The swedish climate doesn't help. Car private garages in Sweden are not common. Most cars sit outside all the time. A 10 year old Saab in Sweden usually has a lot more rust than a 25 year old Saab where I live (a very mild climate, ~ 14°C in january and ~ 22°C in august). Ask me how I know. The wear on the engine (cold starts!) and all body parts is also much bigger with high temperature fluctuations. My 20 year old Saab has zero rust.

I'm really happy seeing the Saab back. I just bought myself a 9-5 like month and a half ago, loving it. 02, black like yours, but not an aero. Still it was a dream accomplished 🤤

@@WatchJRGo thanks man! Ive been meaning to ask. I have a problem with the abs system probably a sensor going bad or the module. From time to time the whole dash lights up and the speedo dies. Then it returns back to life, then it can do it again. Is it really a sensor or module? How many sensor are actually there? 4 for the 4 wheels or 2 in front and 1 in the back? Thanks

@@rostislavbolgurov1781 Sounds more like a bad ground with the dash issue. Or a corroded connector. Best to get a wiring diagram and figure out what common powers & grounds they have.....

@@ckm-mkc it is possible, but last week I changed the wheels and after landing the car down, started it up and the lights were on, 500 meters of driving and they turned off again. I will have it read with tech 2 and see what it gon say..

Love Saubs! Pulled my 89’ 9000 out of the woods. Threw a battery/fresh gas in it, drove it for 2 years without issues.

I’ve been daily driving my 2002 Saab 9-5 Aero for two years now. Bought it for $1500 ! It’s the best cheap car ever. I’ve done subframe bushings, motor mounts, tires, ignition coil, and an alternator. The seats are still the most comfortable car seats I’ve ever experienced.

My son had a 2003 Saab 9-5 Aero wagon as a first car and it was amazing. Parts were crazy expensive but that car was a blast!

When you get around to replatcing the subframe bushings, highly recommend using a hole saw to drill out the rubber, then use the small $20 harbor freight air powered reciprocating saw with a 2” blade to cut the outer metal ring in half. It’s the perfect size saw to fit up in there. Then you can smush your new poly bushings in from the top.

This is the sweetest car ever and I’ve got some serious car envy…said nobody ever except this guy who daily drives his 2007 9-3 Aero 2.8l since 2015 and loves SAABs.

Definitely love the SAAB! Very sad that they are no longer making cars. No thanks to GM, the Borg of the automotive world.

Love the Saab! Had the same Aero for years. The glovebox was out probably for the crazy cabin filter back there.. Hardest one i have ever run across.

Plenty out there more difficult, the Ford Galaxy was a two man job for a cabin filter. It was half in the cabin, half in the engine bay scuttle panel. You had to push one side and pull from the other side! 🤔

I had a black 00 9-5 Aero. The engines were all b234r... the entire way up to 2009. And mine also had a faded hood! So funny. Loved that car. Lots and lots of maintenance $$$ but learned a TON about car maintenance through the 150,000 miles I put on it.

I still haven't had the pleasure of driving a SAAB. Glad to see it back on the Channel.

My dad's '99 9-3 turbo was an amazing car. With the manual transmission and that iconic gauge cluster, when the turbo kicked in it felt like you were flying a fighter jet.

Nothing more satisfying than knocking out a job you've been ignoring / avoiding for a period of time. Love the Saab stories. In today's crazy car pricing world, it's probably doubled in value just sitting for 2 yrs.

Anyone who owns or has owned a Saab, has a Saab story. I had a 9-5 AeroWagon that I both loved and hated. Was such a great car when it ran. I look forward to seeing the progress on this one! Such a cool car with oddball features that just make sense.

I picked a 2002 9-3 convertible a 6 months ago with 78k with a few issues, very cool cars. Mine needs a handful of parts and slowly getting them sorted out. My friends said it's a money pit, but it's my money pit that's actually increased in value! Eager to watch this series on your Saab, hopefully learning a few things along the way! Thanks JR!!!

