Bristol Zoo's baby gorilla is as cute as ever

Bristol Zoo’s baby Western lowland gorilla is now six weeks old and developing well. The baby girl has almost doubled her birth weight, now weighing 2.2kgs, has started teething and has even giggled for the first time. The infant was born after an emergency caesarean procedure - a rare occurrence in gorillas and only carried out a handful of times in the world. She is now being hand-reared round the clock by a small team of experienced gorilla keepers at Bristol Zoo, although she is not currently on show to the public. Curator of mammals, Lynsey Bugg, is one of the team looking after the baby. She said: “She is doing really well; she is getting noticeably stronger week by week, which is great. Her arm muscles are becoming more defined, her grip is stronger and she is increasingly alert and attentive. She might be small but she is already showing an assertive side to her personality and grunts and coughs at us if we don’t give her her milk quickly enough!”

The way he clings to the stuffed gorila is both sad and sweet at the same time ❤️
I was in texas and was at the zoo at the right time. When a baby gorilla was just born they were taking him to the nursery wrapped in a baby blanket. The man carrying the baby stopped so I could see him. Great day
The sparkle in her little eyes reminds me of how precious life is. Really.

Sans doute parce que nous ne sommes rien d'autre que la branche d'à côté. J'ai des chats et je me pose aussi la question : 2 yeux, deux narines, deux oreilles, un cœur, deux bras 2 jambes... Et l'on peut pousser le raisonnement à tout les mammifères et bien au-delà. Mais je m'égare c'est vrai qu'il ressemble beaucoup à un bébé humain en bien plus beau et lui, en plus, il restera innocent toute sa vie... Que je lui souhaite belle.

What a precious baby girl! I melted looking at her, cuteness overload. Excellent caring job - she will grow up so emotionally secure, loving, and sensitive. Please do not put music on wildlife videos - truly distracting and annoying. We want to hear the natural sounds of the baby and the carer. Real sounds. Music is not needed. Silence is golden.
I love when she just falls asleep. Beautiful baby.

She is wonderful!! Such a miracle baby. this is especially important due to the fact that this particular group of gorillas is dwindling.

few years back my uncle who choose the life as hermit and shifted in our nearest mountain, he saved one small monkey may be 2 months old , monkey was seperated from his clan and dogs and other monkey clan were trying to killed him. so after rescue my uncle did treatment on him. now he is best friend of my uncle and superb human friendly monkey whenever I go to visit uncle place he jump on my head and started checking pockets for his treat. 😍 I some time sleep on his lap and he playes with my hairs.

I was at a primate talk at Bristol zoo yesterday with my university and we was told about this beautiful girl, we saw her alongside the others and she has settled in beautifully and hasn’t had any psychological issues after being hand reared for 6 months she was introduced to an older female in the group who became her adoptive mother. She’s gorgeous now!

I can’t decide if you were joking or serious...I’ll explain it this way-I can walk in any barbershop 💈 with my grandson and ask for a ‘Don King’ look-because anyone in North America and South America-and most of the rest of the world-knows and loves Don King AND his wild hair!!! By the way, he is 89 years old this year. That’s what you need to know...🤪🤣😂
