If I were you I’d get her some toys. I’d also suggest not using pine shavings because they’re just not good for bunnies, use paper bedding instead. Also if you want her to be better litter trained then put the hay in the litter box (they eat hay while they poop) and once she’s old enough get her spayed, that will also help with litter training. I’d also suggest that around 5 Months of age you should go down on the pellets and start introducing greens and new vegetables. I’d suggest checking out Lennon the bunny or 101 rabbits for more info on how to do better. For a first time owner of bunnies you are starting it off WAY better then most people.

Thanks for all that! So far she’s been doing great in her litter box no accidents anywhere. We give her greens twice a day and hand feed her. We couldn’t have asked for a better bunny she’s awesome!

OP, excellent post. Very true about pine shavings being bad for rabbits. They can develop respiratory issues from pine. And important to get her spayed so she doesn't suffer ovarian cancer, as most unspayed female bunnies will. Sooner the better after they reach 6 mths old.

their teeth grow continuously.so she needs some toys she can chew on. That’s how they keep their teeth worn down. Overgrown teeth can be a real problem that sometimes even requires surgery.

They should have told you to use alfalfa hay for her until she is full grown... you also use a different kind of pellets - usually 6 months for a normal rabbit. Alfalfa hay is much more rich which is why it is best for a growing bunny until full grown... then you switch them to Timothy or Orchard Grass hay. And yes shavings are not good for rabbits litter box... I use a liner on the bottom covered in a layer of pine hard pellets... then a paper based bedding on top of that. I then add a bit of bedding to cover up urine or poop balls a little each day and change everything out once a week. I clean the box with a vinegar and water solution and reapply the liner, pine pellets and then bedding. Oh and she is gonna need quite a lot of room to move around. Flemish giants need a lot of space. Best to free roam them once they are litter trained. Oh and that litter box is fine for her current size but she is gonna need a lot bigger litter box as she gets bigger.

Really a nice bun. If you haven't already get her a hidey house. Important they have something to hide under if they feel stressed. Cardboard box with an entry cut in works great. Also, make sure to get her spayed if you haven't already. So important for so many reason. A variety of toys really help enrichment on a daily basis. Amazing how intelligent they are and crave stimulation. She's so lucky to have the two of you.

She lived for 10 years and was a total love. She followed me around and slept near me. Rabbits are as amazing as dogs and cats in terms of personality and intelligence. I miss my baby so much! My daughter was given a Flemish giant. Her grandparents got it for her. Very sweet and her name is Emma. She is at the 6 month mark and I’ve noticed a change in her behavior. from all the videos I’ve watched and googling, she needs to be spayed. Prevention of health issues in the future and hormones etc. She started circling my legs and honking but lately its a bit more aggressively. I don’t want her to be like that with my daughter. I read it possibly means excitement, or sexual maturity kicking in, to territorial. Any suggestions are welcome from fellow Flemish owners!

I just want to help you and if you use pine or cedar wood bedding it is actually harmful to the animals because it has a fume that it releases and it can harm your animals so I just suggest using paper-based bedding or aspen bedding. No hate just helping out❤️ and make sure to give her veggies every day and sometimes fruits but be careful about what fruits and veggies to feed her as some of them can be harmful such as iceberg lettuce and more that o don’t have on the top of my head. Just wanted to help you out and let you know just in case you didn’t know

