Yeah, mine's 9 years old and the plastic is looking brittle. Little leaks can develop so best to replace.

@@blackmothcustoms190K miles on my 2008 Volvo V50 2.0d (no DPF from factory) I have never replaced the EGR and I’ve had the car 9 years and 100K miles. Recently a vacuum pipe broke and it is now stuck closed, but of smoke on cold start & under sudden load / WOT… but otherwise no issues. She is returning 50mpg average over a tank of diesel (UK MPG not US gallons)…. Basically 550 miles for 45 litres of fuel. I would suggest to viewers to clean their EGRV if it is sticky… some driving under heavy load also helps “blow away the cobwebs@.

I dunno about replacing it. But at least clean the EGR system and try that. Just replacing the EGR hasn't solved your issue for long. The soot will build up in the valve within months and you'll have the same problem all over again. I suppose however, if you're a mechanic, replacing the valve and charging the customer for a full cleanout is a very lucrative scam!

I like the way hes says just clean EGR valve to get to mine is a mission!

If your going to go to all the trouble, to take it off, you might as well put a new one on, and be done with it. Cleaning it, sounds like a disappointment waiting to happen.

Ford Escape EGR has a mounting nut on the manifold tube, a 1 1/16" nut extremely difficult to get to and loosen.

What other warning lights that show the EGR valve failure beside engine light?

I found out that the mechanic who replaced the EGR valve cooler recently has canceled the vacuum hose from EGR valve! Since then i have a serious misfire on cylinder #1. I suspect my engine was damaged because of that!!! Any I thought on that?

Can I test a electronic egr by disconnecting it and test run it? Or it has to have an engine code to tell me it’s faulty? I’ve been having a acceleration problem rpms won’t go pass 2 when driving while speed climbs but slowly. Have taken it to a transmission shop to check it they said gears were keeping in.

great information! Have my suspicions either my valve is stuck closed or maybe a sensor issue on my old 1990 f-150. My other suspicion could be my MAP sensor. Check engine light came on. Recently just got the truck and my OB1-2 reader got stolen lol. So going to Oreillys tomorrow to read the codes. Interesting though the truck ran fine on the way home and I just noticed a small air hose was disconnected at the air box. My buddy thought it might be a PCV valve issue. As soon as I re-connected it ran like crap, especially throttling in 3rd and 4th gear. Interested to see what it ends up being. Thanks for the info!

Update: EGR sensor was unplugged and I suspect for a reason. Vacuum lines disconnected etc. Forced delete kit at this point. Not by choice. Running much better now that I've done some mods. Love Oreilly's

If the EGR valve is stuck open could it cause the truck to overheat on Lower speeds?

i just purchased a 2007 civic coupe and i kept hearing a loud exhaust leak,i find its the egr tube is not bolted to the bottom of the catalytic,does anyone know why they would have it disconnected? thanks

my 07 explorer, when idling at a stop, the rpms drop...starts to shake...feel like is struggling not to stall. sometimes the acceleration is not as responsive. had throttle body checked and cleaned, maf sensor checked and cleaned, new spark plugs and a general tune up. still the same. could a bad egr valve be the problem? this does not happen every time in idle. it is intermittent but has been happening more often than not lately.

yes, if its stucked at open position the MAF sensors signal will be incorrect and the mixture will be poor so the RPMs will jump and in extreme cases it could stall

Iv got a kia sportage 2010 diesel...when driving it runs OK but can change at anytime then I smell fuel in car and then I notice smoke coming out of exhaust a few minutes later it seems to clear it also seem to estitate when accelerating

Check the EGR passages, such as hoses or connection points

It can cause misfire and stalling when EGR valve is stuck open.

I got a Chevy impala 2005 and it has the code for egr valve, a guy told me to brea clean it and it should be ok but that didn’t work but looking at the egr it doesn’t seem to be getting stuck open or closed so I’m wondering if it could be something else causing the code

So I got an 89 ford probe gt and getting code 16 egr contain valve sensor and I have changed it and still comes up. Could it be the egr solenoids going bad and trying open as well?

Hi my Audi A3 diesel P048A00 code has come up exhaust pressure valve stuck closed which has now lead to dpf light on as well as no boost pressure on acceleration

Turn it off. It ruins engines.

While I really don't like the EGR valve, But I can see why it's there. But the thing needs regular cleaning. At least every 30,000Kms. In that way the thing won't cause major issues further down the track. But they don't tell you that in the manual now do they!!!

Any idea on why a oil top would pop off while driving it's a Dodge ram 08 it's a 5.7

This can be cause by a plugged PCV sytem, or more likely severe blowby, where combustion gasses blow the oil out of the crakcase and up to the valve covers. This could be cause by broken rings or severe wear. Not a good idea to drive the vehicle until you figure it out.

Did he say egr improves fuel mileage?

Just replaced my EGR. It was making it idle badly and run rough when cold.

I got the egr error code and my car is shaking like crazy when its idle but i took put the egr valve amd cleaned it (it already looked pretty clean) but that didn't help. Any suggestions. I have a 2010 belta/yaris.

19904.9 i6 bronco, Its alway idled nicely but after a few minutes of idle it'll suddenly drop down in rpms and almost dies then it swoops back up and idles fine again.Started running like crap under light acceleration, and smells like burnt chemical BBQ.

I have a 2010 1.6 TDCI Focus and my EGR is playing up, I lose torque going through the gears, if I stop the engine ane restart it right away it clears the issue for a few miles but always comes back. I had the EGR replaced 2 months ago and all was well but it's just started to happen again. Any ideas?

@@mickmcdonagh5747 I didn't, it is still happening. I had the EGR valve replaced and fuel filter. The problem is much better but when I go on the motorway after about 5 miles the torque goes, around town it's ok where it didn't used to be.

Does it have a EGR sensor as well on your vehicle and was it replaced? May also want to change your MAF or MAP or whatever you have. Going through similar symptoms to replace this week

I do have a MAF sensor which was quite oily which I cleaned up but haven't replaced. my car seems fine now unless I go on the motorway and after about 5 miles the torque goes again. I'm thinking of changing my car now so I don't want to spend any more money on it but thanks for your comment.

That's caused by turbo position sensor it's a small sensor on the back of the turbo they are common for going wrong on peugeot engines, which is fitted to the focus

Would egr issues trigger Bank 1 oxygen sensor 1 to foul?

Let me just take it off clean it and put it back on. Just dealing with crank no start issues sometimes takes 2 cranks sometimes with stop and start it takes 70 cranks total. Possibly injection or fuel pump or clogged filter.

Update fuel pump in the tank has a built in regulator that's leaking can toggle the key 5 to 8 times and it will build enough pressure to start. Once running has never stalled. Checked fuel pressure at the line into fuel rail and it never held. Changed injectors too as 5 of the 6 were leaking badly so flooding 5 cylinders. Wet plugs. Also found there was no egr on this model 2002 Town and Country lx. Just a plug.

Great video. I’ve have these symptoms and been told it’s stuck open and needs replacing. Can you remove the EGR altogether? Is it still legal cause you can buy EGR delete kits..

It's illegal in the State to delete the EGR.

EW10J4 PEUGEOT 2004 EXECUTIVE 406 PETROL My obd2 scanner only gave me one fault code P0403 code EGR circuit malfunction. I have had this car for 1 year and there has always been a strong fuel smell. The car has been driving excellent but now it has the engine warning light and the ANTIPOLLUTION FAULT display. It seems there are only 2x 13mm bolts holding the EGR down. Is it possible to use brakecleaner or wd40 to clean the valve or is carb cleaner the only option.
