On it being 'toned down', Michael Scott in the US version isn't a douche or a monster. He's more or less a child with no self-awareness, desperate for friendship. Even he recognized the hysterectomy thing was mean...he just wanted to be funny and for people to like him (and he doesn't know). He really does mean well.

  • @dionnel8882

he is most definitely a douche, 😂 yes he’ll say something offensive that he believes is harmless yet when anyone in the office calls him out on it he doubles down. he’s also a grown adult that doesn’t like to be told he’s wrong lol it makes for good comedy though

I think they had planned him to be an obvious douche like in the UK version. But it didn’t land as well because the American humor/audience is different, so they started pretending that he was nice and apparently make it less obvious. It works really well for the show. But if you look at it, he’s still self-serving, ignorant, narcissistic douche who doesn’t take responsibility for his employees 😄 it doesn’t matter if he behaves like a child or means well when he’s an employer and a grown adult. As a real person, he’d be a nightmare, out of a job and probably drowning in lawsuits (just the diversity episode alone 🙈)

You get to know most the characters very well throughout the 9 seasons. Creed is my all time favorite character in a television series. Mostly because he remains a mystery and just says the most absurd things. The show stays fantastic throughout the entire run and has my favorite series finale of all time. This show just worked for me.

I don't like sitcoms. I never watch them. I didn't watch The Office when it originally aired. A few years ago I caught a couple of reruns and loved it. I even bought the whole series. It's perfect when you're feeling under the weather. It's hilarious and helps to take your mind off of things.

You should try Parks and Recreation; very similar in humor and style. Of course, like all new shows, the first season is probably the weakest as it is trying to find itself and establish characters.

I'm glad you guys pointed out your thoughts on the show's background characters at the start of the video. The background characters definitely have their moments. As the show progresses, these characters make little comments or do things that allow the viewer to get an idea of what type of person each individual is. The background characters make me laugh hardest in many episodes bc of their quirky behavior.

You gotta wait until season 2 and so on to get more from the rest of the cast in terms of true character development (Not Michael, Pam, Jim and Dwight who are basically the only fledged out characters in season 1). As y’all already know after season 1 is when the show branches off to be its own thing.
