I had a 1958 Riley 1.5 and the car featured immediatey after it, 1948 Hillman was my mother's first car in 1961.

BRILLIANT ! Yes please to your offer of showing us more of these pictures. A real trip down memory lane. I was born in 1955 so saw all these cars on the roads. I remember the Caravan holidays and picnics by the side of the road. What a great 'memory jogger' - thank you for sharing :-)

As another product of 1955 I must echo your sentiments. It's amazing - I recognise and could name most of those cars and yet haven't got a clue about the anonymous boxes parked on the neighbours' drives today.

As an 8-yr old in around 1959, I prided myself that I knew the make and model of every car on the road. But I only got around 10% of these correct! How memory fades with the passage of time!

We don't know very well the old british cars back here on the continent (I'm Belgian), so these gorgeous pictures and all the informations you give are extremely interesting... with a lot of nostalgy, even for a foreigner like me. Thank you very much, good work !

Thank you, lovely old photographs which I much enjoyed, including your comments on the locations and surroundings. I am a South African and loved the inclusion of local photos. My mother had a 100E Anglia from 1959 to 1967. Followed by a 105E 1200cc station wagon. My late dad was a doctor and had an Austin Westmianister A110. Mom wanted to take us kids to East London for a visit to her parents and Dad was on duty so could not get away. It was a 575 mile trip from our town Vryheid in Northern KwaZulu-Natal to East London. My father wanted her to take the Austin but she insisted on taking the 100E Anglia sedan. I was about 8 at the time and remember the trip with my three smaller siblings and our nanny! There are some serious mountain passes along the route and I remember the Anglia spending much time in second gear of the three speed a box. Buy it got us there and back no problem. Thanks again for your videos. Love watching them when I want to relax and remember cars of our past.

Thanks for posting these, absolutely fantastic, this era is my favourite for cars, they look so stylish.

I was a boy in the 1960’s and saw all of these cars around and knew the makes and models. They had very distinct individual styling unlike the generic designs you see today. The oldest car I had was a 1960 Singer Gazelle which drew attention wherever I went in it. It must have been about 35 years old when I took possession of it, and I travelled all around wales and the Lake District in it. No safety features whatsoever !

Some lovely & practical cars such as the Morris Minor 'wagon' version, but also a lot of cars that gave the Japanese car makers a huge opportunity to get started.

Great nostalgia , takes me back to Sunday afternoon outing with my mum and dad in the mid fifties with the old Ford prefect open afield gate get th parafin stove out, and have a picnic ,sometimes go collecting blackberries simple pleasures

Really interesting pictures, locations and commentary. Pure nostalgia for me who passed my test 1966 an could only afford bangers. I had in order, 1954 Minx, 1954 Somerset, 1958 A35 van with windows, 1961 Ford Consul Mk 2 with disc brakes. These were very cheap to buy but I spent weekends mending them with my mate who also had a variety of bangers. I also had a 1934 Riley Falcon . Yes, keep them coming

Austin A40. First car I drove when I returned to England after driving Jeeps in Korea. It seemed like luxury.

Excellent video, I remember the stick on demister pads for rear windows, my mother had one in her 67’ mini ( it often fell off)😁

I have sat in a few of the years you show here. My father owned a Hillman Minx Coronation model 1953 - he owned it till 73. Have driven it - real classics! Good job!

Really interesting,yes I would like to see more films like this.I was born in 1965 so I remember some of these cars still around in the 1970s.

Lovely to see. (Born '45). My brother and I, as boys, could rattle off the engine cc's and bhp of every make, learned from the annual Daily Mail Motor Show magazine, of which we still have quite a few. I can still recognize most of the vehicles from 50's and 60's, and in pre-covid summers we took in the various old vehicle shows.

As an 86 year old I remember most of these cars and owned some of them. I have also enjoyed your old H.G.V. Videos. You are a very knowledgeable man. Thank you. Keep it up. Cheers from Scotland 🥃.

