Broken Femur Doesn't Stop Daniel Conklin: Video By NMPreps.com

Daniel Conklin, a senior running back at Centennial broke his femur bone late in the season last year against Hot Springs. After surgery, doctors told him that he would never play again. He has been cleared by doctors almost nine months later and with tons of heart and off-season rehab, Conklin will start for the Hawks again this coming fall.

In 2019, I fractured my femur in a road accident and it was dislocated. It's been a little more than 3 years and trust me I'm fit as a fiddle. Just 3 days back I had my basketball match in college and we won. It was my comeback after 3 years. The journey of course wasn't an easy one. I remember going through so much mentally n I swear it felt worse than the physical pain. But today I stand strong and eventually things will be fine. It's just a phase and trust me, it'll just make u so much stronger. The only advice that I would give through my experience is that exercise daily coz if you don't, it can cause stiffness. And most importantly please remove the plate or nail within 2-3 years or if ur doc says within a year then well n good. It all depends on ur reports. I feel so much better after removing the rod. At the end it's a foreign material. And the surgery is a minor one and within 2-3 weeks you'll be able to walk unlike the first surgery. Just stay strong and I wish you all well

@@JCastell1953 it depends on ur perseverance. I ignored physiotherapy which is so so important but i was able to walk with a limp after 2-3 months. Exercises in the water are so much more effective. Idk what u call it but u can definitely try. Because ur body feels light in the water, it's more helpful and effective.

Did you have surgery? I was hit off my motorcycle July 8th by a drunk driver speeding towards me in my lane on a two way road single lanes. Broken femur/tibula/fibula. Yes it will be growing stronger than before. Your leg will go through a remodeling phase which will make it stronger. It's been 4 months for me since my accident and i am walking a little but with 1 crutch to assist when i need it. I want to get back to fighting and competing in mma and don't let anyone tell you that you cannot do what you love again. Stay motivated and keep doing your physio therapy. For now you need to rebuild the muscle surrounding the bone! Good luck!

Hello man, I can assure you, if you bone has healed you will be able to, you would be able to pursue bodybuilding, you would be able to almost everything though with minor aches and itches but that won't have any impact on your functionality. Just stay strong, times are hard. After 6 months is just a start need roughly 18 months at least in my case i broke a femur in road traffic accident scattered into pieces first surgery did not promote bone healing got a grafting done and from that point it has been a year now, I can run, jump, lift weights, squad , play cutting sports even , so stay strong and make sure u eat well take salmon, sardine, milk, yougurt, and for the time being do upper body workout , i joined gym on a wheelchair in my 4 month to stay strong hehe , life goes on , stay strong u are almost there

So my right leg is shorter than the left and now I thought that my left leg would become short so that both legs would be even but unfortunately my left leg is normal. Super inspirational video, I'm happy for you!! I broke my femur a month ago and even if I was just gonna begin a three month skateboard and KZread vacation in Venice Beach I feel so blessed that today was my first 4 hour walk without even bringing a crutch. My trick to force myself to not limp is that I try to meet girls around the beach to walk with (and hopefully end up with a life partner sooner or later hehe) and when walking with a girl it would be too embarrassing to limp or slow us down so I kind of force myself to walk fast and as normal as I can and it gets much easier to do that when I focus on leading our conversation and focus less on the pain. :) To anyone struggling to recover my advice is to crutch walk with as normal walking pattern as possible (and walk in pools and things where you weigh less, but I didn't do that) and just keep moving and don't blindly follow doctors people who hold you back.

Lots of protein from Salmon, Sardines, cottage cheese, eggs, chicken. vitamin d3 pills, sunlight, vitamin C (red bell peppers, oranges) whey isolate and hydrolyzed collagen protein powders with almond milk, nuts like almonds pumpkin seeds and cashews. Greens like spinach and kale and take a good multivitamin. I also take capsules for bone health that include extra magnesium, calcium and vitamin d. White potatoes, avocado and bananas for potassium.

@Jacob Parmenter That's amazing progress, congrats. From what I understand, a person's age/medical history, the type of break and fixation method in surgery usually has a big effect on the recovery time. My femoral neck was completely fractured and 25% of the ball of my hip was shattered to pieces. They told me the pieces were removed and it should grow back. I'm about 2 1/2 months post op. I think I could probably start walking now, but am just practicing in the pool until I get the ok from my surgeon. I hear that people with intramedullary nail fixation usually can walk much quicker. I think they would have done that for me, if it wasn't for part of the ball joint being shattered beyond repair. I have a DHS (dynamic hip screw) attached to a plate on the outside of my leg/femur.

@@SonuPalaero For stress fractures I think the best thing you can do is keep weight off it, get a lot of sleep and get the diet and supplementation right. Of course, I am no doctor. My femoral neck was shattered but has joined completely after 3 months. It's now 4 months since my accident and I am walking 90% weight bearing with a cane. I was non-weight bearing for 3 months. Being in a swimming pool has helped me a lot since I started walking, I would practice walking backwards up the slope from the deep to shallow end. In two weeks I was walking with poor balance in the shallow end of the pool and doing squats there. My leg and hip are still a bit weak especially the quadricep but I will keep on my feet as much as possible now that everything is becoming easier and start trying more exercises along with doing step ups on the stairs.

@@SonuPalaero Mostly just what was in my first post but I did add in a quality fish oil and vitamin k2 supplement. I ate 3 meals a day during recovery aiming for 130-150 grams of protein each day. Now that the bone is stronger I will probably drop down to two large meals a day as I gained 20 lbs since my accident. Getting back to my normal weight should feel better and make it easier on my hip.

Dakota F The muscles will respond just do your physio. If you over work your muscles the muscle fibers would not bind and grow. This is a slow process mate i am still recovering so i know what you're going through. You will get better mate. Buy a Calcium pill for bone density and also protein powder. It helps with regrowth of muscle fibers and cells.
