Born and raised there until age 12. Back in the 60s it was an extremely dangerous place to live. I had experienced some of my worst nightmares there. By the time we moved out (something I only thought the rich could do) I was so relieved. Now I would probably visit for nostalgia purposes. Not sure if my old building still exists on Intervale Avenue. At the same time I had fond memories growing up there. I was starting to hang out with the local hoods and that's when my father made the wise decision to leave.

I was living there in the 60’s and it was safe and clean then. I had good times, access to three libraries (east, west and north) handball courts nearby, block parties and knew everyone in my block. Loved it!

The 60's!!!! wow that is like a million years ago. I wasn't there very long and that was the 80's my parents moved us out of that hell hole before we graduated Elementary we were never allowed to ride our bikes beyond the block we lived on. I do have fond memories but I think it was because I was so young the reality of the neighborhood was not fully understood even when I return to look around the streets and blocks seem so small and narrow as a kid I remember them to be much bigger because I was so little back then.

Grew up there in the 80s as a kid to Chinese immigrant parents - just a few blocks away from Fordham Rd 4 train station and from the old Alexandria (then became Caldor) dept store where I got lost as a kid. My dad and bro got robbed at gun point but nothing of value was taken (they knew to carry decoys). It was just a cheap place to live until you can get out of there but the people who lived there were (and still are) honest, good hearted, hard working people. There was a small enclave of asians in the neighborhood back then - unsure if there are any left. It is much safer nowadays but you still need to put your head on a swivel and have some street smarts. However, don't forget that 99% of the folks there are just like you and me.

This guy made sure when he crossed that first park not to turn his camera to the right. Because he would have saw all those crackheads and homeless sitting right in that area. I noticed every time how he would avoid turning the camerain certain areas. But then focused it in areas that were more pleasant. He avoided showing where people normally hang out. He avoided showing where drug dealers sit on corners in deal drugs. He avoided the crackhead prostitutes. The neglected garbage pick-up areas. Making things look good is the best way to keep things the same. That was definitely not a pleasant walk if you used your peripheral.

There are some safe beautiful places to visit in the Bronx. The Bronx has hidden treasures there. The Bronx holds many if the historical landmarks such as rich cultural diversity, rich architectural beauty, it also has good museums and cultural libraries as well as good schools and universities there. The people there are full of life and the music that comes from the Bronx is legendary like Hip Hop. The artists that comes from the Bronx showed the world of it's rich colours and artistic expressions of art. I know cause l am an artist and teacher who taught students that came from the Bronx. It gets a bum rap all the time. Although, l live in Queens; l love the Bronx. Boogie Down Bronx !!! Bronx is indeed a beautiful place. You just got to find the hidden treasures.😊❤😊❤😊