I've just finished spending many very happy hours working my way through this particular series of videos and can only echo the positive comments you have received. I concur that is a Singer SM1500 at 20.08; my Dad had one back in the day - dreadful styling, and I use the term in its loosest sense!! Keep up the good work!

Yes please to more pictures, they bring back boyhood memories. My father bought a brand new Vauxhall Velox in 1958 reg YWE 35,and sold it eighteen months later as it was beginning to rust he then had an Austin A55 reg no 6241 E it was the later model with lower rear end in two tone cream and blue. My first car was a Singer Gazelle.

V8 Pilot my father had one in the 60"s, estate car and it was HUGE 7 seater. My first car was an MG 1100 in British Racing Green. These photos take me back so many years when life was much simpler. I was mistaken in a previous comment on another Video about the Austin 3L. My brother had an Austin, old age, no idea where the Wolseley came from. It was a lovely car though.

Great pics. I grew up in NZ in the 50s/60s and because of the economics of the era kiwis would hang on to their cars forever. Lots of great memories.

Terrific! My very first car was a Vauxhall Victor (bought second-hand for £60 on hp in late 1950s) with a sun-roof (wind open!) and a steering column gear-change! Can hardly recall how it operated now!..one up, then three down I think! Great commentary!

Thoroughly enjoyed that little glimpse into the past. Not too distant past,but I was alive for most of them. Keep em coming.

Brilliant shots with a very informative, calm and interesting commentary. I remember so many of these old classics travelling with my family on our holidays.

The car alongside the A40 in Germany is an East German designed and manufactured Wartburg estate, the so called Camping-Limousine. You can create a relatively comfortable bed from the seats and the earlier versions had a large fabric sunroof, located between those curved rear windows. A much sought after car among Wartburg enthusiast. If you're ever close to Eisenach in Germany, the city Luther was born in, do visit the Wartburg museum. It is not large but has an excellent collection of Wartburg's.

Thank you so much for an excellent collection of cars in period, some real rarities ,Singer 1500,Ford Squire etc. Yes please more collections like this one would be most welcome, once again thank you so much.

The car next to the German A40 is a Wartburg 311 Camping, an estate version with folding rear seats so they made a flat surface. Rare back then and very rare today.

At 13:34, looks like a Vauxhall estate wagon alongside the Austin. Thanks for all the photos, played at a slower pace so we can examine and enjoy these lost classics.

Great to see these wonderful cars, one of my teachers many years ago had a Renault and another drove a convertible Morris Minor, my first car was a Ford Consul Mk I, a 1956 model but the first car I actually drove in a large car park was a Triumph Herald, the driving school I used had a Mk I Cortina which I drove once and they also used a Ford Anglia which was my first main driving experience. My father owned a Standard 10 around 1950 or so, an older version of the one in your great video. Thanks for these superb memories.

Very interesting, enjoyed your commentary, the photo presentation was like pages out of our family albums.

Passed my driving test first time aged 18 in 1960 in my previously bought 1956 Morris minor.It lasted another two years before falling apart due to the usual 'rust' problem benighting most British cars of that era.Bought a Sunbeam Rapier(also 1956model) No pictures of Sun beams in this collection unfortunately but that also went the same way !It lasted till 1967 .Happy days!

Picnics at the side of the road were very 50s and 60s. When I bought my first car in 1968, my friends and I made a spoof picnic at the side of the road with a table and chairs, white table cloth, candles and silverware with on friend acting as a waiter.

Thank you for a very interesting and well observed series. Very nostalgic. My parents used to have a flying standard 12 and then a standard vanguard. Much appreciated!

I had an Austin A40 Somerset drophead, both that and the Hillman were built by Carbodies in Coventry.

What a great collection! I also amass old car photographs of this period, fascinating snapshots......At 13:48 I would say that the A40 is on Vienna plates. The station wagon alongside is a Wartburg Camping Limousine. Edit - You are also correct at identifying the similar, but saloon version, Wartburg at 19:09. Quite unusual to see in British scenes at the time.....

