We bake in multiple tins in Canada and so does America but sometimes you want even thinner layers for a 6 or 7 layer cake or something which is where that gadget would come in handy. Mayonnaise and Miracle Whip are two different things. Miracle Whip has some different seasonings and is also lower in fat apparently. Canadians call mayo mayo too! And yeah, back in the day things really were just a dollar but inflation right? Still pretty good deals though mostly.

@@JoDee172 correct, Miracle Whip is nothing like mayonnaise, it’s very sweet, unlike mayonnaise. I like it on sandwiches (I don’t fancy it in salads though), but otherwise I use real mayonnaise, only Hellman’s. Here in America, Dollar Rama is called Dollar Tree. The color scheme and set up looks similar so maybe the same company? I love going there for Christmas bags, tins and boxes, such a bargain. On the news earlier this year they said things were going up in price and not everything would be one dollar anymore but they’re still my go to shop for certain things. Name brand foods will also pack their product for store brands, so the crackers that looked like Ritz might actually be Ritz. Canned veggies also do this. A lot of dollar stores have prices that are larger than a dollar. Remember, inflation hits everyone. Americans bake cakes in two pans too. That cake cutter would be used if you were making more than two layers. You need to try a Smith Island cake, from Smith Island, Maryland. Their cakes have a dozen layers (or thereabouts).

J&L, around 2 decades ago, when dollar stores here were suddenly popping up everywhere, all their stuff really was a dollar. When Dollarama, a chain of stores, opened up back then, everything in there literally was a dollar there too, but the company name they came up with then is their name today, even though selling anything for a dollar is no longer possible. Misleading I know, but at the beginning, their name really met the expectations. Even in the small mom 'n' pop shops that are "dollar" stores couldn't survive now if they kept everything at a dollar today in 2021. Everyone here understands that, the sad reality of inflation, even though of course we'd all be happier with the old original prices, but I image as a tourist, they're be no reason to expect that or know. Having said that, they're still the low-end, go-to bargain stores that everyone can count on that sells at lower prices than regular stores.

Yeah, dollar store is just euphemism for discount outlets now. Dollar General is probably the largest franchise in the U.S. now. They've expanded rapidly over the last five years. You can basically find one in any town not big enough to have a Walmart and or Target and even in those towns you'll find Dollar Generals, multiples depending on the size of the town or city. And believe it not sometimes you can actually find them selling things at a higher price than what Walmart has on the same item.

To understand Dollarama. You have to understand depreciation. Basically , you own a store and anything you don’t sell depreciates. When that price falls below the price the business has calculated the shelf space cost. The product is sold to a Dollar store. Please forgive me that’s a very rough and clumsy description of how it’s done but the basic idea. Now Dollarama also carries its own products , which are new to them. I was thinking you guys would make a trip to Dollarama eventually. They sell the cheapest Acetaminophen you will find. Which is why I stated earlier that they call Acetaminophen, Paracetamol in the U.K.

This was fun, and I love you guys. Some notes: I am constantly seeing stuff at my Dollar Tree that's $3-4 elsewhere. Example : Gallon of bleach there : $1. Walmart brand bleach : $2.49. Frankly, I'm not that fussy about cleaners; I don't need Vera Wang designer bleach. As for those tinned pastas, kids love them; your past 5 year old selves would've adored them. Even broke college students often eat them. My store even has sun dried tomatoes, quinoa and parchment paper. You often find brand names, just smaller sizes for say, cereal. Which can be convenient, if kids like different kinds. Those gloves stretch so much the Hulk could wear toddler gloves. And value? I bought a little nightlight there for $1 when I was 8, and sixteen years later I'm still using it. Every night.

Actually, we only have one federal law that makes it mandatory to have both English and French on all consumer products, but the English is usually above the French. One province, Quebec, which is mostly French-speaking, has laws stipulating that all stores/businesses and public signs must have either only French on them, or if they're bilingual, the French portion must be larger and more prominent than the English. That, however, isn't the case in the rest of Canada.

While there are Dollar Tree & Dollar General stores in the USA, near me there had been a store called Five Below which I believe had everything for under $5.00. I believe that it probably went in 20 years ago or maybe even more but I never went in.

In the U.S. everything's a dollar at "The Dollar Tree."..except during the Christmas shopping season. They will have a lot of items they don't usually carry...like toys, gift sets, and make-up kits, etc. Those items will usually cost more than a dollar. However, they would still (more than likely) be a lot cheaper.. compared to other chains known for affordable pricing, such as Walmart. I'm from So. Cal., but I'm sure in Nashville or Orlando you would also have better luck shopping there.

It was called Dollarama back in the day when everything was one dollar. Now, with inflation, it can be 2 or 3 bucks, but most stuff is still $1 (which is 61p). Have you never been to a Poundland in the UK? Not everything is still £1. Some things can be £10, which is $16.32 Canadian.

Miracle Whip is not legally (USDA FDA) mayonnaise because it contains sugar and spices not original to the egg, vinegar, and oil thing. It's technically a "dressing" and cannot be sold as mayonnaise in the US and probably elsewhere.

What nobody else seems to have mentioned about Miracle Whip is that the US Food and Drug Administration regulates certain food labels. It defines "mayonnaise" as having a certain range of fat content. Miracle Whip is below the minimum, so it can't legally be labeled "mayonnaise". BTW, could you stop whinging about dollar stores costing more than a dollar? Originally, everything really did cost a dollar, but these chains have been around for decades and, y'know, inflation? You might argue that they should rebrand, but as a brand yourselves I'm sure you can imagine how costly that would be. Besides, rebranding would wipe out all their name recognition and make them start over building custom. They're still the cheapest shops around and it's fun to shop there, so lighten up, ok?

Then third we have FAMILY DOLLAR. Both Dollar General and Family dollar are NOT a dollar. They have various prices the last two store. But Dollar Tree its all a dollar and the 99cent store , everything is 99 cents. All store charge a tax except on food in most states.

There’s a poorer town that had a shopping plaza that burned down and it seemed that they didn’t rebuild it for 20 years or so & when they finally did rebuild (which also took a long long time but came out looking really nice) they put in a auto parts store and a dollar store as the 2 main flagship stores but this community already had both type store in an older shopping plaza 5 minutes down the same road. It seemed a shame that they didn’t have different types of stores. These were just new although they weren’t the same companies/corporations.

Dollar Tree in the US is now $1.25, which is $1.68 Canadian. We have dollar trees in Canada, too, but if you limit everything to only $1 Canadian (74 cents US) the selection is not going to be as interesting. All about world inflation.
