Brining vs. Marinading What is the Difference? When to Brine vs. When to Marinade Meats.

Brining is about injecting moisture in your meat. In a meat brining method the meat is completely submerged in the brine. While the meat (pork chops, beef shank...) is soaking liquid is being injected into the product. This method is great for those pieces of meat that dry out very quickly like chicken breast, turkey leg...
Marinading is about injecting flavor. A Marinade is thicker and has rich flavor.

I’m assuming brining results in a much more subtle flavor. Is that correct?

Yes. More subtle flavor. Only caveat is not to over-brine vs a marinade where longer is better. 👍👍