I have seen most of these British classic cars during the 1960s ,in the then Malaya.Thanks for sharing the video Sir.Morris Minor was a common, popular car then, Austin Cambridge,Morris Oxford, Morris Mini, Wolsey 4/49 , Triumph herald, Vauxhall Viva, Austin Allegro,Ford Prefect ,Ford Anglia,Ford Transit, Hillman Minx,etc that I have seen during my younger days.On the heavy vehicles side,we had the Bedford TK ,TJ series,Fargo Kew, Leyland Comet, Austin lorry, BMC 420FG, Seddon Diesel made by Atkinson vehicle Ltd , Albion Chieftain , Ford D0707 ,Thames Trader, all reliable vehicle .anyway thanks for sharing the video Sir.

These photos are brilliant. There were a couple in there that I didn't know but so many are familiar from my childhood and from old films. I was born in 54.

Most interesting, as a young man I owned most of these and still own a 1949 Ford Perfect

Next to the A40 mk2 in Germany, I think it's a Wartburg 311 Camping. I'm enjoying these black and white snaps.

That has brought back a few memories for me! As I have owned quite a few of the models shown! plus those my father & his brothers owned! My collection included A Ford Squire (MGS 8), a Standard phase 3, a MK1 Mini (jws 720?) fitted with the MG1100 engine etc., a Humber light 16, and an Austin 10! My Father has the Austin Hereford A70 (egs 226), The Austin Westminster 110 (ogs111) then a Wolesly 6/110 (ces46c)! My uncle had a Morris 1000 countryman and the photo you showed has what looks like my cousin sitting in it! My other uncles had a string of Austin a40's, Ford 100e's and Consuls, & Hillman Minx's! I currently own a Hillman IMP Super that has not been on the road since 1984/5 with only 31000 miles on the clock! and solid body!

After passing my test in 1962 driving a Morris Traveler I drove a lot of the cars and vans featured in your video. My father owned an Armstrong Siddley Whitley body with the reg JFS 100 his name was Frank Sheppard and his brother was John, sadly it was sold to a fireman when dad was off work with a slipped disc. My elder brother built the last 37 Elva Couriers for Trojan Motors, all were exported to the US So thank you for stirring my brain box and reviving some great memories.

Another great vid OCC the Ford 107 E van bought back lots of memories as did the 400E - I did a lot of miles in those vans of Dads, - lots of ''Desmo'' roofracks too, I'm sure the ''roof bars'' you mentioned were Desmo too - from their commercial range. You asked for suggestions, how about ''period light commercials'' ? ....which it could be argued were (and still are??) the backbone of the economy.

So interesting and the guy is so knowledgeable, really enjoyable

I really enjoyed this lovely video, l spotted many cars that my late father had in his time including the Zodiac mklll, the Ford Pilot, Ford Prefect and Anglia. Yes my father was a Ford man! 😄 He did like Austin/ Rover cars as well.

Love to see these old cars, many of which I can remember from my childhood in the 1950s/60s. I believe the car at around 13.40 next to the Austin A40 is a Wartburg 311 estate or Camping Limousine as they were known. Looking forward to more of the same!

I'd love to see more like this. My granddad had an A40 Somerset (reg OND 850) when I was young in the 1950's

I had a Somerset Saloon and the Convertible version from the 1980s up to the mid 2000s. Lovely comfortable cars. I had to sell them when I moved house, I really miss them!

A real trip down memory lane, My dad had several of those Ford and Austin variants 'in period' . Well remember the holiday trip down to Devon in the then new Ford Escort similar to the 'Squire' a most uncomfortable journey which took anythink up to 6 0r 7 hours from Birmingham pre motorway days. And lots of cars roof rack and suitcases on the top and as the saying went drivers foot down to the floor boards. Just a sugestion the Cortina looks to me as having Dutch number plates. THanks for uploading most enjoyable.

Lovely photos! The Ford "Consul", really a Cortina Mark 1, registration DE- or GE-96-17, is a Dutch car. So is the wonderful Hillman Minx four-seat drophead convertible. Although the registration number on the Minx is hard to read, it is clearly a Dutch one as well: two capital letters, hyphen, two figures, hyphen, two figures. The Austin A40 Mark II "hatchback" is an Austrian car, not a German one. Austrian registration plates of that time were black, with thin, rather beautiful white letters and figures. Next to the Austin stands a Wartburg 311-5 estate, a rather elegant GDR-take on American station cars of the era.

