@allen fraser most seem to end up with that because of their hectic schedules and touring dates, now get out there and be your best, and on to the next show who needs rest. Even watching the wrestlers come in, it was like watching a meat/flesh show, performing monkeys. Seems the managers and promoters (the one's making all the money off the 'stars') don't care about them, they just use them to make that money. That's why so many Dr. Feelgoods out there. But...for the fame and the glory and whatever, most 'stars' choose that life or end up washed up, used up and tossed aside. Really sad. As consumers we don't see that side and don't think about it, we're just here to be entertained. Don't care about your problems just sign an autograph here, you owe me cuz I'm your biggest fan. Sad day. Some actually do make it through and manage to have a decent life. I think Cory Wells was one of those. Sorry for the rant. And no, coke doesn't help it.

Take a look at 4 or 5 you tubes of Bobby Darin and ditto of Frank Sinatra. One has smooth notes throughout, and one hits occasional discordant notes. One has natural ease and rhythm, and one is stiff and robotic. No contest at all. I will leave it for you to decide. My choice is easy!!!

Bobby Darin oozes confidence and charisma in this performance. Like all true professionals he makes it look all so easy. In fact the playful charm is a highly polished routine timed to perfection. Every note and every nuance counts. No over singing or unnecessary trills. Amazing to think he was only 34 when this was taped- he looks so much older- middle aged. Of course he was living on borrowed time as a result of a heart defect that would eventually take his life just 3 years later on 20th Dec 1973. He recorded so many iconic songs but he also recorded some cringey novelty numbers too. There are also a number of records that quite frankly are disrespectful & misogynistic and you'll never hear played on any radio station in 2020. Thankfully it's those amazing iconic recordings that are celebrated today.

Bobby Darin was one of the most talented artists of all time: singer, songwriter, multi instrumentalist, actor - In 1959, he became the only actor ever to have been signed to five major Hollywood film studios. Bobby was also a very good friend of Elvis and one of his favorite singers (along with Frank Sinatra, Roy Orbison and Tom Jones, I'd say those are some rather talented singers) The fact that Fil brings such a varied group of artists and speaks so knowledgeably about them is a great tribute to him, and them 🎶

I’m glad you didn’t say the original beats this: you leave it open they’re tied. Two different performances, both incredible, This one has something extra IMO: it’s live; the way he changes the phrasing of practically every line; different accents (a little Southern twang at points); almost percussive at points (you-know-that-weight-is-there-strictly-for-the-weight-lil’-girl). The original is smooth and has a lot of character, especially given that smooth, smooth tone, but these touches and even a little bit of rasp, still a great, great voice. Wow. For both. And Bobby Darin. A genius in every way. Who can touch him today?

I remember reading a fan magazine which told of how Bobby was happy just to be alive, as when he was 15 and diagnosed with rheumatic heart, the doctors said that he would most likely not live beyond 35. He did pass that age , but yes he was gone far too soon. RIP Bobby.

He was not expected to live past 16, which is why he packed so much in his 37 years. Read his son Dodd Darin’s book about Bobby’s life. He said he wanted to be remembered as “a great entertainer and a human” being.” YOU WERE THAT AND SO MUCH MORE! Very caring and socially conscious man with more talent than any entertainer before or since.

Bobby was underappreciated by the public when he was alive. When he died way too soon, I think he was 38 when he died from a bad heart. If he had lived he would have been right there with Frank and Dean and Nat King Cole. I always loved his voice it was so easy going, just like him. He could go big and loud, or soft and quiet. You always felt you could sing like him until you tried to, then the truth would slowly sink in, no, no you can't. Thanks for your reaction, and thank you for doing these semi forgotten greats.

Laurie Kane - So right, Laurie. I’m 75, and still have a lesson every week. I started playing at age 29, when I got divorced and was finally free to do something I wanted just for me. I bought my guitars back then, a classical with nylon strings and a nice acoustic Martin. (They’re worth an unimaginable (back then) amount now!) I remarried a few years later and put the guitars away. Working and raising a family took up my time and energy. When my second husband passed several years ago, I took the guitars out of storage, and began to play again. I found a teacher and loved the discipline that practice required, as well as the slow progress I made. They formed a lovely foundation for my life. I am no great player, but it brings me great joy to be able to play my instruments, even though I only play for myself and a couple of select non-critical family members. Yes, you’re never too old.

Talking about smooth, leaves Sinatra in the rear view mirror. Come September is a Joy (Ahh Gina Lolo) and a friend from my early days thought Dream Lover was the best song ever written. Wish you were here Bobby. Much love.

What a fun video by Bobby. A lot of entertainment seems to be lost in today's industry which always portrays music too seriously. Music should be a pallette of colours not just one. Love the fact that this song has more sets of keys than my front door. Great vid Fil.

Oh, I did not really work there on payroll, though, I did get behind the bar to make some drinks. There was a weird drink I made called "Marla's Rum" something, something. I cannot recall. Though, interestingly enough, this was the place I had my baby shower prior to giving birth to my son Aaron. It was funny. It was meant to be a surprise baby shower. However, the person of whom was bringing me there, I told him - "Let's go in the back door". LOL. So, we came in from the back door, and we surprised everyone at the surprise party! LOL! I had no idea.
