Lucas Paixão (Instagram: @Lucasmanhua) thinks that sex is a really open matter here in Taiwan. That’s why he feels so comfortable exploring bisexual identity in his work. He wants to bring the ‘B’ both inside or outside the LGBT community so more people can understand his perspective. How did a Brazilian comic book artist wind up in Taiwan? Completely by mistake!
Lucas fell in love with Japanese comics at an early age. An online search for ‘anime’ led him to the Taiwanese girl band S.H.E. That’s how he discovered Taiwanese pop culture and eventually visited Taiwan before enrolling in an MA at Taipei University of the arts. Now he creates animations for many local artists and creators including TaiwanPlus!
Lucas collaborated with us on his first ever promo ‘Soaring Into The Year Of The Dragon’. A piece where he drew a lot of really Taiwanese backgrounds and a cute protagonist featured on the TaiwanPlus KZread channel to celebrate Lunar New Year.
