This is probably a stupid point but I have a hard time believing in a period where everyone used bows, swords, axes, knives, rocks, spears, etc., to kill each other, that Brock would have any particular advantage. If he did have an advantage it wouldn’t have been that big of one. When you have force multipliers and very pointy weapons , the fact that someone is significantly bigger/stronger than you becomes much less relevant.

In 1999, as a college senior at the University of Minnesota, I got into an elevator at the 4th street parking garage with a then-relatively-unknown Brock Lesnar. I didn’t follow U of M wrestling, and because he was so immense in a Gophers track suit, I thought maybe he was a football player, or maybe a shot-putter or something. As the doors closed and the elevator started going up, I couldn’t help but gaze at him up and down (I was 6’2 and a skinny 170 back then). The physical presence of this guy kind of startled me. And the fact that we were essentially trapped in this small space together …it was the most intimidating person I’d ever been that close to. He noticed me looking at him and sort of gave me a lazy, dirty look (like the expression of a disapproving silverback). I think I probably stared at my own shoes for the rest of that elevator ride. 😂 Anyway, I told everyone I knew about this encounter (like I’d seen a grizzly bear in the wild) and no one ever seemed appropriately impressed.

Even back then, there were kids that their fathers were grooming them to be professional athletes (For sports like Baseball and Football but they would also play Greco-Roman) and already had them on PEDs/GEAR. One of them even opened up to me in detail about it and I actually felt really sad for him, it sounded like a miserable life. The sort of thing where the Father is trying to live through the Son type of deal, really sad to see. Brock already at this was point was on something, you can tell, even at States after a huge win no one gets up and starts flexing madly at the crowd in the celebration, he had something extra in him.

I remember 7th grade in Skyview Middle school, Oakdale, Minnesota. There was a Minnesota Gophers wrestling poster in the office of our boys locker room, near where the wrestling coach had a desk. At the time, I was super impressed with the team’s physique.. I was just a skinny young man. These wrestlers were all shirtless, flexing, and the photo was taken in the snow. All their cheeks looked cold but they appeared fearless and unbothered. And there was this REALLY wide, strong, intimidating blonde guy with a boxy head.. I wondered who he was. It was the strangest and most surreal thing that years later… this same guy from the wrestling poster was in the MMA, and contending for a world championship. Funny how pieces sometimes come together like that.
