Ha ok. Life or death situation. 😄😄 I do not want too say it but even if I like a cinnamonbun there are better buns and cakes. But it is my taste only. They are good for sure.

The pee stench is probably from whatever cleaning fluid they use when cleaning the platforms. They were just unlucky to be at the station on the cleaning day. The fastetst train between Stockholm and Gothenburg takes about 3 hours, but 4,5 hours is the norm. The cinnamon bums (lol) are not dry if they haven't been cut.

No one is going from Gothenburg to Stockholm or the other way around just to have a night out on the town and then back again haha. It takes around 3-4 hours.

True. A Swedish train entering the platform would simply run into the platform. The nearest thing the UK has is the Eurostar., which has its own platforms.

Coffee and Fika is serious business in Sweden. the coffe machine in the room is a moccamaster (good one.) treat yourself with a good bakery with quality coffee if you come here.

Bike capitol of sweden? Try one of the student citys of Lund or Uppsala!. It is estimated there are more bicycles in uppsala than people 😂

I thought Umeå was hte bike heaviest in sweden per capita. And the small town of Piteå has the most bike infrastructure per area of any city in Sweden.

When Gothenburg was founded there were two seats for scotsmen on the city council, as there were quite a number of them living in the area.

No other two countries in the world has been at war as many times as Sweden and Denmark, officially 13 times but some historians say its more like 32 times.

That train belongs to a company called MTR Express, which established itself in 2015, and only has one service, Express trains between Stockholm and Gothenburg. And yes, they brought in their own brand new trains when they began their operations. And yes, I was quite shocked when I spent the summer of 1995 (or if it was -96) in London, and experienced the commuter trains (I was staying in Dulwich and my job was in central London), and how every bump in the tracks made the trains sound like someone had dropped a bix box of silverware on the floor! If your trains are still like that you will be very positively surprised by Swedish trains. Or trains anywhere in continental Europe. 😀

Personally I like smaller cinnamon buns, the large ones are usually more dry. But my favourite is cardemum buns.

My favourite cinnamon bun is from Rosendals Trädgårdscafe. A garden cafe in Stockholm with woodstove oven baked buns. They also have gardens, green houses, walking paths, flower cultivation beds where you can get a pair of scissors and make your own boquet.

I'm a Swede, and I have said this before, but I think you would be best served (on a whole-Nordic trip) to take a plane to Copenhagen, Denmark. You can then see the Danish capital (and how inferior it is :D), then take the train over to Malmö, Sweden. Takes like 1 hour, I think. While in Sweden, you can get to any of the bigger cities by train, as the trains are plentiful and this is by far the easiest way of getting around. You can go to Göteborg (Gothenburg) from Malmö, then from Göteborg to Stockholm. From Stockholm it is up to you where you want to go next. I would personally suggest taking at the North of Sweden, but if you want to head in the direction of Norway that is fine too. I don't know how you will fit Finland into this (if that is your plan), but you could potentially actually start in Finland (Helsinki) and take the ferry over to Stockholm (very cheap). Just remember that the Nordics span a pretty huge geographical area. Everyone always says that we are small countries, but Sweden is actually the 4th biggest country counted by landmass in the EU.

The train from Copenhagen Central Station to Malmö Central Station is around 40 minutes. From Eastern Copenhagen, like the Airport, to southwestern Malmö, it's around 25-30 minutes. Also, my advice would be not only to focus on cities. What most tourists want to see in Sweden is often our Nature. Pick some national parks or nature reserves to visit. Or just some nice towns.

Coffee is black, possibly with sugar (tho I prefere without) If you order a "Latte" or "Cappuccino" or some other pretend-coffee, you get it in a tall glass, cuz its _not_ coffee but a coffee-drink, a drink with coffee _in it_ so it needs more room for the multiple ingredients. Some places serves actual Coffee in a glass as well but its rather unregular and generally of pretty poor quality as you would never really need to fill a glass if it was high quality Coffee. Youd either get "full" of the caffine before you finished it or it would take you so long to drink it would be cold before youre halfway done. I bet alot lf people will challenge this, but theyre all wrong. Coffee is black. Whatever else theyre drinking isnt, theyre just trying to justify it. They probably even think Starbucks is actually coffee 😮‍💨 smdh

