    Allegedly they laid out plans to finally fix it a few years ago since Pandora is open now so that will pull guests away from Everest. Now that they're closed for the foreseeable future they might just knock it out now.

    Problem with the shutdown of the parks is no employees are allowed to be there for at least 2 weeks to work on repairs and like the DLR that only gives a few days without guests to cram in repairs which is if the weather allows them to do the repairs

    Something about the ice machine has such a mysterious allure to me. Maybe its the fact that the effect was only on for a few months so very few witnessed it? Maybe its the fact that the rusted corpse of the apparatus itself was never removed and thus is hidden above you in the ceiling as you enter, like a vengeful ghost. Either way I always find myself unconciously looking for the ice-chute hole when you turn that corner!

    @@MrEmerys89 Nope. Never got fixed. The explanation has always been that because the glass panels are so large, they would have to remove a section of the roof to slide it out. I'm sure that with this refurb, we would have noticed if the roof was gone or if there was a giant glass panel awaiting installation. As for it having been done before, again, nope. I saw it back in January when it was still open just prior to refurbishment.

I first went Disneyland in 1996, and (aside from waiting in line over 2 hours for Indiana Jones), I remember the "reveal" each time we went on, as we would finally see which door our ride vehicle was going through. Not only did the machine rust, but the 18 second effect demand on it resulted in most of the ice looking like brown slush rather than broken chunks of stone. The machine was shut down and left on top of the show building for years to continue rusting. I think it was eventually removed. Nice vid, sir :)

    The moving walls was moved by cables, then the cables snapped. The company that built the moving walls and cables that made the walls moved went out of business and Disney would have to be the one who had to repair it and repairing it would be very expensive. So they thought it would be cheaper if they abandoned it and let special affects do it for them.

    I still remember getting to see the Yeti actually move once upon a time, so incredibly long ago... It was huge and impressive. I'm at least happy that I got to witness it once. (': ...Maybe Disney will fix the yeti with some of that Avatar money they'll be making soon. (;

    as someone (a UK resident at that!) fortunate enough to see the yeti in motion it makes me so sad that it can’t run anymore.... it truly was INSANE and SCARY and felt so massive and loud and real and by far the best animatronic ever (in my opinion) - I was 13 at the time and it blew my tiny British mind. It really breaks my heart that not every disney fan will be able to experience it (at least for now).

    Also, the mirrors on the Indiana Jones Adventure were there to allow guests to see the vehicle in front of them (without looking directly into the eyes of Mara), ostensibly to observe the "gift" those preceding guests got which, in theory, would differ from the one they were about to be granted.

    I love the indiana jones ride! Almost tied with rise of the resistance as my favorite ride. Really wish indiana jones ride got a refurbishment adding back old effects and maybe even adding in some new ones. I know in one of the Disney's outside of the U.S. has a very cool fireball effect. But, I think it would be awesome if it got a refurbishment because it already is a 11/10 ride.

    "...and that guy is a jerk." From what I've read, that guy is a hero, as the canoe and Tiki were being stored in a boneyard, and Disney had plans on just throwing them away. When this was discovered, that unnamed cast member rescued the Tiki. The canoe was then thrown away as intended. Even if we never publicly see her again, at least wherever she is, is better than being at the bottom of a California dump.

    Why did the “rocks” need to be made of ice? If they’d been little grey foam “rocks”, couldn’t the machinery cycle it around without rusting? Also, you wouldn’t even need the ice maker, so one less thing to worry about.

    With foam rocks it would be more difficult to collect because ice can just melt, although not fast enough

  • @WolfDShadow

    @WolfDShadow

    Universal used to have rocks falling on the studio tour like that and they can be unpredictable while falling which a ride like Indiana Jones would be needing to shut down hourly to re-gather all the runway rocks and that wouldn't be efficient to keep the line moving. Ice on the other hand melts so a heated area where it lands along with a drain makes for a quick cleanup but a ice machine wouldn't rust within a few months so clearly that was just a excuse to not have to make the ice rocks anymore.

  • @karamellcreme

    I remember standing in line for Indiana Jones its opening year, the line wrapped all the way out to Main Street. My sister and I diligently followed the decoder card and deciphered the symbols in line... just to get an advertisement for AT&T. It was slightly disappointing, but one of our family favorite movies was "A Christmas Story" and it was such a drink your Ovaltine moment we really couldn't dislike it that much. Pretty sure I still have the card they gave out somewhere, I need to find that.

    Long story but a funny one: The first time I went on Everest in 2012, I was so scared to see the yeti since I had seen it in Fetch With Ruff Ruffman, I actually locked my arm around the bar and put my face in my mom’s lap (yes, for the entire second half of the ride. You could not see me on the picture.) My mom later said that she didn’t see the yeti, just it’s red eyes and the footage of the ride we saw was the same. I went back to Disney in 2019 and decided to keep my head up as I was re-riding it. But I kept my eyes-closed (because anxiety, right). Then, I opened my eyes JUST as we passed under the yeti and I was like- “Oh no.” because a friend of mine is terrified of massively large animals, especially the yeti. My mom and I did not realize the animatronic was ACTUALLY THERE (luckily, my friend didn’t see). But heck, I didn’t know the yeti was broken so they did a good job at fooling me.

    They can actually switch which door but it's like they change it in the middle of the might during maintenance because since they stopped the random door swapping I have been through other doors but repeat rides the same day would be same door all day. It could have been they are working on getting it back up and running but middle door is default and they had planned to do a major overhaul on the ride this year during the refurbishment to make it look new again.
