    Gelatin, what you call jelly, we call Jell-O in general but it's a name brand. We also do have jelly, jam, preserves, marmalade, curds, and fruit butter. The difference between them is mostly splitting hairs. They are all made with fruit, sugar, and maybe some added pectin depending on what you are making and how much natural pectin is already present in the fruit. The simple breakdown is this: Jelly- no fruit pieces, juice only. Jam- small fruit pieces are present. Preserves- has bigger fruit chunks. Marmalade- citrus fruit made with juice and zest from rinds. Curd (such as lemon curd)- fruit juice, zest if done from a citrus fruit, and contains egg yolk and butter. Similar to a custard. Fruit butters (such as apple butter)- pureed fruit cooked at low temperature for hours to thicken.

    Similarly, while grape is popular for the jelly/jam, I prefer strawberry jam, but again, it's anybody's personal choice. As far as the peanut butter, the non-separating kind has devolved in recent years to more of a "peanut-flavored candy" to appeal to kids; but if it's really peanut flavor you want, stick with natural, but NOT one with "honey added", or you're right back to candy!

    PB&J goes great with a cold glass of milk or water. By-the-way, Jam, Jelly & Jello are all separate items. Jelly & Jam are different: Jelly is made using fruit juice, while Jam is made using whole fruits that have been crushed. When i was young my grandmother would preserve fruits, etc. every year.

  • @DanielZ5
    @DanielZ5Ай бұрын

    The biggest difference between jelly, jam, and preserves is how much of the original fruit is used to make them. Jelly has the smoothest consistency and is made by crushing a fruit and discarding the solid chunky leftovers. This leaves only the fruit juice, which is then mixed with a substance called pectin and heated to form the gelatinous spread. Jam is similarly made by crushing a fruit, but this spread leaves in most of the solid pieces of the fruit’s fibers and seeds (if they’re small enough and safe to consume) to give it a spreadable consistency. Of the three, preserves use the most of the fruit and are simply chopped smaller pieces of fruit that are mixed with sugar to keep them fresh and combined with a syrup or jam to contain them.

    In America, jam is the same thing as jam in Britain/Jersey: it has pieces of fruit fibre in it. Jelly is a preserve that has the consistency of gelatine because of the pectin in it, but it is clear and the fruit bits have been strained out, leaving just the juice, which is congealed. If it has a jelly spread in it, it's peanut butter and jelly; if it has a jam spread in it, it's peanut butter and jam.

They always say in other videos, that's not gravy, just because it's not Brown! We have several different types of gravy and brown gravy! There is no either/or!
