Brompton Pentaclip seatpost to saddle connector

Спорт

The Brompton Pentaclip - it's used for connecting the Brompton saddle to the Brompton seatpost
It has a clutch mechanism inside - plated which connect together to allow a large range of adjustment of the saddle angle etc
We made this video as sometimes it falls apart when trying to remove from a saddle - so this will help with re-assembly - this video providing instructions
It also shows how to remove / install from the seatpost and the saddle

Brompton should pay you a weekly salary for this video, Hannah! Every time my Pentaclip falls apart (which is every time I remove a saddle from the Pentaclip), this video is the only reason I ever manage to put it back together correctly. A link to this video should be stamped into every Brompton User Manual (which notably has NO instructions as to how to assemble the Pentaclip).

In my case, too, the parts of the Pentaclip fell apart (I have an "Advanced Pentaclip" on my P-Line, bought in 04/24)! Thanks to your video, after several attempts, I managed to put the parts back together. Nevertheless, I have to I confess that I had a lot of difficulties installing my new saddle (Ergon SM Pro Men): the saddle rails were very difficult to attach to the Pentaclip and required a lot of effort... in your video it looks much more effortless. I hope In any case, I didn't do anything wrong - after about 200 KM everything is fine...-;) Thanks again for this video (and for all the videos, which are always very educational and humorous)!

Thank you so much for this video!. I just bought a slightly used Brompton today and I was in the process of changing saddles when the assembly fell apart. Apparently, if you don’t reassemble the correct way it will not keep the saddle from tilting forwards or backwards no matter how much you tighten it. I was at my wits end until I watched this video and reassembled it correctly. Happiness is a properly secured saddle on your new bike. Ben from Canada.

Thanks to this video, specifically the part where all the seat post parts were laid out, I was able to find the missing pieces after my cat ran through my work area and sent everything flying. Two pieces were found in the bottom of a bag full of spare parts haha! I now have a new Fizik Ariel 3D printed saddle on my Brompton and next week I'll find out if 3D printed saddles really are more comfortable. They made it more spongy where the sit bones go and harder in the middle and softer up at fhe very front of the saddle.

The 3d printed saddle looks good but only about the same level of comfort as the original Brompton saddle. Also maybe not as good in the rain as water could collect like a sponge in all the holes in the 3d printed saddle.

I should have seen this when I would change the bolt to titanium as an early measure. I had difficulty in finding a purpose for all those loose parts, which seemed absolutely unnecessary? I soon changed to a lighter and more effective Chinese clamp and presently I use a printed saddle with an oval frame, and a new, red Chinese clip for that. My bike has reached 8,5 kilo and still with my mudguards. And with change of the clamps on those to - Carbon and Alu (They are made from Heavy Metal, even on a Superlight!), I do expect to reach close to 8 kilo, also some extra brake parts changed for that! One continuity error in the demo is at 5.07 the demo shows pentaclip fitted in the upper position but when the saddle is turned at 5.18 the pentaclip has already been modified to the lower position. Unfortunately the video does not show fitting the pentaclip to the rails in the lower position which is the more difficult of the two positions. Had lots of difficulty fitting it. Eventually by turning the logo portion through 90 degrees it allowed the rails to flex more and snap it all in.

  • @davidrowe8747

    @davidrowe8747

Yes, I noticed the same thing - you do notice it when you've tried it this way and realise it is so much more difficult. Also, with some saddles, if you fit the Pentaclip above the rails ("inside"), you can't reach the bolt to tighten it, because the saddle side covers it (not all saddles, but many).

I’ve put it in the right position, with the logo to the back, but I’ve realized the in the right position I can’t pul the saddle so much far to the handle at that in the backwards position (with the logo to the front). thanks so much! that saved me from a lot of trouble! Btw would it be possible to reverse the clip to create a longer distance from the seat to the handlebar?

@@brilliantbikes I did it yesterday, eventually. It does work, but the pentaclip rests less flush on the rubber rings below it. the saddle rail holders rest on it in an angle. I’m not an engineer so i’m not sure if the different position creates forces in the wrong directions, but I could not discover any problems. Probably worth mentioning that i’m not extremely heavy; about 70 kg. And the longer distance from saddle to handlebar is a relief for my back. So, yey 🥳

Thanks for the informative video. This really helps. The only issue is when you set the saddle rail to Pentaclip in a lower position I can’t snap or slide it in as the screw is getting in the way. I need to partly disassemble, hold it and put in the screw once in position. Is there a better idea?

No wonder mine kept tilting the previous owner had one too many copper washers and one two many of the silver spring washers in the mix!

Is there a reason you can’t run the pentaclip ‘backwards’ to achieve more saddle setback. Even with it fully back on the rails, the saddle feels too far forward

Greeting from Georgia, US. Best damn pentaclip video. As a fairly new Brompton owner it really helped. My LBS screwed it up.Have to buy a new one but at least I know why seat keeps slipping. They put it together in wrong order. Thanks so much and you guys keep it real with the bloopers.

Do you know why there are so many parts? I understand the washers on the screw, but those FCP, MCP, RP? Couldn't they just be one unibody RP piece instead of 5 pieces?

I am a short person with not so long arms. I wonder if we can flip the pantaclip upside down (the bike sing is upside down) so that the chair can be closer to the handlebar. is it possible ?

If you flip it so the brompton logo faces front that would move your saddle further back would it not, I dont think you can get your saddle any further forward unless you move it further than the recommend max marks on the rails

A rather fiddly design for their Pantaclip, not like the rest of the superb Brompton idea, they have over complicated its construction. Without this video, it would have taken some time to figure out how the thing went back together. It works well, but does not need so many parts.

Obviously most folk are not good at solving simple problems lol. It is a bit of a gimmick for a seat adjuster. By the way I have one too. I prefer the other style

Several Chinese firms make clamps which are much more simple and lighter, using wedges in a ring. Among those AceOffix and H&H. Finn. Denmark
