My husband will have 13 years sober this year. That choice has changed so much for the better.

Self awareness is very important!! Kudos to you Brittney for finding other ways to cope with your issues. I too transitioned to no alcohol back in 2022. The last two years were ruff for me. And felt like I was using alcohol as an escape goat! (Rather that’s dealing with my anxiety while I’m out at parties or event. Or I’m just stressed with life, or sometimes using it for liquor courage to say my true thoughts). Plus I always felt pressured to drink because all my friends did. But I didn’t like the feeling of not having control over my body & not being aware of my surroundings. Plus hang overs are mf’er!! 😩 And I just didn’t want to deal with that anymore. At first everybody made me feel lame for not drinking. But now I think everybody has come to terms with my decision & they respect my choice. It’s been a long journey. But I’ve done a lot of self reflection, therapy. And I’m slowly learning to deal with my problems head on. (I don’t have to use alcohol or my phone shy away at parties anymore. I give my self a pep talk & learn to blend in. 😌🤌🏽 and thanks you I’ve discovered a lot of non alcoholic wines & mock tails so I appreciate the recommendations.

It’s sad that alcohol is so normalized in our society, yet it’s just as bad (if not worse) than hard drugs. When I was 5, my mom used to drink to socialize just like Brit (and most of society). One day she had a little too much at an event that we were at, and we got into a car crash. I’d hit my forehead on the dashboard (yes, I was in the front seat. This was the 90s, so it was a different time lol) from the impact and the windshield had broken. Glass cut me on the bridge of my nose, directly between my eyes. Ended up having to get several stitches due to the cut being so deep. Still have the scar as an almost 30yr old adult. That accident was my Moms wake up call and she stopped drinking, cold turkey. I’m so grateful to God that the glass missed my eyes or else I would’ve had one or both eyes blinded. Because of the accident, I grew up in a household in which no one drank (or smoked) as their vice. I think this is why I ended up continuing that path within my own life since I don’t drink much (maybe 5 times a year) and never smoke. I’m proud of Brit for making this change in her life. Keep at it!

Thank you sooo much for sharing!!! I agree that sometimes it seems like drinking is the only activity encouraged in adulthood.