Personally I've never had an entire platform smell of urine, so i doubt it's actually urine and not just something else that has an ammonia smell to it. I believe those particular trains are fairly new, but there are definitely a wide range of old and new trains that are in use right now. I suspect the reason their price was so low was because they're visit outside of peak holiday/tourist season. I would recommend you to rent a car for just a day or two so you can drive around on the Islands Öland and Gotland or even take the ferry over to Åland and see the beautiful city of Mariehamn. In the archipelagos of Stockholm or Gothenburg you could rent a small boat for the day and just cruise around the different islands. You should try and see if there's some videos about all the castles in Sweden sinces that's also a fun day trip sort of thing to do. Personally I would recommend taking one of the small ferries that goes to Skokloster.

Different train operators, this one was Hong Kong based MTRX. They have just been bought up by Finnish company VR. The biggest operator is SJ which has more train times and trains in general. New fleets are on the way, which is what you are showing in the thumbnail.

Look up Helsingborg in the south of Sweden where you can look over to Denmark , and take a ferry over in 20 minut . Helsingborg is a very old town .🤩

The trip takes between 3-3,5 hours. They went by a new train called MTRX and it seems cheaper than SJ. You can book food in advance and eat in their cafe. My favourite train in Sweden is Snälltåget. It’s cheaper, has vintage train carriages, and a vintage style restaurant that you can order in advance from. Really relaxed and quite classy for a train. They also have a sleeper train. The route is: Stockholm-Norrköping-Linköping-Malmö, Copenhagen, Berlin. In the winter it extends to the Alps!!! And they go from Stockholm-Åre, Jämtland etc, up in the far north for skiing and hiking. They go a bit slower. Not a high speed train.

Oh my god! One last comment, sorry for spamming the comment section! 😅I guess you already thought about this but since you wanted to try out our Semla I recommend coming in February, Semla galore. Many bakeries have Semla all year round though (because it's so f*ing tasty!!!) and if you're coming to Sweden Nov-Jan I've seen many places that serve a winter version of Semla with saffron in the bun. Also, if you have the time, don't sleep on the regions Dalarna and Jämtland in late Dec-Jan. Those parts are proper winter wonderlands at that time of the year.

Gothenburg is very much not a bicycle-friendly city, and I say that as someone using one constantly. The lanes are too often simply not there (these ppl in the video are clearly just going around the bigger streets where they are), and even when they are, it is simply too hilly of a city in general. Slopes for days. No, it is clearly a city designed with cars in mind (except for centralmost area, which is designed with trams and cars for some areas, and walking otherwise. Cobblestones means bikes or even rollerblades/skateboards are entirely useless there. But the hills are still the main issue. Where there aren't bike-lanes, we can use car lanes instead. But the reason few people use bikes is not the lack of lanes, it is the incessant uphills (which is why electric scooters actually took of surprisingly well - ppl use them to avoid having to walk upphill :p). That it is better [for bikes] compared to many other cities, is simply a case of said other cities being atrocious. Not about this city being particularly good.

Trains down south are new, trains up north are old.

A funny thing I just remembered. I live in Helsingborg, we can see Denmark from across the water and have a lot of history together. Everytime they test out the city alarm someone always says along the lines of " *sigh* It's the danes again".

I think you would like Gothenburg, Dwayne, one of it's nicknames is "Little Britain". The british influence was major for a few hundred years and is one reason to why "Göteborg" have a name in English... and why Liverpuddlians were so fond of Lobscouse (Lappskojs).

In Sweden / Malmö serve 90% coffee in glass. Go from Copenhagen to Malmö, stay there for a few days and enjoy Scanian food. From Malmö to Gothenburg takes an hour and 30 minutes by train, then to Stockholm it takes a few more hours😊

No high rise or no skyscrapers? This is the city with most skyscrapers in Sweden and probably whole Scandinavia, they are building a lot, the highest Skyscraper in whole northern Europe is in Gothenburg.

Other nice cities around Stockholm is Uppsala, Gävle, Norrköping, Örebro. If you want to look and visit historical buildings, those are the places to visit. Stockholm is the largest city, followed by Gothenburg and Malmö. On place number 4 on largest cities is Uppsala. On place number 5 comes 4 cities that are roughly equal in size (Linköping, Norrköping, Örebro and Västerås). All above mentioned cities (after the 3 largest) are worth a visit.

