    This video was a lifesaver! I accidentally ordered an LG unit without Wi-Fi and needed a solution(well aircon guy fuceked up and did not listen carefully that I wanted same model as my other unit). I could either get a module or SmartIR for control, or pay the steep installation costs to replace the unit. I really wanted a smart air conditioner, and this video helped me figure it out.

    Excellent video. Having the option to control my Heat Pump within Home Assistant, and being able to integrate it with all my Shelly devices is my only reason to try out Home Assistant. After having seen your video I'm ready to give it a go. Now i just need to figure out how you accessed the .yaml and uploaded to the config folder :) I am on windows, so as such i don't "mount" stuff. Guessing i have to install Samba server integration i HA, and the just use my favorite editor to edit the .yaml :) Once again thanks - Intel NUC i5 here I come.

    I'd probably recommend just installing the (Visual Studio) Code Server Add-On and using the VSCode interface to modify your config files. This video is a little old so a few things might've changed since I shot it and you mightn't need to modify YAML at all, though I can't say definitively. I might have to revisit this topic.

    Then unfortunately, for the SmartIR Method, you're going to be out of luck. I don't quite recall how, but you can put the Broadlink into "Learning" mode and it'll capture the codes sent by your remote. Details can be found here: www.home-assistant.io/integrations/broadlink/ From there you can enter the individual codes into your automations, or if you want to contribute back to the code, you could raise a Git Issue, or a Pull Request with the SmartIR Developer.

I don't understand how to add the IR commands of an air conditioner in the HA automations. the command json file is structured with a hierarchical scale, example: "commands": { "cool": { "auto": { "18": "JgBmAGg1DwwPCw8nDgwPJg8MDwwPCw8mDycPCw8MDwsPJw8mDwsPDA8MDwsPDA8LDwwPDA4MDwwPCw8MDwwOJw8LDwwPDA4MDwwPCw8MDyYPDA8LDwwPDA8mDwsPDA8MDwsPDA8LDwANBQ==", how do i write this code in the action of the automatism? thank you

  • @HiveMindAutomation

    @HiveMindAutomation

    I wouldn't recommend trying to use the raw commands in the actions of automations for a couple of reasons: 1) it's prone to errors 2) it's a pain to re-use I'd recommend using the SmartIR plugin and calling Climate Services for example: description: "BEDROOM - Set AC to 18º at 9PM" mode: single trigger: - platform: time at: "21:00:00" condition: [] action: - service: climate.turn_on data: {} target: entity_id: climate.bedroom_ac - service: climate.set_temperature data: temperature: 18 hvac_mode: cool target: entity_id: climate.bedroom_ac

There is a Broadlink unit that includes RF control, but that doesn't mean it's on the correct RF band, and decoding the messages is going to be the hard part. there might be a Repository on github or somewhere that has details of the codes you need

    Smart IR should work with any IR Blaster that can receive MQTT Commands. I've Seen an Arlec Grid Connect unit at Bunnings here in Australia, and that would be Tuya Enabled, but to be honest, I'd avoid trying to integrate anything Tuya into Home Assistant. My Experience with the Tuya Integration has been pretty poor. Hi Stu, I was wondering if you ever dipped your toes into Ceiling Fans and SmartIR? Living in the tropics we use them a lot. I have a DC Mercator Ceiling Fan in my lounge room. It uses a 433MHz remote with 6 speeds and a stop. I have used Broadlink app and developer in HA to generate the required codes. I currently run scripts the use the remote.send_command from the Broadlink RM4 Pro to the Fan. I use automations that are triggered by temperature sensors to stop and decide what speed command to send. I have looked at the existing Models in the fan doco compared the coded to mine but none seem similar to the eye anyway This process is simple and works but I was wondering if you had any experience with doing your own codes and running SmartIR fan? Thanks Update: later in the day I was able to copy codes from ".storage" con my HA for the Broadlink remote for the Mercator Eagle Fan. It appears the are b64. I only did codes for forward as I never use reverse. I based my .json file on the 1000 id as it had 6 speeds plus off. Anyway it worked so I thought I would let you know. If you want more details let me know.

    i had this working since years. Few months ago i found it not working anymore. Everything is as your guide, besides the ir remote name in HA is remote.ir_salotto (i dont have the _remote in the name, because the integration didn't add it) in the smartir definition i tried both remote.ir_salotto and remote.ir_salotto_remote but when calling the send command from developer tools, it always give me unknown error, and in the log i see, in order: - Referenced entities remote.ir_salotto_remote are missing or not currently available - Failed to call remote.send_command: Command not found: 'on' - websocket_api script: Error executing script. Unexpected error for call_service at pos 1: Command not found: 'on'

    so Command not found 'on' pretty much just means there's no such command as "on" in the remote definition. when you're using remote.send_command you need to send the base64 encoded command. i.e. for a Fujitsu Aircon like in my video, to turn on the heater to 22ºC with the fan set to "High", I'd need to send: "JgAEAWQyDAwMDAwlDAwMJQwMDAwMDAwlDCUMDAwMDAwMJQwlDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMJQwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDCUMDAwMDAwMDAwlDCUMJQwlDCUMJQwlDCUMDAwMDCUMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDCUMJQwMDAwMJQwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwlDAwMDAwlDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwlDAwMDAwMDCUMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDAwMDCUMDAwMDAwMJQwMDCUMJQwMDAwMDAwADGgNBQ" If you've setup SmartIR, it exposes your target device as a climate or fan or media_player entity depending on the device you setup with it. So then to turn on the AirCon, you call the service with - in my case: service: climate.turn_on target: entity_id: climate.bedroom_ac data: {}