(Edit: haha my Flemish Giant rabbit is named Lucky.) A suggestion that i learned from experience is before my rabbit got spayed she would pee allover the place and pull her hair out to make nests, after she got spayed she used her litter box fine and didnt try and dig holes in the chairs anymore. Not being amped up on hormones is also supposed to be better for them as they have less anxiety. Also, you may need to brush her when she starts shedding as some rabbits with thick coats can get some issues with hairballs when they groom themselves. We are always having to groom my flemish as she seems to nearly always shedding some type of hair layer. When you can give her fresh herbs and dandelion leaves and english plantain leaves, the oval leaf weed plantain (plantago)not the banana relative. Dandelions and herbs are great for detoxifying and immune system. I give my rabbit a bit of spinach and she loves rocket or arugula, beet leaf and carrot top leaves they really like also. Some napa cabbage seems fine. I find that kale can bother my rabbits stomach though. I give my rabbit cilantro, parsley, mints, basil, some thyme and any other herbs i have. I collect fresh wild flower leaves and other weed leaves that i know that are safe for human food, so i know are safe for rabbit. She likes mulberry and maple and ash tree leaves. Just no wild cherry tree leaves as they can be toxic to rabbits. Avoid too much super sugary fruits and dried fruit,as the fructose is not really too good for them as from what ive read on different specialist websites for rabbits, they are susceptible to too much protein and to much fructose and glucose as they are kind of like diabetics in that regard. Too much protein is bad for their kidneys also. My one German Rheinlander rabbit i saved after someone dumped several off out in some peoples neighborhood and they were getting killed by predators as they were domesticated rabbit breeds, the one i was able to catch was the last survivor, anyway, she died from what i thought was too much dried fruit as i didnt know at the time they had problems in that regard, but i gave her hay and greens also, so idk exactly what she died from, she just got weak one day suddenly and couldnt walk and she died within hours. It was realy horrible having to watch her die and it was a day that the "exotic" care vet was closed but she deteriorated so fast i didnt realize what was going on as she laid around a lot anyway, and i was so busy, that by the morning i got time to figure out she wasnt walking or able to get up, it was too late to do anything as she would have been dead before i even got halfway across town. The best litter box stuff i have found is shredded paper. Just newspaper i shred in long strips with an older style shredder. The printing ink is soy based nowdays so its a safe choice. There are certain ads that my rabbit always pulls out of the paper stack as she likes the flavor of the paper or ink i guess. But she doesn't eat huge amounts at a time, just nibbles when shes lying around. It all helps with keeping her teeth worn down. With shredded paper they can nibble on it and ya can throw in some hay also. Its pretty absorbable, but ya have to do upkeep to turn the box around and throw in more paper as it gets soggy, because my rabbits would go pee and poop somewhere outside the box to tell me they werent happy with getting their feet damp. But, i tried some stuff that is a finely shredded and ground-up paper product that the petcare shop sells in different compacted bales, and is used for many types if animals cages like ferrets and guineapigs. i used for my chickens when i had to keep one in a cage when they were sick or hurt, and it was good for rabbits box,but it is expensive, oh and it is also messy as my rabbits tended to track it out across the floor more than the regular shredded paper as the ground paper is in such small fragments and is more dusty. Shredded pine or cedar are both toxic to rabbits kidneys from what ive studied on rabbit care websites and what some vets sites say. Although, you can get some native tree limbs and twigs like maple, elm, ash, oak that she can nibble on also, and that will help with teeth wear. My rabbit began chewing on furniture early on, and we had to figure out something to divert her attention, and that is why the tree limb pieces and cardboard, but that is also the other purpose of the hay, to help with wearing teeth down. I say that but my rabbit has eaten twenty to thirty square feet of linoleum flooring and hasnt shown any signs of illness, not that i encourage her, i have tried to get her to stop for years and always spray her with water for doing it, but she just likes chewing it up i guess. Find your rabbit some clean cardboard or even make a "playhouse" cardboard box for her, she can chew it up and hide inside it. I keep a cardboard tunnel in one area for my rabbit to play in, but she will chew on chunks of cardboard that i cut and just set out for her where she lies around in the living room. She will throw them around and move them around where she wants them.

hi hi, I know I'm kinda late for all of this but: you should put the hay in the litter box cause bunnies like munching on hay while in the litter box. Hopefully, the bunny is litter trained cause if not, you'll have to do that also. That carpet.. They are huge chewers, my buns chew carpets, cords, even wood floors for fun. the pine shavings are not good for their respiratory system, I like the 40 pound Pine Pellet Stall Bedding at Tractor Supply, it's less worst than the shavings. Or you can just use hay since they eat it anyway lol. also I get pee pads as litter box lining, which makes cleaning easier. make sure to tuck it in out of the bunny's sight so the bunny won't start chewing on the pad. They also eat greens, so 2 cups of greens every day in addition to the hay and pellets (when adult). Lastly, Bunny proof the room like crazy, I don't know how many chargers I went through since getting my buns. Great set up, love the room, and cute bunny!!
