The Brothers Johnson were the funkiest pair of brothers alive back in the day (Strawberry Letter 23, Land Of Ladies etc).

The Brothers Johnson didn't get the recognition they deserved. RIP Louis Johnson, the baddest bass player that ever lived. Gone way too soon!!

Agreed he certainly was and they should have had more recognition for their sound Quincy Jones used for Michael Jackson who had all the recognition

After listening to the Legendary "Larry Graham", it was Louis "Thunder Thumbs" Johnson who actually inspired me to pick up the bass and became my Funky Bass Idol. I have had the pleasure of meeting quite a few well known musicians in my time. But one of the most special meetings was when I met my musical Heros "The Brothers Johnson". So glad I had the opportunity and was certainly a most wonderful experience that I'll cherish the rest of my life. I met George and Louis when they were promoting their "Winner's" album in Los Angeles. Their first album that wasn't produced by Quincy Jones. First thing I remembered most from that gathering was how down to earth and friendly both Louis and George were to me. I had just drawn a charcoal rendition of their "Look Out For # 1" album cover in my big sketch book for them to autograph. Which they did 😀, George signs his "G" in the form of a treble cleff which I thought was so cool. Secondly I was shocked at how tall they were, I'm 5'11, they had to be something like 6'4 or 6'5, so I looked like "pee wee herman" standing next to them 🤣. It was interesting to hear George say were they grew up, because I knew they were from South Central LA. They graduated from Crenshaw High which had a baaad ass marching band. I grew up closer to the Hyde Park / Crenshaw area (Inglewood), which isn't too far from the Leimert Park area George speaks of.

Great advice coming from George Johnson. My sentiments exactly the current generation new or so-called musicians do not have the creativity of the era the Brothers Johnson came out of . facts

I learned the Brothers Johnson story through seeing Louis Johnson's obituary which was supplied to me by his friend and band mate Richard Heath. However, it was cool to hear details like they were originally auditioning for Stevie Wonder and Q was so bad, he could get them over to his studio.

The Brothers Johnson from Lookout For no 1 right to Kickin' not to mention the singles Evolution and Back Against the Wall respectively those of Louis and George Johnson and their impressive performances as sidemen have been a favorite with me throughout my younger years . I can actually say I was weaned on them listening to them and psyching over their wondrous playing , singing and songwriting skills . At the time I write this I can only hope that George is doing well and I miss Louis Johnson very much . Perhaps the George Johnson Band is working hard at a new cd but , in the meantime, may George and his family enjoy life and may the brothers' music live on in the minds and hearts of all those who knew of them and the future generations too.

Brothers johnson were great and so is Pharell. Creating is creating, sampling is not easy to do. I myself don’t sample, I actually play, but I enjoy watching the brothers sample on the MPC and make their magic. Most times they turn the sample into something total different.

I concur with you about sampling. The magic was already created when the writer conceived it and brought it to its fruition out of thin air. So,sampling is cheating in my estimation.