Don't forget Visby and the island of Gotland for its medieval city wall (the only one remaining) and old houses.

Historically Sweden often had no west coast at all. So when Sweden won and bought the coast where Göteborg/Gothenburg is there was a big use of a fort so that Denmark-Norway would not close the "breathing hole" that Göteborg was. At that time Denmark-Norway controlled all traffic out of the Baltics Sea. I think that controlling that shipping path were the reason for many of the wars between Sweden and the Denmark-Norway union.

@@RobertClaeson Not exactly founded - because that was the work of the swedish king. But since the dutch were experts on building cities on muddy grounds the city was built by the dutch and therefore the city plan reminds of a dutch one.

The fortress, Skansen Kronan, and also Skansen Lejonet were used mostly for protection against the danes, but also the norwegians. These two fortresses; Skansen Kronan and Skansen Lejonet, are mostly identical to eachother, only difference is the crown (Kronan) and the lion (Lejonet) on the roofs. Then ofcourse, theres another similar fortress not too long from Gothenburg in Kungälv which is also pretty identical, in the 15th century Bohus and Kungälv was norwegian territory and this fortress was built to mark out that this was swedish territory. And today it is just a 15 - 20 min-ish car drive from Gothenburg. :)

I think the Swedish trains get lots of use which also means that they need to get replaced regularly making most of the ones in use look pretty modern.

I know you live in Great Britain, so you probably also have a lot less daylight in Winter, but just keep in mind that it’s quite dark here at the end of the year. In December you have like 5-6 hours of daylight, so it might not be as fun to be out about for activities. Or, maybe, you find it exotic - I don’t know. Me, I’ll be indoors somewhere in a sofa, depressed because of lack of daylight. 😂

It depends on which train you take, we have one that takes 5 hours and one that takes 3 hours. There is quite a big difference in price. I wish you all the best with your journey here and I am available in Gothenburg if you want someone to show you around the city.

Most cities in Sweden are adapted for bikers, many commune to work/school that way (atleast in the warmer months) but of course the bigger cities have bigger and better bike lanes. The rest of this comment is gonna be a little long but I just wanted to share some experience I have regarding the subject. For 6 years I lived in Östersund, which is a city in the middle of Sweden but still is considered to be part of the north. I have a driver's license but no car so I very fast got a bike to commute to/from work and for using when going grocery shopping. I'm from the southern part of Sweden so I have biked a lot in my life but I never in my life considered putting on dubbed tires for the bike in the winter and in Östersund it snows for atleast 5 months. Realizing I can bike everyday, even in the winter, was one of the best thing I've done (of course there's gonna be bad days like the ones with a lot of slush or when the sluch freeze over night and the ice is an obstacle course). I've moved back to southern Sweden now and got a brand new city bike, Helsingborg is the city and I highly recommend coming here a couple of days on your first visit to Sweden, and I will use the bike all year and people will be horrified by the idea, but it doens't even properly snow here so why not!? 😆

I would recommend to take the MTRX train between Stockholm and Gothenburg, in my opinion its the easiest way to travel. It takes under 3;5h and costs from 185kr. When in Gothenburg I don’t recommend that big cinnamon bun in Haga, its usually pretty dry and a real turist trap. There are a lot of better more moist buns👌 I highly recommend to go to Gelaterian close to Grönsakstorget, they have the best ice cream, even won the Swedish championship in ice cream 👌👌

The tower in the video is a gunpowder tower and not part of a medival castle. It was placed outside the city wall to not accidently explode. That is also partly why the walls are so thick as they had to protect from explosions both from outside and within. It also served as a cannon tower and worked in adjunction with the cannons along the city wall. The Gotheburg area, especially the outlet of the river, has historically been one the most heavily fortified areas of Sweden. It is, and have always been, the most important Swedish port in the west that gives access to the north sea and beyond without having to pass the Danes co trolling the narrow Danish straight. Close to the south (just 15km) was the Danish border. Close to the north (about 20 km) was the Norwegian controlled area. In the middle was the river outlet with a narrow strech of land on both sides controlled by the Swedes. Just the inlet of the river before the city have had at least 6 castles/forts (not counting the modern military installations) - and that excludes the fortfication of the city it self. Just little bit to the north there is a medival castle controlling a fork in the river. West of that, along the coast, there is another fortification. All these fortifications have been fought over and changed hands numerous times through out history. This small streched of land have been soaked in blood.

