    I thought at first this guy couldn't be real but then I realised he was the absolute most genuine of them all, a heart wrenching vocalist who delivers country like there is no tomorrow. My all time favorite singer ever. Yay Dwight.

Short list of people who could pull that off at their best friend's funeral.

    Here is what I love about your channel - you embrace all music. Clearly you have your own preferences, but you have everything from rock, to country, to bluegrass. Like a lot of us, we enjoy and can recognize the talent and hard work it has taken for a lot of these artists to get where they are and it is hard to not watch these without smiling and enjoying them. It is just as enjoyable, for me anyway, to watch your reaction and see the enjoyment on your face while you're watching these vids. It is the sign of a true, confident musician who can watch another musician and recognize and respect their talent instead of being threatened by it or post an "OH yeah, let me show you how to do it better." vids over and over. Kudos to you for that.

    I was strictly a rock & roller, but as I heard more classic Country music, I fell in love with the sound. And I do mean classic. Anyone who came later than Dwight or Marty Stuart I have no time for. Listen to musicians like Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings, Emmy Lou Harris, and of course, Johnny Cash, and you might form a different opinion of Country. But stay away from today's Country. It's a hybrid Country/Pop music with a little twang and a lot of glitz with maybe some standout artists, but I none that I can name.

    When Nashville lost the outlaw country artists to Austin, TX Buck Owens and Porter Wagner wound up in Bakersfield, California. I still remember the Porter Wagner Show on Sundays at 6pm rebroadcast on channel 47 out of Fresno. Dolly Parton was a back up singer for Porter. The next generation from this was Merle Haggard and Dwight and these guys were Ioved for their outlaw stance as well. Mr. Yoakum still performs today. I saw him at Hardly Stickley Bluegrass a few years back.

  • @teamlotus13

    @teamlotus13

    It’s not really accurate to say Dwight and Haggard were of the same generation. Haggard was 18 years older and began recoding about 20 years earlier than Dwight. Also, Dolly replaced Norma Jean on Porter Wagoner’s show as featured vocalist and duet partner. She did much more than sing back-up.

    Dwight is great! I love his country with a Spanish influence sound. His style is unique for a modern artist and is a homage to some traditional country. He’s extremely popular and a fantastic performer!! Love him!!

    Dwight Yoakam is one of my favorites - he is, to my untrained musical ears, an exceptional musician and he can dance! Music to me, is like wine - I don't know why I like it or why I don't, I can't detect the subtle hints of chocolate & cherries or smell the earthy moss - just know that I like it & it tastes good. Loved your analysis of him & his music - And, I love the way you explain it without making me feel like a know-nothing dum-dum. Thank you

    This was an interesting video. I like Dwight's voice. The violin was a bit of a surprise, I was expecting more country but it was almost classical. The accordion really surprised me, but it was a nice surprise and it fit in so well. I also liked the bass solo and the bass and accordion duet at the end. They didn't over-power each other. This was very enjoyable to listen too.

    Great analysis. SO glad you put the spotlight on Dwight. In my humble opinion not only is he a great singer/performer but one of the best songwriters of the last 30 years. Compare his lyrics to most of the chart pap these days and he's in a different class. Indeed if one were to take away the country styling ( not that I would ever want to ) you've got some great rock songs. Love the website.

    You cracked me up when you were describing the nasal twang, nasal sound. I never heard of such a thing before! I just thought that was how Dwight sang. I love the analysis and I love Dwights song Your the One. I was listening to you while I was stretching my aching back so you took me off guard! Thanks! I love DY!!!!!

    Now that's REAL COUNTRY MUSIC! Good job Fil. I love the way that you respect different genre's of music. You see the Talent in all musicians from country, to rock, to jazz, to classical. That is why I like watching your analysis's videos. Everyone you show case is not my favorite or yours either, but you see the Talent that they possess and you showcase it on your channel... Love it!

    And Hillbilly music,on these lonely streets that I call home.He could always get a tear or two out of me.I never listened to alot of country music, but I listened to alot of Dwight at one time.Im not sure what drew me to his sound, maybe his extreme twang or his cry in your beer songwriting.To anyone looking for a listen,check out his album Hillbilly deluxe, once again thxs for the memories Fil, and hopefully I see you next time 👉

    One Sunday morning in `86 (two years before we moved to Brisbane Australia) I opened my dealership `American Car Specialists` in Dunstable Beds and flicked the radio on as usual to Radio London's `Stuart Colman's " Echoes" show` First thing I heard.. `It wont hurt if I fall down off this bar-stool` WOW.. Straight back to the days when my parents were playing, Hank Snow, Hank Williams, Tennessee Ernie Ford......etc.. Dwight Yoakam.. Been a fan ever since.. Met him at the launch of Guitars and Cadillacs Radio London soon after.. Love to get your take on DW`s Suspicious Minds. Love what you are doing Fil.. cheers

    I am a Dwight Yoakam fan from the beginning. I have every one of his albums and I don't think there's a bad track on any of them. He's from Pikeville, KY and grew up in Columbus, OH but never lost his Kentucky roots. I saw a pair of his jeans at the Country Music Hall of Fame (and they looked tight on the display). I think he's the greatest. And like some commentators suggested, please check out The Mavericks - Raul Malo is a fantastic singer.

    I enjoy Dwight Yoakum and your analysis. I love when you drive home the difference between tremolo and vibrato. I think hearing a piano tuner play rock organ through Lesley speakers, it was my love of that pulsing sound, that got me happily obsessed/and confused. You make it so understandable, Fil. ❤️
