Indeed, they were issued right the way through from mid-WW2 to the late 1960s. I provided a link, top right, in the video when I mention the early '50s issue to a video I did on a Light Anti Gas Respirator set up for 1944 which would also be accurate for the time your grandad served which might be of interest.

Hose type, as in the type with a hose between the face piece and filter on the chest (in the bag). Still being issued in the 50's.

Ah, I misread your post on my phone when first replying, my apologies, yes, the General Service Respirator was still on issue into the 1950s too. It had some advantages, for one the filter lasted longer as it was a lot larger.

Hey, I was curious if you could help me with an interesting jacket I have. The label says jacket, combat tropical, desert dpm. There’s just one twist... the jacket is black. I haven’t found much about it.

I've seen a couple of items for sale which have been dyed in this manner, who did it, why and how common it was I do not know.

The only this is the mask would usually be the painted exhale assembly version which is painted black but it’s otherwise the same

I think your comments got a bit jumbled. There are certainly versions of the respirator with black exhale valve covers, I have a video of a 1960s dated example on my channel.

Yep later into the 50s they started stamping these masks GD MK7 and painting everything black though some weren't painted and just had black diaphragms with either a filter thread on the forehead or a 60 to 40mm adapter glued in the standard cheek thread. The latter 3 were used in nuclear testing from footage I've seen.
