British Army specialists join German troops on exercise

Specialist troops from the British Army have taken part in the German military's main annual air logistics exercise.
Personnel from the Royal Logistics Corps' 13 Air Assault Support Regiment travelled to Celle, Germany, to train with their German counterparts, the 8th Airborne Logistics Company.
The Colchester-based 13 Air Assault Support Regiment sustains the elite troops of the 16 Air Assault Brigade Combat Team, while 8th Airborne Logistics Company supports the German 31st Paratrooper Regiment.

    The UK and Germany should have never fought in the two World Wars. Both nations have more in common than more that separates. The current Bundeswehr is a mere shadow of the robust and capable Bundeswehr of the 1980s. Germany went from 85 tank battalions to 11. Overall from near 500K troops to 175K. Poland has more Leopard 2 tanks than Germany - and a significant number of Germany's are inoperable or mothballed. The British Army is likewise a shadow. Of course, the Russian Army if not even close to the monster the Red Army was prior to the collapse of the USSR. The mobilization system, the category B and C divisions - all the infrastructure that was designed to produce echelon after echelon of fresh Red divisions to grind NATO down - was too expensive to maintain. Russia tried to professionalize and modernize a smaller army, but the corruption made sure than few kopecks of the rubles allocated made it.

    “Surprised on how closely they did the same drills”, well it’s easy most lessons on infantry drills were from the WW2 German play book and just evolved. A mate who was ex RE was interested in the WW2 assault pioneer , when comparing drills and field manuals from the Germans he was finding it was the same drills and procedures as the stuff he had learnt in his phase two training and when he asked about it he was told “where do you think we learned about it, we took what was successful tactics and made it our own.”

    British military meets German military = world class army. Definitely the best in Europe 🇬🇧🇩🇪 I think the British army will be training will a lot of other countries in NATO too, these type of training exercises are very important for NATO member States so the armed forces of each member are familar with each others different equipment, weapons, operational and logistical tactics. If we ever have to face a common enemy like Russia or China, we will be prepared and ready to deploy together. The wireless scale linked to computers for weighing heavy equipment and inventory being transported is pretty neat. it shows how German engineering leads the world, I bet the British military will be keen to buy some of that tech. Both armies working together provide a formidable fighting force with combined tactical and logistical capability.

    Trump wouldn't pull out of NATO. If ever Europe falls then the US falls, its a blatant obvious fact. The US could never afford to lose the UK if it ever wants to hold guaranteed political power in Europe.

  • @Exodon2020

    @Exodon2020

    @@TomGB-81 You are assuming Trump would make rational decisions but his first term should have proven quite the opposite. He coddled every authoritarian ruler under the sun, belittled and besmirched his allies and strategic partners at every opportunity. He was caught on Camera saying he trusted Putin's word more than his own intel provided by people sworn to him and his country. It's actually confirmed now that Trump was supposed to pull the US from NATO by the end of 2021. This way, Europe would have been helpless and exposed to Russian Aggression just at the onset of the War in Ukraine. Russian strategists projected they would have been able to take Ukraine, Moldova, the Baltics and Poland in one swift blow, possibly collapsing the EU and whatever remained of NATO. Thing about NATO is, the US built this alliance around its own armed forces. With US Command structures removed, the Rest of the Alliance would have a harder time to Coordinate. Of course, the armed forces of Europe have quite a lot of interoperability - but these capablities are also tied into NATO.

    Nigel. I believe they were showing how they operate when they disembark the chopper. (I have seen this manoeuvre shown before, they intentionally touch legs for some reason cannot remember why). And while I appreciate it may be for the cameras. It would still have been an accurate attempt at an example. Having said that, my point is they are too close together to avoide a seriously bad start to any operation should they come under fire, before they have even got going. And what about the other side of the landing site? How do they know there aren’t enemy troops there?

    @@craigray6090 Looks like they were ambling out a van after a shopping trip, all round should cover 360 arc , guess touching legs would be required if the landing kicks up loads of dust removing visibility so you don't shoot you own troops.
