Broodmother Speedrun in

Ойындар

The fastest Broodmother speedrun I'll ever do!
This was run on patch 1.1, before the added stagger cooldown, spear nerfs and Broodmother boss fight changes.
This is a tool assisted speedrun (TAS) because I used four different macros, each assigned to a different button on my mouse:
"Give up" macro pauses the game, hits the "give up" option and presses space to quickly make me not alive anymore. Saves minimal time but it was nice to make it a single button press.
"Spam E" macro does just that, rapidly presses E so I can pick stuff up and build stuff much much faster than normal. Pretty simple. Also makes the boss fight a bit simpler because I don't have to focus as much on picking the spears back up.
"Burg.L" macro mashes the 1 key to get through Burg.L's dialogue quicker and then turns in the chip immediately after.
And the most important one, the "door fling" macro. As you'll see, the door fling glitch can be used to get across the yard at absurd speed which is the crux of this route. It requires precise positioning and timing key presses. So the macro presses E to close the door, after a 15ms delay presses E again to open the door, then after another 15ms delay presses jump.
Because the door essentially teleports to the open position on the other side of the doorframe, if you jump while it's in the process of closing and opening you'll get its momentum transfered to you which sends you flying! This same behaviour is what allows us to get out of bounds with the door as well, although a macro isn't needed for that.
This was also a set seed run, so I'd make a save before I even move every time I started a run and if the rng was good I would use that initial save for future runs. It was taking too long to find the perfect seed though (this one still isn't perfect, four acorns in one area and four coal from one deposit would make it even better), so I started specifially hunting for a good seed which had:
Aphids at the start
4 acorn shells on the ground
10 chunks from 3 berries
Miteloaf in the hedge lab chest
5 boiling glands from the 5 bombardiers
4 coal from 2 deposits
Boost juice smoothie in the hedge lab outpost
This run was purely intended to show what's possible in the game so I'll obviously not be claiming any records with this run. Does that even need to be said?
Hope you enjoy!

    There's me going into the broodmother fight with 85 smoothies, 110 bandages, 59 meals, fully upgraded gear and weapons (exaggerating on the numbers a bit but you get the point lol). Then there's you going in with a 3 pebblets and a few pebblet spears.💀🤣 Impressive stuff, great job!

    @@Dosa-xp1nj Tbf the tricks are doable by a human, it would just take more attempts due to the inconsistency of the door fling (which I was able to bypass for this run using a macro). This run could still be cleaned up a bit so I think this time is actually beatable by a human following the same route and on a patch before the spear nerf and broodmother buff.

Because I slept at the start to be able to scan more stuff it'd be too soon to sleep again if I flung myself to the hedge, so setting the BLT to cook and running with to hedge with it is the fastest way there. Well it was another speedrunner Zylo that found the door launch glitch and I've been running Broodmother on and off for almost a year now, so once Zylo found that glitch it was just a matter of figuring out where to launch from to skip as much walking as possible. This is probably the craziest Grounded speedrun uploaded so far but some others have been working on a glitched any% run which is gonna look insane, so keep an eye out for that. Well when I built the door I actually lined it up so I could get the launch to the bbq spill, then I thought it would save time if I destroyed and rebuilt the door the fewest number of times possible so just messed with different launch positions until I found one that launched me to the thistle/Flat Rock. Figured out that the closer to the frame you stand the slower and less distance you travel so then started using similar positioning to launch to the bombardiers by the hedge

    Why do you prefer First person?

  • @HolyCodzta

    @HolyCodzta

    10 ай бұрын

    That is a great question! Thinking back to the first games I ever played, they were things like Abe's Oddysee, Super Mario on the original Gameboy, Metal Gear Solid etc, and they're all third person. Got very into Halo though so maybe it was playing so much of that that made me prefer first person, not sure. I've tried third person in Grounded and it can help with combat and I think I actually prefer the look of it because you can see more, but for parkour I'd say first person is just better because your character doesn't block your view so you can see exactly where you want to land. Do you prefer first or third person?

    Yeahh so I was trying that before I started running from a set seed but I would die often enough that I didn't want to risk a good rng run by not having the chestpiece. Then when I started running from a set save I just kinda forgot to try again without the armour. I also experimented with a different route at the start but that was before I had the hedge launch consistent, then after I decided to figure out how to get that consistent again I just forgot/decided not to try that route again. I could probably downpatch my game and do it again for the sub 17 but broodmother has been done to death at this point and people wanna see schmector, mantis, ibm, etc so I'd run all those before I go back to brood tas

    Is the door fling exploit super precise, or could someone do it without TASing? I'm guessing positioning is just for deciding where you end up, and not necessary for getting the fling to happen. Looks like a single frame-perfect 'e' input after closing the door, which sounds doable given a few attempts, but I assume you know a lot more about it, so I figured I'd ask. :p

  • @HolyCodzta

    @HolyCodzta

    Yeah it's a weird one, I need to test it more to be sure but it should be doable. There's a decent range of time between each key press where a launch can still happen, but I was just messing around for 5 minutes today trying to do it legit and even with the same line-up on the door I was getting launched to my death, suggesting that the timing also plays a part in the direction of the launch. To test it I plan to find the minimum and maximum delay possible between each key press and then record my own keystrokes to compare and help me learn the timing. There are some positions where a fling doesn't happen and the inputs are E E Space, to close the door, open it again then jump. I think it's learnable but it would take a lot more trial and error so I'm keen to test it with the macro to speedrun learning it

    @@HolyCodzta Awesome, thanks for the reply! Yeah, I would be interested in your testing. I think it would be awesome if we could find a consistent setup for a human to be able to perform it. (At least within some degree of accuracy) Even slightly imprecise with a tuft would probably save a lot of time in general.

    Yeah for sure. I'd say I got the launches about 90% as perfect as I could have for this run, I think the haze was the most refined. But for getting to hedge lab, even just launching to the grass up there would save a ton of time
