Broken Straight Razor Restoration From 1963
Broken straight razor restoration from 1963. Today I restore a vintage razor from year 1963. The blade and the handle are both broken. But I will fix it and make this jewel beautiful and really sharp again.
This straight razor comes from a friend who owns an antique store here in Europe. He knows that I like these kinds of restorations, so he didn’t hesitate to send it to me.
RESTORATION PROCESS
With this straight razor it’s straight forward. I de-mounted the handle and removed the rust with 12% vinegar. I started by removing the broken part of the bade there after I hand grinded the blade with grit 1000/1500. After that I polished the blade with my Dremel 3000. As compound I used ultra-cut/ultra-gloss. I did choose to Nickel plate the blade to protect it from rust in the future. For the handle I used some very hard dark wood from Africa. And Finally I sharpened the razor on water stone grit 400/1000/3000/8000 and finished it on a leather strap.

First, awesome job... Now, I know this is off topic but my best friend shared this with me and I just have to share... Hope it makes sense... This jesus of Nazareth, NAZARETH, NOT BETHLEHEM, isn’t who everyone thinks he is... Let's let this jesus HIMSELF tell you exactly who he is... Let's let this jesus tell you, HIMSELF, who he is... John 18:5 "Jesus of Nazareth," they replied. "I am he," Jesus said. Revelation 22:16 “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, the Bright and MORNING STAR.” This "jesus of NAZARETH", NOT "jesus of Bethlehem", HIMSELF says he's "SON OF DAVID", NOT YaH and Mary (Joseph) AND he's the "MORNING STAR", he's LUCIFER The MORNING STAR is LUCIFER - (Hebrew Isaiah 14, Leviticus 16) Here is the REAL Messiah, Who they REALLY Crucified for the sins of man Yad He Vav He is what Moses wrote (Dead Sea Scrolls Exodus 3), not "I Am" OR "God" Yad = Hand He = Breath Vav = Nail He = Breath Yad He, which forms The Creators Name YaH, (Hand Breath), as YaH's Hand Forms/Creates and His Breath brings forth life (Adam) Vav He (Nail Breath), YaH's Sacrifice of Crucifixion, for those who call YaH Savior, His Breath brings forth life YaH arrives via the Tent of Meeting (Exodus 33:7:11), the exact same way YaH arrived to Joseph NOT through childbirth. YaH was NOT Crucified on a "cross", but according to Hebrew law (Deuteronomy 21), to be nailed on an Almond Tree for blasphemy as the Messiah claimed He was YaH. He was YaH, NOT this "jesus" HalleluYaH means "Praise YaH", that's what HalleluYaH means, NOT Hallelujesus people. When you pray, pray to YaH, call out His Infallible, Holy and Sacred Name. There's your Savior
@yxng2335

Darrell Moore yep, they changed the scriptures and rewrote it. Jesus is not God, he is the man who is preaching Gods word. Thanks for this though, it was very informative. Also sacrificing someone on a cross is a satanic ritual so that could mean another thing, they sacrificed some other man and tricked people into believing that was Jesus.
@Praise___YaH
4 жыл бұрын
Yxng 23 Exactly... HalleluYAH means “Praise YaH”, YaH The Heavenly Father, yet most EVERYONE sits around praising this “jesus”. It’s YaH’s Creation, YaH’s Kingdom and it was YaH HIMSELF Who they Crucified for the sins of man and YaH arrives via the Tent of Meeting, not childbirth... How is that so hard for them to understand??? It’s so simple and yet they try to make it so very hard

As a career videographer starting in tv news then corporate communications, I am so respectful of your style of filming. You clearly understand what is “filmic”. Transitions, sound(birds, lightning, process noise), your subscribe surprises, sense of humor, zero dialogue (except oohs and oho’s), and camera movements are all reasons your subscription rate is so high. Oh, and the restorations are interesting too. What can’t you do? From vikings to Toy Story. Your fantastic Zippos and odd tools. Bravo!

"Ведь от "Столичной" голова, под утро не бодлит" с настольгией посмотрел творчество по восстановлению БРИТВЫ. В середине прошлого века у Бати была такая, на дверном косяке висел кожаный ремень, который служил правкой для лезвия. Хоть мне было запрещено брать её в руки, я конечно тайком брал, и всегда мечтал, что у меня будет такая, но увы. Не случилось. Автору спасибо! За труд, за память...

That's a pretty good effort. If you ever do another here are some tips (I've restored over 20 straight razors over the years). Where you reprofiled the tip leave a small curve 2mm radius) at the tip/toe of the edge, this will reduce the chance of cuts when used. When sharpening put two layers of electrical tape on the spine and allow it to rest gently on your wet stone. This will give you the correct angle at the edge. Use a criss-cross motion on the stone with light pressure to ensure full coverage of the edge. Go all the way up to the 8K grit before moving on to a paddle strop with 1 micron lapping paste, then 0.5 micron paste as you did with your strop in the vid. Touch up on a plain leather or chalk impregnated linen strop. This will give you a scary sharp edge, and with practice you will get the best shaves you have ever experienced
@AwesomeRestorations

thanks a lot for your comment - you are a real razor pro 👍
@wormhole331

Ideally you want the spine to contact the stone when honing because razors are designed to have the best bevel angle when spine and bevel are flat on the stone and plus makes stropping easy because you just keep the spine on the strop and rotate. But I use kapton tape when setting a bevel to reduce spine wear. It's super thin and tough.
This dude is awesome. He's super skilled, he's got dope ink and he doesn't have that annoying high energy and loud demeanor that youtubers have. The videos are entertaining and genuinely interesting. Cool stuff man.

I'm not sure if someone has said it already but your razor was made by STIZ, a contraction of "Zavod Stalnyh Izdeliy" (Factory of Steel Goods), located in Moscow. This factory began operating at 1938 on the former site of another Moscow plant, the Factory №9 of Mosshtamp Trest. STIZ made straight razors until the middle of 1980's, when the production was finally stopped due to waning demand. All their razors made from 1950 up to 1972 have the year of manufacture stamped on them. Blades produced after 1972 have no stamped date. It seems you got the Osobaya model, meaning "Special". I personally shave with a Trud Vacha (the other major Soviet straight razor manufacturer) Oka from 1956, so this restoration was greatly appreciated by me. Well done!

Автору огромная благодарность за его прекрасно выполненную реставрацию! Показал данный ролик деду, он вспомнил свою такую же бритву, когда он служил в армии, вспомнил те года, молодость, а в конце пустил скупую слезу. Спасибо! 👏
Yes we picked the same piece of wood, I think its psychologic thing. Its darker and seems better than others. Whatever nice video

Nice job, little advice you can’t shave with that edge. You charged the geometry when you used that guide. That guide is at like 22 -25 degrees a straight edge is like 7. The blade and spine laying flat on the stone will give you the proper bevel. Starting with a 1000 grit to set the bevel is enough then progress to 3000, 5000 , 8000, and finish with 12000. Hope that helps. The work is next level awesome.

It was it when he used the c4h14nio8 to electroplate the blade? I’d don’t realize that was the same as nickel plating.

@MRoberts I was a Chem nerd back in high school. For Christmas one year I asked my Chem Teacher to help me with a gift for my dad. It was an old Knife from WW2. I came over to his house on a Saturday and he helped me nickel plate the blade and gold plate the pummel and guard.
