Had a steel 6 speed Brommie a few years ago. Built like a tank and heavy as hell, killed my knees. Sold it and bought an alloy frame Dahon.

I think for the Swiss that is not a lot of money and for quality it's not bad.

A bike that doesn't depreciate over time like a car does? I'd say spending that money on a car is more a sign of madness than a Brompton.
