Broken Bolts, EGR pipe removal & Oil catch can update.

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

We all encounter broken bolts at some point and there are various methods to deal with them. In this video I try out a bolt extractor tool (aka easy outs), but will it be strong enough to remove my rusty EGR pipe studs?
Last time I installed an oil catch can on the van, after 150 miles has it caught any oil?
Hopefully see you in the next one for some serious INLET MANIFOLD CLEANING!

    Well done Ollie another great video mate, I don't enjoy vlogs that are full of very technical jargon and expensive tools your videos are honest and easy to follow thank you.

    Thank you that’s really nice of you to say 😊The great thing about working on an older vehicle is there’s no need for the expensive tools and diagnostic equipment, it’s going back to basics. I love making these videos and it’s the feedback and support from my subscribers which motivates me to keep making them so thank you 👍🏼

    Good job. Just a tip though, there's no need to tap the tap into the hole as there's a chance you will loose some of the teeth. Just let the taper of the tap draw the tap into the hole, that's what the taper is there for. You can also get a plug tap that has no taper and this is for finishing the thread in a blind hole so the thread is cut the full depth. Really enjoy your content and look forward to your next video, many thanks.

    To be honest, I've never had much luck with those screw extractors. I'd probably have started with welding a nut on. The heat shock from the welding usually gets them loose - how quickly you heat it makes a difference, and there's not much quicker than a blast of MIG!

    I think that’s what I will do next time 👍🏼 never tried those bolt extractors before and I was pretty impressed with how much force I could get with them. I’m sure they will be useful for something one day! 😂

    You should’ve tried the easy outs after the 6mm drill. The thinner you can make the broken bolt vs the threaded hole the better chance you have.

    Cheers mate, it really wasn’t that bad just drilling and tapping. It’s nice that it’s got the room around the engine to work on it 😁 you wouldn’t get that with a modern van!

    Great videos Mate 👍 I've just bought my first Transit here in New Zealand. What is the benefit of blanking off the EGR valve? Love your work

  • @TurnersWorkshop97

    @TurnersWorkshop97

    Thanks mate, the main benefit for blanking the egr is to keep the inlet manifold clean. It’s worth giving the inlet manifold a clean first before installing a plate. Cleaning the soot out will improve the performance and give the engine better airflow and then blanking the egr will prevent it getting that dirty again. I made a separate video for cleaning and fitting the blanking plate 👍🏼

    Hi mate, I will be making a video shortly about doing the leak off pipe mod. This may help with the white smoke/ rough idling on startup.I also have the same problem with mine and I hope this will work if not it could be injector issues possibly. Cheers Ollie
