Bring the Heat: George Kennard makes an incalmo glass vase live
Watch Master Glassmaker George Kennard create a decorative vase inspired by the flameworked glass of Kurt Wallstab. Using the incalmo technique, Kennard will combine various patterned and colored bubbles to create a piece drawing from the styling of Wallstab’s famous “Montage” works.
See the final piece starting at 1:57:57.
In our new live demo series, Bring the Heat, join us for a live stream of glass artists demonstrating their expertise and skillful execution while “in the zone.” During each demo, an artist will present a personal design they’ve worked to perfect, and they will be live on the mic to narrate as they work-a rarity for live artist demonstrations and a first at the Museum.

Always loved hand blown glass...and now realize and appreciate how much is involved in making a piece of Art.

You gentlemen are amazing. The precision that you two put the pieces together is incredible. You have a thumbs up from me.
I love this. When I was a child my parents took us to Corning in Rochester NY. I loved it as a 7 year old and still do. That was in the late 60’s early 70’s. How time flies. Nice work.
I love how the cane lines are floating on the surface and casting shadows onto the foundation. Lovely work.

This to me is true genius, the combination of art, science and magic to create something truly beautiful and unique
The little taps to break it off the pipes etc just amaze me. Its always super smoothly done!
******I've never ever imagined that those ending fractals are product of so much work - heating, spinning, cutting, connecting, heating, spinning, cutting, connecting, etc. Wow! That's such a preciously useful set of soul, knowledge and skills, needed to create that piece of art! Thanks for showing us this amazing process.
I love that you guys found a way to keep these demos going in a manner as safe as possible. The adjustment of the cameras and gear looks pretty well thought of too.

There’s a series on Netflix called Blown Away, all about glass blowing. It’s very interesting and you can see them create many beautiful objects.
As a boro lampworker I can really appreciate the size of this massive wigwag. Two very different yet similar worlds and experiences of glass work. Absolutely beautiful
I spent 20 years creating an interior home wall finish that like this process you could not tell what it looked like until 2 days after the process. It changed looks as it dried. I always wanted to Time Lapse the drying but I never found a camera 30 years ago that would allow me to do that. Love seeing things as they develop and especially those things that are out of your control. Thank you for sharing, this beautiful art work.

My favourite forms of art are turned wood, specifically burl pieces, and artisanal glass. I have zero knowledge of either area, but I know of all the forms I have seen around the world, these two speak to me so loudly I cannot ignore their siren call. Thanks for this lovely video!

Yes, watching these kinds of videos ( wood-turning and glass-blowing ) is very therapeutic to me. Just so beautiful, satisfying and soothing, though I know nothing about these arts. There's something about it.
I always loved watching the glass blowing. I collected Fenton glass back in the 70's. I watched many the experts make the glass alone.
Every time I watch one of these, that in-oven cam footage just blows me away. Whoever made that happen is a genius, and I'm drinking to his or her health.

Watched the whole process! Truly amazing work! I apprenticed with two different glass workers. Both have since passed away. I so wanted to win it and although I had no idea how I would get it back home to Scotland I still wanted it.
