Avi left under good terms. His mother had cancer and they were touring. He was traveling back and forth to see her. It took a toll on him physically and emotionally. He left and started a solo career. There is a good video out there of him announcing his departure. If you listen to his solo work you'll see that he's exactly where he's supposed to be but I miss him too. That said, Matt is terrific.

@@DanDroidx , you really have to watch out for spurious gossip online about PTX. I mean, a lot of folks are convinced that Kirstin is still dating or maybe even married to the guy she split up with 5 years ago. The best thing to do is follow their Instagram accounts, all five members' individual accounts and the PTX Official account. The only recent PTX wedding was that of Matt Sallee and his lady Sarah, who were married on Jan. 2. Plenty of pictures were posted, and I imagine the same thing will happen if/when Kirstin and Ben Hausdorff tie the knot. *ETA* - another good resource is the PTX Weekly News right here on YT.

Avi left for many reasons. The intensity of touring was hard on him. His mother had been sick while they were on tour which made him realize how important it was to be with his family. He wanted to strike out on his own. It was not an easy decision. I have listened to the 200 + songs they have done and there are a few I'm not crazy about, but just a few. You are right. It's hard to find one that isn't good. They give 100% to their performances and are invested in the emotional impact of their performance. All that helps a lot. Thank you for your reaction, as always. Hope to see you soon in another PTX reaction.

Thanks for your reaction to this stunning work of art--a definite upgrade from the original. Avi left because the demands of international touring were overwhelming for him at that time. His mom was receiving treatment for cancer so he was also traveling back and forth to spend time with her and was burning out from not having the opportunity to have enough time spent with friends, family and just himself when needed. We all miss him but are glad to see him happy and doing his wonderful solo work now. Matt (newer Bass singer) has been a great addition to Pentatonix too. The trifecta of top acapella groups are Pentatonix, Home Free and Voice Play all with different styles and approaches to acapella music. Since you have seen Pentatonix and Home Free, you may want to check out 'Voice Play'. Voice Play is a group from Orlando Florida that has a musical theater type of style with costumes and character singing, great arrangements, lighting and production that they do all on their own in their own studio. You would enjoy some of their Disney covers of "Hoist The Colours", "Little Mermaid" and "We Don't Talk About Bruno" for starters in your reactions to Voice Play.

I love this song, for Kirstie's lead and the emotion that everyone gets into the song! This video was the first one I saw (I'm sure it's not the first time it happened, LOL) where Kevin was "celloboxing" - playing cello and beatboxing simultaneously. And he gets to sing a small solo at the end, which is pretty unusual for him. VoicePlay is another acapella group you may want to give a try, if you haven't already. They are 5 guys (although they've had a couple of personnel changes over the years), who tend to do much more theatrical performances, but the singing is still front and center. Their bass singer, Geoff (pronounced "jeff") Castellucci, has an amazingly deep voice, but also has quite a bit of range. He also does solo videos, which aren't acapella, but he usually records multiple images and takes of himself singing the harmonies, so he is someone else to check out. VoicePlay's most recent video is The Dragonborn Comes from the Skyrim video game, and it's pretty epic!

Avi just did a podcast type of interview, like three to five days ago. He doesn't list every reason but his preferred music is Americana/Folk. It has always been Americana/Folk (long before Pentatonix formed up in 2011). Pentatonix is a lot of things, Americana/Folk ain't it. It is Pop/Top 40 all the way and that is great. Avi also is very open with his struggles with depression and anxiety and you can imagine what it must be like trying to tour and churn out songs/arrangements for music that you perhaps don't feel in your soul while touring and singing those songs day after day. He admits to being a perfectionist, which adds its own level of complication to working with four other very talented folks. I think we were lucky to have him in Pentatonix for as long as he was after the end of "The Sing-Off." IMHO.

The constant touring was becoming hard on his mental health, which was made even harder when his mother got very sick with cancer. Avi's a bit of an outdoorsy type. Not the, "Imma gonna go shoot some deer!" kind of outdoorsy, but more of the kind that needs to go and chill in the woods for a while to refresh himself, and constantly being on tour was hindering that and it was wearing on him. It all worked out for the best, though. He gave the others plenty of time to find a replacement, and when they did, he went off and has done his own awesome solo work that gives him the ability to pick and choose when he takes a break. If you want to listen to his solo work, do a search on KZread for "Avi Kaplan" and "Change on the Rise".