Used to see Sabs driving around but I think they've been gone long enough you just don't see them much anymore. Neighbor in the 70s had one of the turtle looking sedans and I thought it was a funny looking car that seemed to dent easily. Of course you don't see a lot of cars people used to daily drive like my 69 Dart. Used to be somewhat common along with all the other 60s cars but too hard to find or get parts for, usually lousy mpg, and worth too much to just drive to work now. That looks like a good cool example of the best of the Sabs just before they gave up, hopefully parts are still easy to find.

Please going on the Saab, it is a great car.

9-5s are absolutely gorgeous cars. They drive like a dream, are super comfortable , and a great tuning platform. I've had mine tuned by a local place called NoobTune, and let me tell you, it really woke that car up! I thought the Aero model was quick before, now I'm pushing a little over 325 bhp, and wow! Totally different car!

I love Saab. Had a similar 9-5 from I think 1998. Now driving a 2003 9-3 Sport Sedan. Awesome cars.

I bet you end up painting it! Great to see it back on the channel.

Love the SAAB, I have an 05 - 9-2X. Mostly Subaru I think, but a great car. Over 200k and it's still going strong.

My favorite car I ever owned was a ‘99 Saab 9-5 turbo. It broke my heart and my wallet over and over again… but i couldn’t stop loving it!

I just got my 2002 9-5 aero station wagon a couple of weeks ago, it’s an amazing car! When you’re replacing the oil, please drop the pan, it’s a dirty job, but mine had a full finger-width of caked up oil on the bottom and the pickup line was also super caked up. The recommended oil for that engine is 0w-40, but everyone drives them with 5w-40, that’s why they cake up so bad

In Europe we pulled the pan and only ran Mobil 1 0W-40. So long as you don't do over 8k or a year or the same oil you're pretty much safe.

I have four Saabs. All over 200,000 miles and running strong

So good to see you putting some love into this one! So many of these go to die in New Hampshire trailer parks. If I wasn't planning on skiing this weekend, I'd offer to fly down and help you wrench on this.

I remember the Saab. I'm excited to see it get worked on. It is so different than a lot of cars.

2005 was the last year of the true Saab interiors, but the 2.3l Saab engine stayed in the facelifted 9-5 (kinda e60 bmw looking) until 2009. The Saab 2.3 is a great engine once the PCV is updated- the block can take 1000hp and the stock rotating assembly can take north of 600.

Shaking is common at idle, especially when in gear, though the engine mounts do go bad. Make sure to do all 4- will take you about an hour, pretty easy job.

DM me if you want a video of one of my 9-5's steering wheel shaking at idle in drive. I did all 4 engine mounts within the last 2 years on all of them and they still shake like crazy. 4cyl secondary imbalance is ugly, especially at the relatively large 2.3l and with the heavier components needed/saab used for a high pressure turbo engine.

Yay! A Saab 9-5 video! I literally subscribed to this channel just before you got this car. It's insane to think almost two years have past since then, and you have an amazing shop of your own now.

I have a 2011 9-5 and I love it. These had so many cool features though...rear heated seats! Heated and cooled front seats! A cooled glovebox! Back in the late 90s and early 2000s, way before these were normal features. Most cars still don't have rear heated seats.

I had that car, in the 1999 flavor. When it wasn’t in the shop getting a new ECM, it was fantastic. I think I remember it had an A/C duct to the glove box or center console and they touted it as a mini beverage refrigerator. Worked well as I recall.

Yep, glovebox had ducting to cars heater system so you could heat or cool the glovebox.

I really hope all of these automotive " content creators " don't continue to popularize saabs its been difficult running up on a saab and the seller is not a saab person but just a hustler who knows the passion some of us have for these cars and wants 3x what the value of the vehicle truly is

I'm excited for every new JR video. Can't imagine how you churn them out so quickly.

