Whatever tragedy that befall you, use it positively to get back up and keep moving. Get angry, get determined to do something for yourself. His coach saw a player who had so much more than he was giving to the team, that out of frustration he kicked him. Some people who can be winners, hold back. I quit football after my coach yelled at me for wasting his time. I didn't know that I wasn't giving my team my best and didn't know why

I get it. I used every broken heart I got as fuel for my drumming. And believe me I've had my heart broken more than a few times.

Tom Platz was always one of my all-time favorite bodybuilders and certainly after hearing some of his philosophies he is even more impressive. I loved all of those guys when I was growing up starting to work out in high school. There were many greats, but whenever I saw an article with Tom or photos of his physique you knew you were witnessing something very special, awe inspiring.

The real 1981 Mr Olympia

Tom Platz was intense! I remember as a teenager I had a poster of him on my wall in my home gym along with other bodybuilders of the 70’s and 80’s

he should have won an olympia! A great man who used full powers of mind to go forth!!

Tom Platz impresses me as one of the more Philosophical and Emotionally Driven Bodybuilders ever - which is an interesting combination. The guy is the 'Patron Saint of Positive Energy'. His Enthusiasm and Drive is Infectious.

Tom should have won Mr. Olympia at least once. He was in better shape than the winner many times.

This is why I always root for the underdog. Phil Collins best work was after losing at love. Einstein said he was no smarter than anyone else, he just worked harder at solving problems. Amazing archival video brah.

I did the same. All the hatred, prejudice I encountered as a child from adults, teachers etc..ostracism from classmates - I put toward succeeding in UWM. Since I couldn’t join them I beat them and became top student in every class but one. (Class sizes of 300 or more at university.)Glad to here Tom Platz story and the wonderful success of “Quadzilla” . ! Keep working hard !😅

Tom never had the nickname "Quadzilla" It was Paul Demayo. Tom was called the "Golden Eagle".

Thank you for posting! I met Tom Platz about 11 years ago when and he was a great guy. He gave me an interview for college paper I was doing and was as kind and generous with his time, as could be. Very humble and motivating man.

Tom is my peer group my exercise group inspiration, Golden Eagle sir you changed my life ...I`m 57 now.

I absolutely love Tom. I can’t believe his training buddy would betray him like that. Men understand, men know, don’t play stupid.

Tom Platz gave me bodybuilding advice while at the urinal at the first Arnold Classic. Very down to earth guy. He as, for me, one of the true greats. His legs made all other legs look like sticks.

What was the advice?

I remember in the late 70s guys at the gym passing around a photo of him doing a thigh pose. No one had ever seen anything like it before.

Great insight and so true…turn something negative that happens into motivation to accomplish positive things in your life…it makes you stronger and gets you closer to your goals, whatever they may be!

I'm at Mr Platz at either the Mr Universe or the Olympia in 79 or 80. I always liked seeing him compete and those quads are outstandingly incredibly impressive obviously!
