their blades under their sleeves. Both individuals grab each other's wrists or hands, and shake to check if a blade is hidden. The fact that the Protoss have forearm blades pointed in the other direction defeats the effectiveness of the shake, but in an ironic way it makes the action more trustworthy.

It's also believed that the salute has one of two origins (in particular, the palm-forward version). First, raising of your visor or throwing back your hood to let your identity be known presents your palm. Second, showing an empty hand is a gesture of peace.

Seeing Valerian caring for the fallen men and Matt joining for help in the surface shows how much the Dominion has changed in a good way

Valerian Mengsk was one of the best characters in this story. He could have easily been a terror in his own right. Instead he chose to go out of his way to be better.

The Terran Colonies in the Koprulu Sector seem to all be Texan or generally Southern-esque. Like Arcturus, even Duran (he sounded like he was from Lousianna), Edmund Duke. Most of the SC1 unit dialogue too (SCV, Marines, Ghosts, Siege Tanks, Vultures, etc etc), with the exception of a few units (Valkyrie, Goliath, Battlecruiser, Science Vessel), i'm not entirely sure what accent the Dropship had. And in contrast, the UED sounded like they were mostly from Europe. Du Galle (honhonhon Baguette) and Stukov.

I love SC and SC2 but let it be said thr best thing to come out of this franchise is the awkward dialogue between swann and artanis.

I love how Artanis just is so positive and that he has learned from Jim that they are not so different after all, and Swan is taking this somewhat literally and not in the poetic kind of way Artanis mean it in (since they have not talked before). Therefore his little ackward sounding "Riiight" afterwards.

I think that interaction between Raynor and Artanis was perhaps one of the most amazing scenes in the entire StarCraft storyline.

It just intrigues me that Artanis knows the handshake but he doesn’t know how the handshake works till Raynor shows him how it’s done correctly

One imagines that with the K'hala gone Artanis has gone back to the archaic ways of the humans and has actually been READING things. With their method of transmitting generational knowledge gone, and the Zerg's method incompatible, the human method, books and literature, is the only game in town. It's the only currently aailable way to preserve Protoss history and thought. Human histories and dramas would become the archetype the new Protoss literati would use because it was a working system that was freely available and would give them a placce to start instead of making it up as they went along . So yes, human traditions would slip into Protoss thought as a result. The human thought permating both Protoss culture, through the new literati, and Zerg culture through Kerrigan, is one of the big reasons for the revolutionary new reality of Zerg and Protoss TALKING to each other. Their common experience with humans gave them a place to start in creating dialogue. It was their mutual contamination by human thinking that suddenly made a negotiated peace possible and even led to a temporary alliance between Protoss and Zerg, which was a ridiculous thing to even think before humans blundered into Koprulu. Suddenly the Protoss are evolving again. Suddenly the Zerg are organized. In a way humanity was as lethal to the Xel'Naga scheme as the Hybrids. They destroyed the order of things.

Or he did know, and offered his hand palm up intentionally, showing him even greater respect than just a simple handshake. And Raynor not just looking at the warp blade, but also evening out the respect. That, or as you say Artanis just putting up his hand, not really knowing the minutiae, which does make complete sense as well.

Starcraft 2's campaign, in my opinion, had some of the best cutscenes of any game I've played and one of the best campaigns I've played (If not my best). Just that Handshake scene shook me.

Valerian: I won't forget this kindness, hierarch. random dark Templar: Clever...

Raynor realizes Zeratul is dead, but Artanis is honouring his memory by wearing his armlet. "Give 'em hell, Artanis"...kick-ass line, and a emperor-esque response from Artanis - he just turns and looks up, psionically communicating for beam up, and with that music crescendo, you just know that some serious ass-kicking is about to go down. One of my all-time fav scenes.

If one watches closely, you will see immortal and dragoon legs are basically identical. Immortals are basically upgraded dragoons if i remember right.

Afaik immortals *are* dragoons, but are armed differently. Immortals and dragoons are injured heroes. in Fenix’s case, he was a badass zealot that got slain, then revived as a dragoon, then once again as the badass purifier we know. Thinking about it, it’s possible that the immortal replaced the dragoon as technology improved, using a more powerful weapon and better shielding.

@@misspurdy27288 If I understood the introduction of this storyline's Fenix, Fenix's mind was forked upon his first death as a zealot. His original body was placed into a dragoon, while a fork of his mind was encoded into the Purifier chassis. Their timelines diverged at that point. The Purifier Fenix did not recall his time as a dragoon because he did not experience it - only the original Fenix did.

In the Remastered version of Starcraft, there is an artwork depicting Zeratul shaking hands with Raynor in the ending of Brood War. Perhaps that’s where Artanis got the idea?

Man everytime i hear Vorazun being condesending about Zeratul even after being told repeatedly that he had no other option than slaying Raszgal... It makes me want to slap her with an Ultralisk.

It's always been beautiful to me; the idea that the Protoss and Zerg have the ability to communicate their thoughts and emotions with each other near-telepathically. But us humans? We've got nothing but our words, body language and facial expressions to communicate our thoughts and feelings. That's also... Kind of beautiful

Valerian, he owned the dominion, but Raynor can be trusted and an excellent and cunning commander

@@josephhugotjiong6741 Valerian has the core worlds, Raynor's strength is in the frontier. Valerian has superior numbers. Raynor would have access to superior resources. Raynor also has far, far more combat experience than Valeriann. The frontier was hit hard by the Zerg invasion, but if the two actually came to blows, it would be something close to a fair fight.

Didn't realize that Jim and Matt were under Valerian's newly reorganized Dominion government.

After Arcturus was defeated Raynor and Matt helped with the aftermath of korhal's zerg invasion so Raynor's raiders joined it since their goal was done and as Jim said "we also help people" they were not just some rebel group.

The ultimate goal of the revolution was to displace Arcturus, since he was a tyrannical ruler who didn't care what happened to his people. Now that the far more benevolent Mengsk Jr. is in charge, the rebels don't need to be rebels anymore - they're in it for the people, not for themselves.

I don't think they were. The way I remember it, they were their own group, not really under the government. But also not against it anymore since Varian... sorry, Valerian took over, so they cooperated. Their goals were aligned.

This is why I hesitate to do doom drops

I never play the next sequel StarCraft II. I still remember Tychus said about the protos artifacts.

Legacy of the Void was really my favorite campaign.. Artanis is just a badass and did badass stuff, it also had the best dialogue.. The dialogue was very weak in SC II but it is much better in Legacy..

@@meathead6155 Seeing your question, I would take the liberty of answering from my own perspective. The problem I have with the story is that I don't remember... I remember great many details from SC1, but SC2 in general was so generic that I just don't remember much of it. I loved the intro, that was unbeatably awesome, and I remember the gameplay which was mostly fun. Storywise, I remember we completely destroyed Shakuras. But I can't recall why. I do remember, though, that I realized "hell, they destroyed Shakuras, that's big... and I don't feel it". Shakuras was such an important world in Brood War and I still remember the feeling when I finished SC1 Protoss campaign and Tassadar sacrificed himself and then when I finished BW Protoss and Artanis and Zeratul wiped out the Zerg from Shakuras. I should have been completely invested in the story and bummed about Shakuras being gone. But SC2 was just emotionally empty and almost completely forgettable.
