This time, I don’t agree with Elita. As an Indonesian, I would say that we’re the opposites of the kind of politeness that the British and the Japanese have. Indonesians can come off as impolite, especially if you come from a Westerner’s POV. A lot of our people would stare at you, ask you very personal questions, and would not give you personal space because they are not taught that these are rude things to do. But our people are very friendly and warm-hearted, they would welcome you to their homes even if you’re a total stranger, they would happily take care of your toddler while you’re busy with something else, they would not hesitate to go out of their way to help, etc. I’ve been to many Asian countries including China, India, and all ASEAN countries and although people always say that we’re similar with Malaysians, I would say that we’re the most similar with the Filipinos in terms of their friendliness, warmth, and hospitality towards foreigners. Malaysians are most similar with Singaporeans, they are not friendly and rarely smile but most are helpful if you ask them for directions etc. Cheers to my Filipinos! 🇮🇩🍻🇵🇭