Haga is not that old unless you count an old gun tower (Skansen Kronan) on a hill overseeing the neighborhood. Pretty much all of the buildings there are from the late 19th century and there is almost nothing left from earlier, and for very good reason. Well, sort of, since it includes fire and the shacks and barracks servicing Skansen Kronan burning down. In the late 1800's the county governor mandated that the ground floor of any building had to be made from brick, stone or concrete, in order to limit fires, and Haga was (re-)built according to those guidelines.

Most of the 19th century worker 'suburbs' were built with the first floor in stone, and the second and third in wood. Unfortunately many of those 'suburbs' with "landshövdingehus" were demolished in the 1960s and early 1970s (Landala, Olskroken).

As another said it's probably a cleaning solution stinking up the place, some of them can smell pretty horrendous. When I lived in Stockholm for three years I never saw or smelled any pee in the subway or on the train. We also value our public transport. Even the shittiest I've been on has been pretty ok. The train they were on looked brand spanking new, but even our older trains are relatively new and well put together and maintained.

Travelling from Stockholm to Gothenburg by train takes about 3h 30 min. so that is okey.

It's probably high speed trains between Stockholm and Gothenburg which should take like 3-4 hours. Different lines and train companies manage their own trains so the state of their vehicles varies a lot. I don't know about the pee smell at the Stockholm train station, it was a long time ago I lived in Stockholm. Back at that time it was mostly phone booths that had pee in them, in some smaller stations the underpasses to those train platforms were used as urinals too, but never did the actual platforms smell like that when I live in Stockholm. But maybe now that all phone booths are all gone maybe train platforms have started to replace them as public urinals...

Takes 4-5 hours by train between Sthlm and Göteborg by normal train and its pretty expensive about 65£ and if you go by x2000 fasttrain it will take about 3 hours but its like 105£

Of all nations in the world Sweden and Denmark are the two nation that have fought most wars against each other. Even when we joined together in an union it did not prevent us from fighting each other. We have a complex history in Scandinavia.

Fun fact, the thing (hole with a fence around it) shown at 1:30 is called "bögringen" (Faggot Ring) and the area benieth it is called "spottkoppen" (Spitting Cup). Rumour has it that Gay Men would stand around upstairs to hook up, and sometimes spit at the people downstairs. I kind of doubt that that was ever the case though. The brick/stone first floor or so, and the rest being wood, was a regulation from (I think) the 17th century, to try to minimize cities burning down. For food/fika, stay off the touristy areas, avoid places with huge Cinnamon Buns, avoid places that serves coffee in glasses, with loads of milk and sugar. It may be to your liking, but it's not real.

Sweden has more cities than Stockholm and Gothenburg. I live in Karlskrona, which is a small town in the south. It's a lovely city in the summer. It is built on islands just like Stockholm, but more beautiful 😃 We got very famous in 1981 when a Russian submarine got stuck just outside Karlskrona. I think the type was called Whiskey, so it was known as Whiskey on the rocks. 😊

Sweden is probably in the top 3 car-centric countries in the world.. Obviously id rate the US as no1 And id throw Germany and Sweden into no 2 and 3, not necessarily in this order. Germany have their autobahn. But Sweden LOVE american cars from the 40-70s, Caddilacs in particular. They have a crazy car scene over there. Can(could?) rip off the license plate of an old banger and throw in a purpose designed reflective plastic triangle in the rear window instead and drive around at 30 or 40km/h at the age of 16. Swedes LOVE cars.. And they NEED them in most parts of the country. They need some good shit too, for the winters and the hilly forresty areas

Stockholm is prettier. Gothenburg is infinitely more fun. Its not even a contest... Liseberg alone is lore fun the all of Stockholm combined.

I'm a swede, sure I do like our cinnamon buns, but they are very overrated, I can think of many other things to choose from instead.