Avi left, supposedly, on good terms due to family issues and the constant work load. Matt stepped into the group and has done a bang up job of it. They haven't made a bad one yet. Comments have been "they don't do covers they do upgrades". Their originals are awesome also. They all have a hand in song writing and arranging. 15 songs 😆 son you haven't even started. Kabir you've been listening to the best. I know Home Free is really good also but I don't think there is a genre that Pentatonix hasn't done. They pretty much put a cappella into the mainstream too. These five young people are insanely talented. There is another group I forget what they go by. I believe they do mostly Disney covers but I'm not positive about that🤷. Some fyi for you. Pentatonix went back on the fourth season, the one after they won, where they met with some of the contestants and gave them some pointers and Home Free was one of them. I would recommend going back to the beginning and watching the Sing Off season 3. Doesn't matter if you react to them or just watch them whenever you want. If you do, be sure to listen to all of the comments before they perform and the judges comments after. Remember that the five didn't even all meet until the day before they auditioned. That tells you how talented they were back then and they've only gotten better. There are 13 performances, I believe, with the last one being when they sing with Nick Layche(sp) the " host/announcer". He was in the group 98 degrees. Thanks for the reaction. Sorry for the book😅.

You know the Beatles got so tangled up with fan rumors that they literally lost sight for awhile of why they had actually split up. Don't continue this with Pentatonix. They sat there all together and Avi told why he was leaving. As for not remaining in close contact how many people do you stay in touch with from any given job after you leave it? 3:04 The stated reason Avi left was he couldn't keep up with the schedule. 5:34 They have made a few semi-dogs. You will run across one sometimes. All the a Capella groups seem to be different. They seem to stake out different Genres will little cross over. PTX does pop & Christmas which Home Free crosses into a little but mostly folk & country. Voctave is has a big sound stage sound & are quite amazing. Voice play does stuff you can't imagine the others doing. They all could of course sing any of the others. You could catch Kirstie from PTX when she sang with Voctave. That is pretty amazing. Disney Love Melody I think was the one. E.J. Cardona from Voctave sang with Voice play. Take 6 is heavy into jazz. Voca People are just . . . Weird. LOL!! Seriously they are good. I wish I could remember that group from Sweden. What style do you like? The collegiate singing groups are pretty popular in the US.

as a pentaholic i always believed that avi left as everyone said-travel, mother's cancer etc- but the were several comments i happened to read where someone had what sounded like a well researched different story. for some reason-which i find hard to believe- avi thought kristie was holding them back, and not good enough!! and demanded that they choose between him or her. we know how that turned out. if true. then avi sued pentatonix to forbid using any songs he was a writer on, and wanted some exhorbitant compensation. I am assumming the lawsuit if true has a paper trail. I do find it a little odd that ever since avi left there wasn't much interaction with him, reunion, fun videos etc. he was in the videos of kevins wedding, but if i remember right not with the trio. I hope this is all internet trolling chatter, but there was a ring of truth to their post. . in no way diminishes my respect and love for them and avi, but curiosity killed the cat, so to speak

The trouble is that if this is a story that you find hard to believe, then you give it air by repeating it. I don’t know what the truth is either but I do know that gossip, ie passing on stories that one does not know for sure to be true, is both dangerous and potentially defamatory. I am not getting at you at all but it’s just too easy to perpetuate gossip. Better to leave it that Avi left the group for the reasons he gave in the video announcing his departure, which all the other PTX members were party to. Every thing else is speculation. As for lawsuits, compensation etc, I refused to care what anyone other than the actual lawyers involved have to say - and if they speak out then they are in breach of all sorts of professional ethics!

I doubt this story, but it's true Kirstie was the weakest of the group early on. She's also had the most growth and is now a legit diva.

👋🌟👋🌟You want more AMAZING ACAPELLA?? Scott Hoying (tall blonde guy from PENTATONIX ) co-founded 2 AMAZING groups.. Citizen Queen ... ALL FEMALE ACAPELLA group with a beatboxer and a female bass. Fitst I Recommend "No Tears Left To Cry" (👉WATCH THE VIDEO TILL THE END) The other group is .... Acapop Kids! 100% kids 100% ACAPELLA!! They have beatboxers and bass singers. There are about 25 to 30 kids broken up into smaller groups gor each video. I first recommend Bohemian Rhapsody/Somebody To Love....PLEASE REACT!!!