Brilliant collection and narration , spot on as far as I could tell Richard !.Some incredible rarities , the Ensign Estate & Squire ,earliest F Type Victors, when did you last see one of them ?.At 16.31 , you're right, the car in the background is a Vauxhall 10 , around 1937 with the spare wheel ' moulded ' into the boot lid .Love the formality of that era, men still wearing ties and waistcoats on holiday , picnics directly by the roadside which I well remember as a child !.The car of course was a prestigeous investment and often included in family photographs , thank goodness so many no longer around have been imortalised for us to view with affection . Look forward to seeing more .

This is so interesting! I had a left hand drive Riley just like the one here, in Germany! My second car back here was a Ford 100E that took me to Newcastle and back to the Portsmouth and used Petrol and Oil in the same proportions!!

Good to see stuff from South Africa, your 2nd photo wi no 19 on it was a Pretoria registration TP being Transvaal Pretoria. LOTS of changes since then

My first car was Morris minor 1000 after passing my driving test in 1970

The 1963 Consul Cortina @ 11:52 has a Dutch registration. The front lights were only fitted in 1963 due to a change in the UK construction & use regulations for 1964 requiring all flashing indicators (front & rear) to be orange. I still have many manufacturers' brochures of the period 1958 to 1966.

On some of the cars I noticed the passenger doors opened left to right unlike modern cars . This I always thought gave better access to a vehicle . Another easy access vehicle were Dormobile vans with the distinctive sliding door . I think a lot of us older stiff leg drivers would like this design to return.

Very nice to see some old photos. Car ownership was a luxury for some back then and I am guessing that AA membership was quite important partly due to some cars being less reliable than others. I seem to remember that the AA appeared to promote themselves more than the RAC, that could just be because my Dad was often approached by the AA even when he was a member. His first car was bought in the early 60's. Thanks for sharing this collection I would be grateful to see more B&W photos.👍

Ah, the memories. My very first car was a brown 1953 Ford Prefect. I bought it second hand in April 1968 - I was robbed at £7 10s - but it was my pride and joy - and such a babe magnet.

Great Selection. The Riley 1.5 @ 1:14 is a Mark 1, looks to be in Damask Red. The Mk1 had smaller closer grille strakes and extended round the front to flare onto the wing. The Mark 2 grille stopped abruptly at the front/wing panel join and the indicator/sidelight cluster differed. Also spoken as 163 HOA, the Triumph Herald is clearly 163 HON.

You showed a photograph of the Standard Motor Company stand at a motor show. In the background was a TR3 registration number TRW 746. This car was one of three works cars built, in 1957, to compete in the Tulip Rallye, Liege-Rome-Liege etc driven by drivers such as Paddy Hopkirk and others. TRW 736 is currently for sale at an asking price of £210,000! I believe that TRW 746 may have been recently sold but for much less than the asking price for 736

Aral is a german petrol & garage franchise from the mid 20s. The deep slanting roof makes it a snow rich area. I would say somewhere in the moutains in middle europe most likely in Germany .

I just absolutely love these old vehicles. Better than the boring hatchback types that all look the same. If you need a VO I can help.

That Ford Prefect 100E had a Pretoria number plate. That system of car registration has long since disappeared into history in most of South Africa.

I learnt to drive in a Singer 1500 SM. I recognised it straight away!

Very thick windscreen pillars and a flat 'screen if I remember right?

I had a 52 Austin a40 in US. It got 800 miles between breakdowns. It was the worse car I ever owned, but my 65 MGB was one of the best.

At 1.51 the Prefect’s TP 788 is a Pretoria registration. T for Transvaal, P for Pretoria.

Nice to see the beautiful Austin A40 Devon represented a few times as well as the very rare variants (2 door Dorset (12:10) and Countryman (13:15)).
