British Sign Language (BSL): What's Your Job?

Learn how to sign various different job titles in British Sign Language (BSL).
At the start of the video, there's some general terms for job titles. The signs for 'advisor' and 'assistant' may depend on your job. With your dominant hand in a 'thumbs up' position and your non-dominant hand with an index finger extended, this represents supporting or helping a person. Both hands in the 'thumbs up' position is used where jobs entail more general support. Feel free to choose the one that matches your job and use the appropriate lip pattern.
The sign used for 'manager' changes depending on the context also. Where the manager is a boss, use the sign with two index fingers extended. However, in the case of a 'Social Media Manager' for example, this context usually refers to someone who is organising workloads and a different sign is used. Use whichever is appropriate to your job role depending on if you are managing people or tasks.
There are some simple sentences at the end of the video to help you use the vocabulary learned in this video. Asking yourself a question is a useful tool to construct sentences in BSL, i.e. 'my job is a builder' becomes 'Job me what? builder' in BSL. Much like English and other languages however, there are various ways to construct sentences.

The way you that you show the sign in profile, as well as facing, is incredibly helpful. Thank you!

It is sooo useful that you show the hand form (?) And then the same sign from the side! Sometimes I get it wrong from the front and when you teach the side, I can correct it. 👌👏💜 (excuse my Eng, Im not from The UK)

I really like the incorporation of sentences because I find I can build the vocab but I’m not confident to use it yet so this is great

Thank you! I guess dog trainer would be to open fore and middle fingers of both hands (rest of hands in a relaxed fist), point to ground twice, then brush one hand against the other twice (like Dan did) ? So excited to learn that, made my day. Thanks

Would it be possible to make a video with vocab about the house/every day activities? Like rooms in the house but also things you might do in the house. “Cook” “eat” “kitchen” “TV” “watch TV” “bedroom” “sleep” “bed” “computer” etc?
