The 2022 Tata Steel Masters is a 14-player single round-robin taking place from 15-30 January in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands. World Chess Champion Magnus Carlsen heads the field, which includes stars such as 2020 Champion Fabiano Caruana and Anish Giri.
The time control is 100 minutes for 40 moves followed by 50 minutes for 20 moves, then 15 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment per move from move 1. If there is a tie for first place the top two after tiebreaks then play a 2-game blitz (5+3) playoff and, if still tied, an Armageddon game. The monetary prizes will be shared evenly. I really think Dubov is not receiving enough praise for his performance despite refusing a repetition, as he really plays in the spirit of chess. If white is to have the theoretical advantage, Dubov is showing us exactly why that is the case; you can make chances and sacrifice pieces or exchanges for these masterful onslaught attacks, giving Vidit a spotline under which to shine with the black pieces.

Lol yes! Agreed! Most of the people like creative attacking players, who r excellent in taking initiative and can attack in combinatorial/sequential style and loves to make beautiful sacrifices. But the real problem is, most of the people don't understand that Playing in extremely super solid is also an incredible style! I mean, like you pointed out, surviving lethal attacks, manuvering the pieces to a create a position which is strategically more secure. Counter-attacking at the appropriate moment. And consolidation and creating impenetrable postion! This is also an art which no one remembers! I m glad that someone mentioned about Tigran V Petrosian, the most solidest defensive player in the history! And people must also try to acknowledge that skill!

If Dubov sees the forced draw and wants to avoid it, he still plays ...Qc8+ just to see if Vidit blunders with Kxe4. As any GM would say, repeat once just in case. Assuming Vidit correctly plays Kf6 Qh8+ Ke6, then you might see Dubov overpress with f3 as in the game. The fact thought that Dubov didn't go for one repeat of the position must mean he didn't see the mate in three.

Just to highlight, I don't think it was the case that Dubov was overambitious in the end and that he didn't want a draw, I think he didn't see that Qc8 leads to perpetual. So there was no move he could make otherwise so it was not overpushing.

That white rook captures on b7 is why I love dubovs playing. That's genius. To see all that is too notch. There's a reason Magnus had him on his team. He is the most creative and entertaining players to watch in my opinion. I love his style. He reminds me of a more conservative Tal.