Kabir, you have to react to a duet that better get duet of the year. The only two Americans that could do this is Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. But these two are freaking amazing, they blow the roof off the building. So much power in two amazing women. It's a cover of a Celine Dion song. They're, Katrina Velarde and Jessica Villarubin singing, I Serrender.if this doesn't blow your mind I'll never suggest another song. Don't be a day late and a dollar short. Thanks man

Dude hated touring. Of course if he'd stayed a few more years he'd have run into huge tour breaks, first from COVID, and now Kirstin is having a kid, and there's no way that doesn't turn into a three or four year tour break.

    1) I didn't know he left. 2) 1st listen of this song for me too. A bit disappointed at the cello. They're unique strength was in their acapella sound. The cello added nothing except distraction.

Avi left because he was emotionally, spiritually and physically spent. He was doing what he wanted to do, more than anything else in the world. His intent was to be with PTX as long as they remained a group. Him mother had, had cancer, then while PTX was on tour, she relapsed. The Kaplan family is strongly close. Avi even said "Family is life". He desperately wanted to be able to get away to be with his parents and especially his mom. PTX was winning Grammy's and traveling the world and there was little time for anything else. He finally broke down. He loved being with the group and he and Kevin were best of friends, but he could not continue. He went to visit his parents, hiked and camped with a friend for a couple of months, went to Israel to see his older brother, and hike The Galilee and then returned to his cabin in the forests of Tennessee. It has taken him awhile to get back to happy, but I think he is now. Unfortunately, PTX sued him after he left the group and it took 3 years of dealing with that and it being finalized before his healing could begin. Because of that, I only watch PTX videos when Avi is in them. I do not watch any of their videos since he left. Nothing against Matt, but they should have left Avi alone.

This is actually wrong. PTX didn't sue him, their label did. Music artists actually don't have as much legal power as you think they do. They're all under the control of their labels.

@ Pam S Carr: The legal issues are with SME record label and not a suit by Pentatonix. So sad that you would feel that way and can't appreciate the talent that Matt has and brings to the group.

@@ms_scribbles According to that what I read about it the story sounds a bit different. It’s gossip clear but none of us was there and can tell what really happens. Anyway that story sounds at least for me more closer to the possible truth as everything else. I don’t deny that all the mentioned reasons were also a big factor but there was also some problems in the group. The gossip tells as example the Avi had a crush to Kirstin. But she was not interested. He starts then to blame her for everything what went wrong on the performances and so on. It’s told the situation escalates and he put a kind of ultimatum and say her or he. They decide that Kirstin will stay also he left. After he left it’s told he blocked a lot of videos and songs for copyright reasons. It took a while to solve all the legal issues around this. Anyway it seems that as example Kirstin did not longer following him on social medias and vice versa. One sign for a not sooo harmonic split is also that Avi didn’t had any appearance right now in there music. At least it’s strange since he was an important part of the group and in case everything was fine then it should be not a problem. Now it seems a healing starts in the relation between them and Avi. As I said it’s gossip.

@@jensthiel3844 The trouble with gossip is that by repeating it, you give it air. The ‘Avi had a crush on Kirsten’ thing was over long before 2017, if it was anything other than the imagination of fans with too much time on their hands. Avi was dating someone from Sonos during the Sing Off and an earlyish video had someone asking if Avi was single and Kevin leaping in to say that he was definitely not. As Kevin and Avi were housemates, I tend to believe Kevin. (I also remember a fan theory that Mitch and Avi were an item, so believe at your peril!) I also understand that Kirsten and Avi stopped following each other in about 2014. (To repeat gossip, this is said to have been because Kirsten’s boyfriend at the time might have been jealous. But that has absolutely no foundation in any fact that I’m aware of!) As far as copyright and intellectual property rights are concerned, although I’m no lawyer, I feel sure that, depending on contracts, if Avi wrote, arranged or performed any of their tracks then he would be entitled to a percentage of any profit those tracks accrued. No doubt there was a lot of legal wrangling that went on to the benefit of no one but the lawyers involved in getting that sorted out. That Avi took no further part in their music is not surprising. He wanted to move on. To be forever ‘the bass from Pentatonix’ wasn’t going to help that. He did a live interview on 20 March 2022 that makes his views quite clear on his feelings and his current music is so far different from PTX that it’s hard to believe he was ever part of them..
