This must be part 2, of the same 'Brabazon' documentary, I seen yesterday. It ended with taking a test, flight. Today's, was the 1st. passenger, flight ✈️.
Its downfall was the failure to perfect the Proteus turboprop engine. The plane which succeeded the Brabazon, the Britannia, likewise was delayed, and had a short service career due to the big jets taking over.
I saw that as a 13 year old sitting on the roof of an old barn on the edge of the airport.
Apparently they tried to raise funding for a faster version but no one was interested so both airframes were broken up and sold for scrap
Whittle had developed the jet but progress was slow due to redtape...May be if Britain had treated its heroes more respectfully, this plane with jet engines would've been the first jet airliner.
How many Brabazon made and how many years it fly?

Including the prototype it flew from Sept 1949 til 1953.
WRONG. The first flight was in 1949.

First *PASSENGER* flight. Not first test flight. They did specify quite audibly.
Too late, and way too expensive and inefficient.

Yep. One has to wonder what on Earth they were thinking. Hubris and wishful thinking, I suppose. . . Too bad they didn't learn their lesson before Concorde, when the whole episode repeated itself.