Always wanted a SAAB but held off since it looked like they were going away. Had a Volvo S80 for a while and even with under 100,000 miles on it, it was a maintenance nightmare -basically a part time Volvo mechanic and even then there was some unsolvable (even by shops) electrical gremlins always tripping a light... Without a lift it was impossible for me to keep up with all the issues and was happy to trade it in on anything else for a loss.

Totally stoked to see the rest of the repairs on the Saab 3 or 4 videos from now 😜😂👍

I had a black 2004 Saab 9-5 Aero that was quite similar to this one. It was a 5 speed manual though and it had the unique front and rear bumpers that only 04' and 05' 9-5 Aeros had. I absolutely loved that car. Wish I still had it.

Love Saabs. Had a 9-3 sedan and convertible. Great little cars that are a good and rare alternative to BMWs and are relatively trouble free when maintained. Much like Porsche - maintenance is the key to many happy miles!

interesting factoid: while the 9-3 line switched to GM ecotec motors in ‘03 (‘04 for verts), the 9-5’s continued to use the Saab b235 motor with minimal changes until 2009. Great vid :)

I believe that was due to 9-3 body change (and new engine mounts) in '03.

I'm happy to see you're back to working on the saab. I was wondering what was going on with it since I'd see it in the background but you hadn't made a video on it for forever. Its awesome to see a big KZreadr showing interest in a Saab 9-5. They tend to get overlooked by most which honestly might be a blessing since they're one of the few bargain enthusiast sort of cars left in this insane market. One thing I'd like to share with you is that 03 thankfully wasn't the last good year for the 9-5 before gm had more involvement. 04/05 are actually regarded as the best years since they came with the pcv #6 update that remedied the sludging issues these had and the aero got a very nice looking facelift in those years. 06 was when gm came in and changed a bunch and from 06-09 is known as the dame edna generation because of it's ugly front bumper with chrome around the headlights. It did still have the same 2.3t engine yours has but they did cheap out on some of the interior materials and such. They did bump up the hp across all trim models though to 260hp which was nice. 2010-2011 is when the 9-5 completely changed and where Saab was truly dead. It used a completely gm power train. I see you've done most your research though and are replacing almost all of the common components that fail with quality parts. Once your done this car will run for a long time without issue!

Now this is a car that I can somewhat relate working on haha! Studying to become a mechanic and the school has a 2003 Saab 9-5 2.0t that we sometimes work on

Look into the pcv update. Those 2.3 had "sludge" issues that would clog up the screen and cause low oil pressure. Also if I remember correctly you can snug back down the head bolts because a few have a tendency to back out a little causing a coolant leak.

This is a critical update. Most cars have it done already but if it has not been done yet then doing it now would be imperative... (Also not a super hard job to do)

I own a white 2003 SAAB 9-5 Linear (84,xxx original miles) and am working on restoring it back to its former glory and hopefully doing a sleeper build to it to make it into an Aero! I had a black 2003 Saab 95 v6 turbo, was a good car but alot of plastic parts that would break like hvac blend door actuator and window parts. Fixed everything drove for 2 years and sold it for what I bought it for, kinda wish I kept it since you don't see many on the road nowadays.

Drop the oil pan and clean out sludge. Replace the 3 orings I'm there also. Grind the oil filter bracket so you can fit a large oil filter

Makes me miss my 2006 9-3 Aero (manual)! I had it for over 3 years and just sold it earlier this summer. Some people defend Saabs as so reliable. They're not. But there is something that makes me love them unconditionally. I need another one! (But you know...I already have 3 wagons in my fleet and don't have space for another car lol).

Life saving advice: When you can't stay awake, the arm holding baby will have a hand near your midsection. PINCH yourself as hard as you can. Go for blood. It will keep you awake. ( Also a good way to make it to the next bathroom on a road trip )

Agree on dropping the oil pan and de-sludging the pan and oil pump pickup, especially if you are also doing the subframe bushings. On my ‘04, the rear subframe bushings went bad and caused a similar vibration which was worse when there was weight in the front seat.
