Bronski Beat - Smalltown Boy (City Gent Edit)[zhd extended vmix/remix]

Ultra-extended version of Smalltown Boy by Bronski Beat and Jimmy Somerville.
Back in the 80's I played this so much I smoothed the groove out - I always wanted a longer version.

Born in 57, this song always hits me in the feels, for all those who are different and struggle to be accepted.
This is THE song of the 80s
Being an awkward Irish white but Dutch red head...not knowing if I'd celebrate being a boy or girl.... This song made me feel good in the worst time of growing up. Thank you!!

FC: Yeah, it's the red head I'd be most concerned about... 😉 Just kidding (you have to be explicit on-line whenever trying to express humor) - MANY of my best friends are red heads and I've never held it against them. But your comment about the pains of growing up is heartfelt, we are just now discovering that it was felt by many. I'm happy that you found ways to overcome those moments - even if it was just escape through music. Thank you for sharing that deep hurt - hopefully this will help to make more people aware. ❤️👍 Z:

This is a good song for all those kids who feel bullied. Don't let them see you cry.
I am a straight man, when this song came out I was captivated by the sound, I love this stuff and this is as 80's as "dont you want me" I still find it hard to realize that the album was called "the age of consent", and that inequality for gay men was still so prevalent such a short time ago, and its people like this, Marc Almond and many more who have pushed to make the world a better place

People don't push the world. The world pushes people. Surfers don't push the wave. This art piece is but an accompaniment to the time and place in history, such as the western world of the 20th century, in which individual freedoms in general, and gay's in particular, had been already enabled by the material culture in the first place, before the epoch's artists came about to sing the epoch's songs. Art is foam, not sea.

I wasn't allowed to listen to this without my Dad laughing at the "gay potato" and making a big fuss about too many homosexuals on TV. I couldn't listen to it for years because at the time it released even Elton John and George Michael were playing it straight, the idea that a straight man could listen to a gay artist and connect on an emotional level was out of the question. Today I can listen and hear a beautiful, desperate display of vulnerability and emotion that touches the soul of anybody who will listen (and guess what, it didn't 'turn me gay').
amazing vocal, always was, 80s we miss You :-)
