Broncos & Bears QB Draft class options, talks Bo Nix, Caleb Williams, J.J. McCarthy | NFL | THE HERD

Спорт

Merril Hoge joins Colin Cowherd on The Herd to talk the 2024 NFL quarterback draft class, and which NFL teams might be interested in drafting these prospects early. The Denver Broncos are more than likely on the market, and Colin asks Hoge to weigh in on whether Bo Nix could be a good replacement for Russell Wilson. Then they turn to the Chicago Bears, who believe Caleb Williams has some Patrick Mahomes-like qualities.

    @jbmixes8368 glad someone else heard that. I can safely throw away everything this guy said, well most of it. He makes good point about what quarterback should be. His evaluations on this class are weak and I can tell he's not watching enough tape to make an eval. Just enough so he can have clickbait opinion on radio row. Then he dropped to his knees for Pickett and I almost fell outta my chair.

There are a ton of similarities between the two coming out of college, and they share the same traits as to why certain analysts aren’t/weren’t sold on them. Zach Wilson in SF or with Andy Reid isn't a bust. Where your drafted and the stupidity of teams affect your career. The jets from day 1 had no line. No run game after hall got hurt. No weapons. Terrible vanilla play calling yhen blamed him for everything yet they were still mediocre without him in. What did the hc and oc develop? QBs don't fail under Reid and most are successful under Shanahan. Salah and brian s in new york are trash. If you can't develop talent its on you as a staff

    The term “pro-style offense” is so vague & outdated. It used to apply to teams that ran a lot of 21 & 12 personnel with the QB under center more. With how the game has evolved over the past 10 years to more Shotgun snaps/spread looks, that term has changed, so if/when scouts use that term, just know that it means the QB needs to be able to make plays from the pocket consistently.

  • @TJB270

    @TJB270

    3 ай бұрын

    The term “spread” is vague too. A lot of NFL teams use spread looks nowadays consistently, it’s just the spread option focused teams or spread teams in college that rely on a QB not having to make as many plays in the pocket that analysts are referring to. That’s the reason Mahomes fell & why Hoge isn’t 100 % sold on Williams.

    In my opinion if Michael penix jr go to Miami at 21 it would be like dan Marino going to Miami late in 1983 in my opinion.

    I’m glad Merril doesn’t use that vague, outdated term “pro style offense.” It’s a misnomer. Just evaluating if they can play from the pocket consistently or not.

    If you can't improve players such as he said with Maye than why do coaches exist? Evidence to the contrary: Josh Allen, Jalen Hurts, Jordan Love...

    All I know is this is the best year Denver could have hoped for to replace their overpaid QB. I don’t see any thing wrong with many of them in the Draft. Broncos got LUCKY!

    Hoge is correct on a vast majority of his takes when it comes to the draft. I trust him and Klatt the vast majority of the time, on this I go with Hoge over Klatt. Williams is good but underwhelming

    Kenny Pickett?? Wow. He thinks Caleb isn’t special. Ok, his opinion. It goes against the massive consensus, but fine. But Kenny Pickett can win a Super Bowl??? Sweet Jesus.

    Drake Maye Daniels, Mccarthy top 10 , Penix late 1st because of injury are the only QB's I would take in this draft. I would trade the pick if they were not available. Nix can't go 1st rd. He played catch from a protected pocket .
